He’s a brand new player, just learning to play last night and admittedly sucks at the game. He managed to get a level 8 in one night and this morning his account is banned?!
Its temporary. There is a daily limit to XP gained, reaching this causes a temp ban from earning more. Playing the game and doing nothing (ie “leaching”) is frowned upon and will result in a temp XP ban.
the xp cap is 200,00 there is no way that he got 200,00 and is only a lvl 8 he definatly got banned but it was not the xp cap
While he often stands around looking for other players, he’s not a “run and gunner” so I suppose that could be thought of as leaching, but I assure you, it’s only because he’s trying to learn the freakin’ game.
This is pathetic if a player can get banned that easily as a new player and it will certainly play a role in future 343 games I purchase.
Matchmaking is not where you should be “learning the ropes”, as it were. Your son obviously doesnt yet understand the game fully. The expectation is that new players advance in the campaign and learn the controls, equipment and build a playstyle of their own. Then go in to matchmaking.
If your son has been temp banned for standing around in a match, its justified. Its not only him thats playing, there are other players in the room. When one players inaction leads to other players frustrations its justified to remove the inactive player and remove any incentive to stand around doing nothing. And if you or any player is consistanly going 1-25 of something equally as bad, its unfair on all the other players who dont go so far negative and they should be removed and temp banned.
So that leaves him to “learn the ropes” locally against what? There aren’t bots on the game. He can still play online, he just doesn’t earn XP, so ‘fair to other players’ still doesn’t play a role in this ban.
War Games is actually described as ‘where spartans learn the ropes’ , thats the point
lucky for you, there’s no way to contact 343 to have your problem solved!
Good luck.
send your kid into spartan ops legendary solo thats how i taught my friends to play…
. . . I doubt that it was an xp ban that got your son. It’s takes a lot more than that to hit the cap and from what I know you can still play if you hit the cap (just can’t earn EXP). Something else is the reason why your son got banned.
Was your son relatively inactive in the game? If he isn’t really moving or doing much shooting, they might have banned his account for that reason. If this is the case, I can definitely understand your frustration, but it’s something that has to be done. In an EXP based ranking system, people try to rank up quick, fast, and with the least effort and starting matching and walking away is the best method (if people don’t get banned for it). People who do this cripple their teams. Now, your son obviously didn’t mean to do this (IF this is the reason), but 343 thought so and to play it safe they banned your son.
To better understand why your son might have been banned, we need more information like what gametypes you were playing and what your son was doing in these matches. It will help us understand why your son might have been banned, and give help to avoid it in the future
(If you posted some of the stuff I said while I was typing then I’m sorry)

Maybe because he got no kills in like 5 consecutive matches?
solarsabre, you are correct in the way he was playing. He was simply trying to learn orientation and how to play the game, so that meant a little standing around or looking around the map.
If 343 allowed local multiplayer with system bots (similar to the way Call of Duty works) then I would certainly have him on that instead of public matches…

well, that answered that question pretty well.
My advice to the OP, take your son into the campaign and spartan ops. He’ll get familiar with the controls and such so that when you got to matchmaking, your son will be able to at least compete. Spartan Ops would be the best, and is the closest thing to bots that this game has to offer. I agree though, a bot gametype might be a good choice for future games.

Yeah that will do it.

Maybe he should play call of duty because there are a lot of children playing that game. Seriously a lot of children.
This came to my mind immediatel after reading the title:
even if op is legit, that site is a good read for few laughs lol
How old is your son? In general halos not an easy game for people to play.
Your son got 16 kills and 132 deaths today. How is that even possible?
http://www.halotracker.com/H4/fiveflat5
Tracking: Sat, Jan 26 2013. 16 Kills, 2 Assists, 132 Deaths.
16 kills to 132 deaths?! For the love of GOD man, pull your boy out of the meat grinder!! Put him safely in campaign or spartan ops, give him a CHANCE to defend himself. Oh the humanity! Is he new to all FPS’ or just run around with his eyes closed?! He must hate the game now!!
Try Spartan Ops on easy. If your son can survive that, put him through normal, then a gametype like Flood or Grifball, then finally competitive gametypes like Dominion or CTF, or less competitive gametypes like slayer.
Also how old is your son?
