After months of sitting here on the forums hearing our share of good and bad news I’ve finally got my hands on Halo 5: Guardians. Now I am a long time Halo fan but I didn’t overhype myself to give this game a fair review. I am not going to be that guy that tries to keep all Halo’s as Halo 2 reskins. The game needs to evolve but I do agree some evolutions are not for the better.
Campaign (Spoilers):
I found the campaign to be underwhelming. It was nothing like what we saw in the advertisements. Especially “The master chief is dead” ad because in the end locke was able to bring chief home in one piece which makes no sense. If you announce someone is dead when you know they aren’t you are probably planning to kill them. This is just one of the ads with screw ups but lets move on from that.
The beginning of the campaign was disappointing because there is NO introduction to the new characters. They did almost nothing to develop these characters. I still know next to nothing on who Vale and Tanaka are. Heck, even Locke is a little questionable. They did the same for blue team so if you are new to halo good luck on figuring out who they are. At least there is a lot of lore you can find on them. Honestly those are my only complaints. Anyways, the campaign did get A HELL OF A LOT better as the game progressed.
Multiplayer:
My only complaint is lack of customization and the pre-game lobby. Pre-Game lobby you cant see teammates, ranks, names, mic users, or the mute button. They stripped so much just to ensure the game is constantly at 60 fps. But overall the multiplayer is pretty good. Arena reminds me of Halo 3 arena and warzone is a great way to bring in casuals without -Yoink!- on the competitive group. Overall I enjoy the game.
