Throughout the Halo series (purely coincidence or by design), there has been a pattern of main characters who start showing weakness before they eventually perish. They begin showing signs of vulnerability and need to be helped a lot.
Perhaps this is done as a ploy by Bungie & 343i to make the character’s death a bit easier on the viewer- maybe so they’re not as shocked at the characters death. I will give some examples:
(SPOILERS… if you’ve never played a Halo game**)**
Halo 1
Captain Keyes was kidnapped by the Covenant; he was terrible during his escape on Truth and Reconciliation (could NOT use a needler at all); he then later stupidly opens a locked door to look for a weapons cache, only to be swarmed and eventually killed by the Flood. I’m sure some players thought “well, he deserves to die.”
Halo 3
Johnson - if you remember, he was weaker during the game. He was caught by the covies in the first level (and you need to rescue him); he is also unable to penetrate the defensive barrier in the level ‘The Covenant’- he was overrun by Brutes, we have to help him out. Finally, he is killed by the Monitor and dies on the Halo ring.
Halo 4
Cortana is rampaging and loses her mind throughout the game. And she (supposedly) dies in the end, too.
So, anyway. I’ll get to my point. Which character leading up to Halo 5: Guardians has been seen in a different light?
117! Think about it, in the trailer he is isolated and alone in the desert, and forced to wear a cloak to disguise himself. In the leaked photo of (presumably) the live action trailer, he is lying beside the monument in a weakened position. And his helmet has been cracked now a few times- by the Didact in the comics and in the desert trailer.
This isn’t a whole lot of evidence or proof, but it could lean towards Master Chief corking it at the end of Halo 5.
Thoughts?
