My thoughts about the Boltshot

Boltshot, a weapon I have in 3 of my loadouts.
I don’t like to use that word at all. It makes me feel like I’m one of all those people who blame all the time about the game, but today it has been too much. Now I say this weapon is OVERPOWERED. With it you can easily kill people, even with shotguns. That weapon makes me choose AAP in stead of any kind of shotgun. Why? Because it has too much 1-shot death range. It’s too easy to get a killing spree with this weapon (even easier with dexterity). I’ve been thinking on how to “improve” this weapon to make Halo 4 a better experience.
1- The first option is to make the 1-shot kill range as long as the “melee range” and the “unshielding” range as far as the sword range. This way the spirit of this weapon would still intact (a 1-shot kill weapon).
2- Second, make the recooling time a 50-75% longer and give only 1 clip at starting (2 with ammunition).
3- Last, make it a full-clip charged shot, just to get the same effect as option 2.
Anyway, I think option 1 is by far THE option to make all 3 secondary weapons equal.

It should take 15 shots to kill (same amount as pellets one charged shot shots). 8 to take the shields an 9 if the last shot is a head shot. Add this to the Option 1 and everything would be fine.

I haven’t spoken about how many shots to kill should it have because I barely never use it this way… SRY

No problem.
People thinks about the boltshot as a pocket shotgun. They always forget the fact it is headshot capable. Pretty much like the H2 magnum. Weak but fast.

I like the idea of taking a full BoltShot clip to kill a player. Otherwise, I think the time it takes to wind the weapon up, coupled with how loud it gets, makes for an adequate warning that an enemy player is about to use one.

That said, I also pack a boltshot in 3 of my loadouts (sans BTB, because my plasma pistol gets thirsty for vehicle blood).

That’s a good idea too. My plasma pistol likes vehicles too, but today it surprised me by killing not one, but two buddies! My first two kills with the PP!

I don’t think anything needs to happen. I already maxed out the Boltshot, so I rarely use it anymore and it seems as though many other players have done the same thing.

Well I see much people with it… almost everybody!

Irrelevant.

More opinions?

I think it is just a bad weapon design. Having a shotgun on spawn isn’t exactly balanced, especially when Camo, Ammo and so on is thrown in the mix. The TU nerfed the Boltshot, but I’d prefer it never to have existed.

It amazes me how no one suggests a reduction in damage as the distance increases between the target and the user. Has no one noticed that it no longer kills at ridiculous ranges BUT STILL REDUCES YOUR SHIELDS TO ALMOST NOTHING?

Bottom line: It should only kill when someone is right in your face.

^That^
Although i don’t use the Boltshot as much, but indeed it has a bad weapon design. Its seems players who use the Boltshot get kills by just charging up the weapon and killing another player as if he/she was killed by a shotgun. I barely see player shoot the Boltshot like the Magnum.

Of course, if it were a weapon you could pick up on the map, I’d be easier on it.

That would definitely be better.

It’s simply a smaller sized shotgun you spawn with. Quite balanced. Almost as balanced as players spawning with three plasma grenades.

Use the magnum.

If its overcharged shot worked like the Mauler from Halo 3 I’d have zero problem with it.

Bingo!

Double Bingo! When i first saw the way the Boltshot works, first thing that popped in my head was, Halo 3 Brute Mauler.
