Ranked isn’t my thing, but I hope ranked players are happy with this.
Personally I think ranked changes things that make it Halo, like the motion tracker and having to scavenge weapons. Otherwise it’s more like a regular shooter.
I miss when this was called hardcore and ranked was literally regular gameplay but you knew your team and enemies would try to win and not take it casually.
This is really a great example of why I don’t like BR starts. 90% of the time he’s just using the BR. There’s really no point in picking anything else up besides rockets and sniper maybe.
Edit:
I miss when back in the day, say Halo 3, there were 3 playlist essentially. You has Social, Ranked and MLG. Ranked was just social settings but taken seriously, so pure Halo. Whereas MLG they changed setting to fit a more “hardcore” audience and they were very similar to what Infinite has for Ranked. Sometimes I do just wanna chill and play Halo, so I’ll load up Social, but sometimes I wanna take it a bit more seriously and want a true Halo experience so I’d load up Ranked. MLG I never touched as I hated the settings.

That’s pretty much every Halo game ever though.
Having players spawn with a different weapon wouldn’t really work though. You need a high utility spawn weapon to keep the games competitive.
I would have liked to see a more casual version though, like Ranked with social settings. At least one playlist to allow more casual players an open invitation to play it. I feel like if it feels too hardcore then it might put off a bunch of players. Hope many people play it and love it.
Does make you think what ranked playlists they could have at this point, I still imagine there will be a more hardcore HCS variant to this.
I’m honestly feeling pretty down after watching that Ranked Halo Infinite video. I feel like a man without a playlist to play in Halo Infinite. Social playlists have forced crossplay with PC/mouse and keyboard people who have a distinct advantage over controller players like me, and now the only playlists that don’t have forced crossplay, ranked, have no motion tracker, which is terrible for me as I felt the 18m motion tracker in the flight was way too small, having no motion tracker at all is even worse. It also reads like Slayer, Strongholds, CTF, and Oddball are all lumped together in a single ranked playlist, which would suck since I’ve always been mediocre-bad at Halo objective modes and prefer to play pure team slayer, free for all slayer, or SWAT.
Why can’t we have the following ranked playlists:
- Team MLG (with the settings from the video, BR starts, no motion tracker, no grenade hit markers) - Team Slayer (like the team slayer playlists in most earlier Halo games, 50/50 chance of getting BR or AR spawns, motion tracker on, grenade hit markers on) - Team Objective (CTF, Oddball, Strongholds, etc.) - Team SWAT (no radar, BR starts, 1 BR headshot to kill, bodyshots do no damage) - Free For All - Team Doubles (2 teams of 2 people, AR and BR spawns, motion tracker and grenade hitmarkers on)
I feel like this is there for the competitive level 50’s and not for the lower levels that want to improve. Removing radar is just ridiculous.

Funny. Imagine Halo being a FPS, weird right?

I see you’ve never played ranked.

Bold - I couldn’t agree more. I think that is the way to go by far as there are a lot of people that like playing ranked but maybe don’t want the hardcore HCS settings.
To be honest I like all their HCS settings except for I mixed on BR starts and I’m mixed on no radar. I definitely want friendly fire on, weapons static, I want player collision… which I hope they announce.
I suspect within 6 months they will do something like social, ranked and HCS playlists As I can’t see the ranked playlists doing that well if they’re all HCS settings and I agree with many people that have said things like if they are they see it being not as inviting for people that want to play ranked but maybe owners good but want to get better.
Time will tell
