My views on 343i and the current state of Halo

Considering that Halo 5 is just the second game made wholly by 343i, I view them as a company that’s still going through the learning process of figuring out how to make the perfect game for a franchise in which they’ve inherited. It’s obvious that they have been experimenting with major changes. Some people like change, some people don’t. Some people also like change that isn’t too alien to what they know and love, and that’s where I fit in. I like the fact that 343i doesn’t want to stick with the exact same thing and sell it as another game (I’m looking at you, CoD) but I think they’re implanting a little too much change in the Halo franchise. While I do enjoy Halo 5, it feels like it shouldn’t bear the name “Halo” because of a few simple gameplay element changes that shouldn’t be in a Halo game. Aiming down sights for non-precision weapons is the biggest negative change of them all in my opinion because it helps make guns like the Assault Rifle and SMG easier to use at medium range when those guns were only close range weapons in the previous games. However, there are also changes that I love because they aren’t gameplay elements in every other FPS out there that Halo refused to have in previous games. The most fun of these positive changes are the Spartan Abilities. I love ground-pounding an unsuspecting opponent and having my -Yoink- saved by the thruster pack. If 343i puts in new gameplay elements that aren’t in every other FPS out there, then I will embrace these changes. All these changes are an example of the experiments 343i has been doing to figure out how to make the perfect Halo game. A new company that has inherited a major franchise like Halo usually has to have an idea of what the fans want, and the best way of doing that is to experiment with new gameplay elements. With 343i having as clear of an answer of what Halo fans want and don’t want now that they’ve made two Halo games, I expect them to improve Halo 5 greatly within the coming updates. I consider the next Halo game, weather it’s Halo 6 or a spinoff, to be 343i’s “make or break” game, and I expect it to be an outstanding game based of what 343i has learned.

I don’t get the smart-link/ADS negativity, I only use it at range on precision weapons which is basically what we did on old halos anyway, it doesn’t offer a tighter bullet spread or change of movement speed, but I think it’s main purpose was to introduce the ability to hover in the air which is a great bad very usefull new mechanic.

It’s because the gun now blocks your view to some extent. Some of us like not having our view blocked for something that’s there for purely decorative reasons.
