My Take On Challenge Based XP

I’ll start off with this…I enjoy this game a lot. It has me very excited to play and level up the battlepass and unlock all the cool options for customizations. I enjoy the weapons, the sandbox, and the overall look and feel of the game. But boy…the challenge focused XP system is a huge blemish on the multiplayer front.

I enjoy the challenges. They are fun, and competitive, and make for a good goal for me to get better at certain aspects (like to actually git good with the Commando). The problem I am having is that I have no desire to try and win games after a certain point. I can have the best game of my life, but if I don’t complete any challenges (like say, if I run out of weekly challenges), my effort is only worth 50xp at this point. with the system needing 1,000xp to rank up, that’s 20 games without the help of challenges. For an average player, I think that is a tall order especially for those who have lives outside of games. It should not take hours to go through 1 rank up. I think it ultimately hurts the chances of people coming back to play it if they cant feel a sense of progression.

I think a fair solution to this would be to award a bonus of 50xp for a win. That way It can feel like your performance towards a win means something, but also not feel like you fly through the ranks in 30 mins. the other thing I would try to do on the challenges themselves is to incorporate more of the easily-completed weapon-specific challenges (ones that you can finish almost second-nature just by playing: i.e., 10 sidekick kills, 5 sniper kills, 5 sticky kills, etc.) and then incorporate more challenges that focus on performance like the “get killing sprees” or “get 5 [insert gametype here] wins.” I feel a lot of the challenges available force players out of their playstyles which makes the game a lot less fun.

Anyway, I know this is a lot to read. Let me know your opinions as well.

It’s more of a fix than a solution

challenge-based XP is just so fundamentally flawed on it’s own, we need performance-based XP & challenges should exist as the secondary path

people should be rewarded for their time, not for spending multiple games trying to land an annoyingly specific kill for a challenge only to be drip-fed barely any reasonable XP for the effort it took.

Oh, I 100% agree. I guess I dont personally mind the challenges being a significant part of the rank-up in the BP. But…when its the ONLY thing and you are not rewarded for playing the game objectives or just straight-up outperforming the opposition, it gets very stale and easily makes me feel defeated when I cant even get passed 1 level in a night’s worth of playing.

My issue with the challenge based xp system is once it’s done you really have nothing to do
I got off work and jumped on the day of reset, played for 7hrs and had all my weeklies done besides the 5 sprees in fiesta. Took till day 3 to complete that cause of work scheduling and I choked a lot when I was close to completing it lol

Then with this event I’m stuck at level 7 which getting to 30 I dont see how that’s possible, they show one in January one in February but the math makes it out to lv 21, the way they made it sound was your completion counts towards both, but they didn’t make it clear that ONLY event themed challenges counted towards the event
I have a strategy for January that I’m going to test but it will cost money lol

But winning a match should get you 150xp and losing should stay at 50xp, currently everyone would rather focus on challenges and not the win but you tell me if you throw in another 100xp for the win people wouldn’t try a little harder to win

One thing for me is the achievements, if I’m after an achievement or challenge I personally don’t care about the win, I’m close to having all the multiplayer achievements but I basically cost the match trying to hijack the hornet or wasp or whatever they call it this time around lol
Now all I need is that shock rifle arc kill, play some ranked matches, elimination revives when that drops, and complete the battle pass and all multiplayer achievements are done

Yeah I think that is the main thing for me. I don’t feel obligated to win matches because it doesn’t directly affect my progress. Sure, I play for fun as I don’t really dabble in competitive modes (aside from maybe SWAT), but I would still like to see some sort of performance based incentive so it feels good to actually win. Be it an extra 100xp gain for a win, maybe give specific medals xp values (like more special ones such as sprees and multi-kills)…I don’t know. somethings got to change lol
