Thus concludes the last Infinite flight before launch. My verdict: What’s here is great. They nailed the artstyle. The pacing of the matches and designs of the maps are on point. The possibilities of the sandbox are mind-blowing. There is so much potential… BUT from my experience, there is still a lot that needs to be worked on in these last 2 months. I feel like I can’t fully judge because the Xbox One version is legitimate garbage, but I’ll get to that. Let’s pretend everything was equal footing. Here’s what I think needs improvement:
- Hit detection was inconsistent, especially with weapons like the Commando & Sidekick
- Reduce bloom for said 2 weapons
- Grappling vehicles was cool but glitchy. When I grapplejacked a vehicle getting destroyed, it teleported me to a random position on the map
- Melees didn’t work half the time (probably BECAUSE of my hardware limitations, but once again, we’ll get to that)
- All vehicles except the Warthog barely showed any signs of damage, so I couldn’t plan my tactics accordingly and easily got wrecked
- Aiming. Needs. Work. BAD. All platforms have reported that aiming feels off. For controller, I believe more aim assist needs to be added
Okay… now, let’s talk about the Xbox One version.
My general opinion, either dedicate a team to fix this version before launch or cancel it. These disadvantages were fine for the first flight since it was just bots, but the fact that the framerate was still trash in this one is inexcusable. All the cards were stacked against me. Every other platform is getting 60-120 fps and we’re here struggling to stay alive with a dipping 30. Frames kept dropping when shooting AND getting shot at. There was no humanly possible way for me to retaliate. I don’t know why this was allowed. It’s severely unfair and concerning. This game comes out in 2 months and it feels like they’re putting an entire section of the audience on the sidelines. I couldn’t fully enjoy what I was playing because of these limitations, and I still haven’t truly grasped what Infinite is supposed to play like because of it. Does it look pretty on One? Yes, but how it performs this close to launch is deeply concerning and simply shouldn’t be. My Series X arrives next month, but most of my friends will be playing THIS version at launch, and I want us ALL to have a great time. Please don’t skimp out on this. What’s here is so good, but these frustrating limitations are setting it back in my eyes. There is still a lot of work to do. Please make the most of these final 2 months, 343. You can make this game great! I believe it!
