From my experience in reach, Hologram wasn’t a commonly used armour ability. It also, when used, didn’t have as significant an impact as other armour abilities.
I was curious if anyone knew if there had been any changes to hologram? I saw it briefly in some of the MLG footage, but I couldn’t tell if it was more effective in anyway than reach.
Reach’s Hologram seemed to shout “I am a hologram!” and it was painfully obvious in most situations that it was indeed not the target to be shot at. I have seen it used as a melee magnet (I doubt that was its intended purpose) but other than that it seemed largely useless.
Since I don’t know of any improvements (if there are some please let me know), my suggestion was that a hologram, while running in the sent direction, copies the hologram-sender’s direction that he faces. IE, if Player A sends Holo A facing north, it stays facing north, but then when Player A turns west, Holo A turns west, still running north. This would also apply to vertical looking: Looking upward would cause the Holo to copy.
This would be more useful IMHO, as I could see players sending a hologram while waiting behind a corner, only to pop out, start aiming at someone, and the holo would look at least partially like it is aiming at something (the closer the Holo to you, the more like he’s aiming at your target). I still think there needs to be modifications like a slightly more convincing looking model (less see-through), and reticle-reddening properties.
Did you guys use the hologram? Do you know if 343 has done anything with the Hologram? Do you feel that a straightrunning hologram is good enough as it is?
I always thought of the hologram as a very tactical type of armor ability, if used correctly it really mess with people, but if used poorly it won’t do much at all.
I personally would like it if the hologram copyed what direction you went in instead of just going straight all the time.
ProVis users can see it, it appears red on the radar, and it produces hitmarkers when shot at. So one could say it is slightly more effective than it was in Reach.
I would still like to see a red name above it, though.

I didn’t they would actually buff it in any way, good stuff to hear.
as for you seeing a red name above the hologram, well its not meant to be too effective now.
As long as they fix the issue were sometimes the hologram would be a yellow, red or grey dot randomly when it should have been a red dot coming from the enemy but it was yellow or grey, it is perfect.
I think they’re using the Hologram to combat Promethean Vision, which I still think needs a time period reduction so people cant use it as long, or maybe a longer cooldown. I really like the direction the AAs are going in for Halo.

I think I remember hearing that the color of the hologram was based on whether or not you were host.

Is this issue from reach or H4MLG? I can only remember in reach the holo ever being white. Am I crazy? I’ve looked up some reach videos but it only ever seems white.
The hologram can be very useful if used properly, but in most cases that is not the case. From time to time I will run straight out from behind cover and not be shot because people think I am a holo. Works great… sometimes. Other times not so much.

In Reach, it was always a problem, the Hologram’s colour on the radar would always be completely random.

Hehehe, I’ve tried this many a time. It hasn’t worked very well. If I see a straight running spartan, I have gotten into the habit of putting one shot in to test. It has helped me counter-fool many opponents.

Huh. Wierd I haven’t noticed. Ima check this out today. Completely random? Thanks.
Yeah, Hologram in Reach almost never worked against other players. I like how the reticle now turns red when aiming at a Hologram. It’ll make it more useful.

I think the Hologram will be more useful in Halo 4, improved from Reach. It tricks PV users, and I believe it is red on the radar (I think it’ll be added if not).
It seems like 343i is making Armor Abilities really work like they’re supposed to.
It just is not convincing enough to actually trick anyone for more than a split second. While that split second may have its uses, it’s not nearly as useful as any of the other armor abilities.
In Halo 4 it will have a little more usage due to Promethean Vision but even then it won’t really fool anyone.
The hologram needs to be more realistic and act more like a player.
