Monolith:
-
Weapons - The beginning rush for rockets is fantastic, it almost reminds me of the opening rush for rockets on the Pit. The beam rifles however, I have to disagree on. 2 of them on such a small map is slightly too much for my taste, but i’ve been able to turn a blind eye to it. DMR still seems superior on this map, but BR or DMR will work when everyone is blindly rushing you with an AR to get the Spray and Pray challenge. I felt like a frisky little tiger stalking its prey…anyways.
-
Gameplay - The gameplay on Monolith seemed very familiar, though I can’t quite put my finger on what map it reminds me of. The small, wall hugging walkways from the red and blue bases to open and closed lifts are great. Lifting back and forth from side to side while shooting and calling out is good for map awareness.
-
Overall - This is a great competitive map that I’m hoping will be showing up in Throwdown very soon with some ever so fine tweaks(Beam Rifles). This map gets a 5/5 from me. Being an extremely competitive player, I see allot of potential with this map.
Skyline:
-
Weapons - Two Sticky Dets and a shotgun, along with all the boltshots makes this map a little crazy. IMO, One sticky top mid and shotgun down bottom would have been plenty. The main problem I have with this map is the amount of boltshotting that happens. My first game on this map, I quickly realized that Its kill or be killed with the boltshot. After about 5 deaths in a row resulting from it, I made sure they got their fair share. Even after the TU, I can hardly notice a difference with the boltshot’s range. I was still being killed from a good length away. Shotgun is slightly OP on this map, but I suppose thats not a bad thing, but couple that with sword and your looking more skimpy than a french -YOINK!-.
-
Gameplay - This is where the map shines. The amount of tight quarter grenade angles and sight lines is simply ridiculous. So much fast paced action, explosions, menuvering, and multikill medals, its almost too much to handle. CTF is a fantastic gametype for this map but I also think slayer would play quite nicely. This is my favorite map of the three.
-
Overall - Best map of the three if you strip away the amount of power weapons on this small map. Though its my favorite, I will give it a 4/5. This should also be thrown into throwdown…
Landfall:
-
Weapons - Weapons on this map are perfect, the opening rush for rockets is great again, as in monolith. Shotgun can easily be rendered useless on this map as well as the SAW. Sniper and rockets is what this map is all about, and thats why I love it. Primarily a DMR map, but I did extremely well every game with just the BR.
-
Gameplay - This map plays very well. Theres way too many indoor areas that could have been removed to slim this map down a bit, considering not one battle of mine or my teammates has ever taken place in there. The garage should have been kept, along with blue room, but thats all. The outside of the map is great, long range battles mixed with short, sniping is damn near perfect on this map. For how big this map really is, they do a great job of making it feel small.
-
Overall - This ties second place with Monolith, I can’t simply choose between these two frisky dingo’s. This map gets a 5/5.
Those are my thoughts on these great maps. If the game launched with these, I would have been extremely happy from the start.
14/15
