I pre ordered the game from Best Buy back in August with the promise of the Zeta Sky coating as well as the weapon skin and Banished emblem. Launch day arrives and I get my game code but no sign of the bonus…
At the time of writing this I have been in touch with Best Buy customer support and have spoke to multiple customer service reps and even a few local ones. What baffles me is that no one seems to know what i’m talking about when referring to the bonus code.
I have been told to reach out to Microsoft, check spam folders, and recently was even offered the " Halo Infinite Battle Rifle 75 Epic Weapon Coating" which is free to anyone that buys the game from them, and in my opinion is not an acceptable replacement for the 3 already promised cosmetics that scalpers are flipping for $200+ currently…
I’ve done my research here and on reddit to make sure I’m not the only one experiencing this. It appears that Walmart/Best Buy/Gamestop (all stores with the promised Zeta coating) has been receiving about 50/50 blend of people either getting the bonus day 1 or missing the code entirely.
Whether this is a Microsoft issue, distribution issue, or supply issue is beyond me. All I know is that if your incentive to preorder a game from a specific location is missing, then what was the point to begin with?
I hope the people experiencing this issue will have it resolved in one way or another, but for now I’m left with more questions than answers.
EDIT: I did eventually end up getting an email from Best Buy Customer Support with my code. If you pre-ordered from Best Buy and have not received your code, stay persistent and follow up with customer support. If you are in the Walmart/GameStop groups of people, I recommend the same. I still never got a clear reasoning for why we’re having to run through hoops in order to get the bonus, but stay on top of it if you never got yours.
I pre-ordered from Walmart and received no digital or physical code for the Zeta Sky pre-order bonuses. From what I have seen posted on Reddit and Waypoint, NOBODY who ordered from Walmart was able to get the Zeta Sky customization items. People that made it high up the phone-chain were promised a code within 48 hours, but nothing came. Seems like a big oversight on Walmart’s end. Frustrating for everyone who was excited about the pre-order bonuses - especially now that most MP spartan customization in Infinite is locked behind a paywall.
And I really don’t blame 343 for this mistake - pretty sure it’s all on Walmart. Unfortunately, 343 may be the only ones who can rectify Walmart’s blunder, but they aren’t exactly obligated to do that. So I’m not too sure what will happen either . Hopefully with all the talk about it they’ll eventually do something.
I’m really sorry to read this and I hope yourself and others that chose Walmart get some actual answers/reasoning sooner than later.
I also 100% agree that in no way do I believe this is 343i’s fault. Microsoft customer support have allegedly even told some that the codes are handled by the distributor so I believe something has been lost in translation when it comes to the Zeta codes as i’m finding more and more about the topic.
I think I would feel a lot better about the situation if I felt like the customer support reps even remotely could prove to me that they are aware of the preorder bonus to begin with. They just keep telling me that the code for the game was sent, I clarify that I indeed have the game but it’s missing the bonus that was listed on the website when I purchased, they put me on hold, and then tell me that they will resend the code FOR THE GAME. Then it just becomes a huge circle that ultimately leads to them telling me to check my email in the next 24 hours so they can get me off the phone line.
As much as I would love for 343 to make this right for myself and various others, like you said, it’s not their fault that these companies dropped the ball. If they did know of this being an issue on their end, I believe they would have cleared it up on December 8th.
I had this same issue with Best Buy. They said the code was successfully sent to the email address they had on file for me but it didn’t show up in my inbox or my spam folder. I have hotmail (Outlook) and they repeatedly sent the code with no luck. Then I asked them to send the code to a separate email I had that wasn’t hotmail and it worked first try.
Get ahold of their digital customer service department (online/app orders, etc) and ask them to try sending it to another email that’s different from your current email provider. I hope this helps.
Super helpful. I will try this approach next time I speak with them and see if the result is the same.
Even still, I find this very odd that it would have to be done this way. I get every other email from them just fine, why would the preorder code be the one exception?
According to the product page of the Amazon website, Pre-order bonus: Pre-order Halo Infinite to receive the Zeta Sky Armor Coating as well as the Chosen Emblem and Nameplate. This will be provided to you by the vendor, I would suggest contacting Microsoft and providing them with your order confirmation for further assistance in getting the pre-order bonus items. I have resent the order confirmation emails to you.
The codes will be provided by the developer for in pre-order in game content. They will be in the best position to assist regarding the in-game items.
I have been having the same issue with gamestop as well. I have used their customer support chat and talked to 3 different people. The most resent person that I have be in chat with has said “The codes were provided while the amount we had lasted. Have you checked your spam folder and trash?” and then I told him they were not there. then he later stated “Let me check if we still have some available. Thank you for your patience, our system is running a bit slow. I am very sorry. We are out of codes.” I then said “How did you run out of codes and sell them?” and he responded with “They are offered as supply lasts. Not everybody will receive them.”
Seems like the codes at least exist for Amazon, BestBuy, and Gamestop, but so far I have yet to see any evidence that Walmart has them at all. If anyone has successfully gotten their codes from Walmart, lots of us would love to know!
Whilst I’ve since changed career I’ve spent years in video game retail management and I’ve never come across such widespread issues with pre-order content.
The retailers really don’t seem to be handling it well but I do wonder how well coordinated this campaign has been with Microsoft.
I would like to just update everyone here that is experiencing this through Best Buy:
This afternoon I finally received my code via email. It was a normal email and wasn’t marked spam or anything.
The last personal I talked to yesterday was able to confirm that the code was on my account, just not showing on my end (this is the first time a customer service rep has remotely acknowledged the bonus to begin with).
I wasn’t able to get any reasoning behind why but apparently with a little luck and about 7 total calls to customer service someone was able to send it. So they are real and can be requested if you are owed one!!!
Hope this is somewhat helpful to everyone that is running into this with multiple distributors.
Love how 343 shafted Steam and Microsoft Store users. We pre ordered and didn’t get crap. Didn’t even know about the bonuses from retailers until it was too late. They should have given them to everyone who pre ordered. Love the game, but screw who ever decided to make that decision.
Same thing here, I pre-ordered the steelbook from Walmart. The item listing says it should come with Zeta Sky for armor and pistol, along with an emblem and nameplate. Got my game, no code anywhere in sight. Walmart support said they couldn’t do anything and told me to contact the manufacturer. I tried Halo Waypoint support, and just got an automated message saying they can’t help with purchase issues so I have no idea what to do. I purposely pre-ordered the game to get those bonus items and just never got them with no way to figure it out. I even tried using Twitter to hope I could reach Uny or Postums but they didn’t respond to me so I don’t know if I just have to accept that I can’t get the items, which really sucks. Idk how you can order something that promises a code for items and the code just doesn’t exist.
