We’ve seen/heard of three sandbox items so far that have the new electricity damage type, but how do they function?
The Disruptor’s name implies that they have some additional utility that inhibits players beyond mere damage, and people have claimed that the Shock Rifle in books has an EMP effect on vehicles, so here are my ideas:
-
They cause disruption/interference to player HUD including the radar
-
In keeping with the shock grenade in the campaign gameplay trailer, as well as the stun mechanic of the plasma rifle in CE, they inhibit or slow player movement for a brief period of time
-
They do a form of continual damage i.e when you hit someone, that damage is sustained over a period of time rather than all at once. The side effect of this kind of damage ensures that effected players have to wait longer before their shields begin to recharge
-
They briefly disable the ability to use equipment
-
Some combination of the previous four points
I’d also speculate that the Shock Rifle to distinguish it from the Disruptor has more of an ability to chain shots i.e if you manage to hit an enemy surrounded by their teammates, then that shot will chain from one spartan to another, increasing its effectiveness.
What do you think?
The shock rifle speculation you had is honestly really cool, I would love to see that.
343 have hinted at a damage type having a stun effect similar to the Halo CE Plasma Rifle, I suspect it will be the electric damage type. I’m hoping if you shoot someone with the shock rifle the electricity arcs off and can damage nearby players.

It would definately set it apart from other weapons in the game
The more unique weapons the better. Nobody wants to have 3 guns that have the exact same purpose.

Exactly. This is a problem the series has faced for far too long

Weird thing is the AR is the iconic weapon of Halo and no one wants anything to do with it.

The answer to the AR’s problems in the sandbox is to give it headshot capability imo, with very limited accuracy, granted. Rewarding higher accuracy with higher damage output would make AR starts more viable since AR players would have greater capacity to fend of precision weapon users.
