So Infinite has finally shown gameplay. I’m going to explain what I’ve seen, and give some thoughts about it. So I saw that Halo Reach’s assault rifle returned. Sadly no 60 round magazine for it. I saw a grapple mechanic. That looked interesting. Sprinting returns yet again as a mechanic, which is odd. Why not have increased movement speed instead? Equipment from Halo 3 returns. The Magnum has been replaced by a standard pistol, unless the Magnum is still in. Brutes make a return. New weapons are shown. There’s regenerating health again which disappoints me. Now here’s something that put me off when I watched the video, and that is the campaign being open world. Not every game in this day and age has to be open world. Just have big open levels. So what I’ve seen seems promising, but some things need to change such as the open world aspect and regenerating health. Big levels and health packs along with the regenerating shield, then the game would be better. I must say the grapple hook is an interesting mechanic, but I feel that they put that in because of Doom Eternal. Alright, what do you think of the gameplay that’s shown?
HERE is a link to my thoughts and feedback. Clearly we have a difference of opinion on the inclusion of the sprint mechanic and I kind of prefer the regenerative health system; plus, it would feel like a step backwards lore wise considering Chief’s Armor is likely Gen 3.
To my knowledge the only games that didn’t have regenerating health were Reach and CE.
I like the fact that Halo 5 had a health bar. Gameplay feels more consistent and predictable with it included. Hopefully 343 will add it back in for Infinite.

It’s there. Just small to see this time around.
One thing I have to say before the rest of my opinion.
Please by the love of god let this be some rushed, not finished gameplay and cutscenes. (on to how I feel about the gameplay)
To me it really feels like 343 is really trying to play it safe and please everyone to a certain degree. Which puts them in a tough spot.
Honestly I don’t understand why 343 wants to copy certain things and inject it into Halo in order to play safe.
Now I love open world, customization, skill trees, and so on. But I can’t help but feel as if 343 is either ignoring us older fans or have some form of disconnect. At this point, they are considering what we want and tries to blend it with whatever they have predetermined. But to me I feel neglected for we never get a classic experience.
Sprint:
Its a heavy topic within the community and has been debated since Halo Reach. I like many others believe that sprint isn’t needed in Halo. I feel like Firefight and Campaign can have it but multiplayer shouldn’t. Maps are made bigger and weapon sandbox has to be changed for sprint and other movement mechanics. So in my opinion 343 needs to make a spin-off game with all the crazy mechanics they want to copy and experiment with while leaving the main titles( at least one) as a more classic experience.
Art style:
chief’s armor is looking better than it has in quite sometime. I get strong Halo Legends vibes whenever I see it.
Personally I would like to see what a blend of Halo 3 and Reach style art would look like, however I seriously doubt 343 would do that.
I don’t want a bunch of shiny/ plastic kinda look we got in Halo 5. But with it being 343 we’ll have to see.
The Blend of 343 and Bungie is nice but I would like a game with Bungie style since 343 has shoehorned an art style not many of us are too fond of.
Weapons/ Vehicles:
Once again I’m hoping that the stiffness of the aircraft is just the fact that this isn’t a finished product. So im not going to make a fuss about that.
Now I have no problem with new weapons, as long as we still have our old ones. This started with Reach with the removal of certain items within the sandbox and 343 has continued to follow. Weapons that was in Halo 3 need to be in Infinite. Its possible to add them all from 3 on up. Halo 5 with all its variants of weapons have proven that.
I hate the Warthog sound from the Demo please use the correct sound, make it sound meaner! If you listen to the warthog sounds from CE-Reach it gets meaner and more refined. Hopefully we have Falcon Hornet, and other vehicles throughout the Halo games. The shotgun we saw I hope 343 isn’t redesigning classic weapons again.
Story:
Halo 5 was a disappointment in many ways so I’m not going to beat a dead horse.
The Banished is what I expected, especially after playing Halo wars 2.
Idk if they would make a long-term enemy that could expand multiple games.
Brutes aren’t the smartest but they are crazy strong. A faction led by brutes wouldn’t have long-term presence.
Unless you break the character of what’s been established for their species and create a smart and cunning Brute. Which just raises my brow every time
We could dabble with the Precursors. That would make a good Trilogy and expose the Forerunners to the rest of the Galaxy
Final thoughts.
I don’t want to judge too much because what was shown, just didn’t look complete.
I will say that based on what I did see, Sprint will be in Halo again so once more we weren’t heard.
I like seeing the mix of styles. Seeing Elites more slender compared to the bulky mess Halo 4-5 was puts a smile on my face.
Classic grunt armor, alongside the return of brutes is an excellent thing. I just want a complete halo game this time around.

Ok I see it now. It gets lost in the shield bar when you are not sustaining damage.
Every time I kept hearing rumors about it being open-world, I always thought to myself, “no, there’s no way they’re gonna do that. It’s just gonna have open-ended level design, like the crysis games.” However, from what they showed in the demo, it’s looking like an exploration FPS with RPG mechanics, which I’m nervous about. I think something like this should have been tested in a spinoff rather than pulling a Sonic and changing the foundation of the whole series because 343 did a bad and think it’s because people are tired of the same old Halo when that wasn’t the problem.
Sprint is something that I’m on the fence about, it’s necessary for big game Infinite is being teased to be. However, that’s only because the game was designed with a sprint mechanic in mind and could have been just as easily designed without one. I mean, sprint has its use in Halo but with how people have reacted to it ever since Reach, it’s surprising it’s still here.
The grappling hook. Yes, I think they were inspired by Doom Eternal too and this is something I’m also on the fence about. It looks like it could be really fun to use to explore the ring and use against enemies, but there are rumors saying it’s going to be in multiplayer and I can already hear the backlash.
Artistically, everything looks beautiful but I got a lot of nitpicks.
Don’t know why the Chief’s armor is taking notes from The Package and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, honestly I think the shoulders clash with the design with the rest of the armor.
Forerunner architecture is looking like a mix of 343’s and Bungie’s, yet it still looks alien to me from the original trilogy (which may be the point).
Some of the new weapons they showed off just didn’t look Halo. The Commando and Ravager honestly look like generic sci-fi guns.
I agree with a lot of people and still don’t like how the brutes look so human (this has actually been a problem since Reach).
I know the Phantoms are based on designs from HW2 but I still don’t get why they look so blocky.
However, other enemies like the Elites and Jackals seemed to have finally gotten past that awkward phase of their life.
Except for the grunts, some of those guys are still rocking 343 original armor.
I sure as hell don’t think the looks like plastic or looks any worse than Halo 3.
But above all else, thank god the Warthog doesn’t have roll cage handles all over the thing anymore. I always hated that look.
