For starters, I’ve not played Halo for the longest time - played some of Halo 2 and 3 on a friend’s Xbox, and a little Reach on PC.
That being said, I’ve greatly enjoyed Halo Infinite so far. It feels good. I enjoy the sliding mechanic - though others may not feel this way, since it’s not in the older games (don’t know about 5). Sprinting feels nice, and walking is fast enough to not be overlooked.
The weapons are great and the sound design is amazing. Grenades are excellent tools for flushing out enemies, but they’re not too overpowered. My biggest weapon-based complaint is about the UNSC shotgun (can’t remember the name right now, sorry!) which deals very little damage even at close range.
The maps are small enough to encourage fairly constant battle, but they’re not restrictive, nor do they allow for easy camping.
The only major bug I’ve noticed thus far besides occasional latency issues is that sometimes, when sprinting and attempting to switch weapons with mouse wheel, the switching animation will play but won’t actually switch weapons. This can cost you valuable time in the heat of battle, and potentially be the deciding factor in winning a fight.
Graphics wise, it looks like a remaster of Reach or Halo 3, as opposed to (from what I’ve seen with Youtubers playing it) Halo 5’s cleanliness and simplicity. Environments are worn and dirty, and they look very realistic.
Overall, I feel 343 Industries has done an excellent job with Halo Infinite’s multiplayer thus far; if the campaign is held to a similar standard, then it will be worth the $60 USD price of admission.
Although, perhaps CTF game modes should not have vehicle spawns? It’s way too easy to just drive around the enemy base and run people over and (with the Ghost, anyway) shoot them while taking minimal damage. . . .
