Well let me start off by saying that this is my thoughts and naturally you would have different thoughts about Master Cheifs lastest adventure, thats cool but if you have a point you need to back it up then I can understand your point and respect it btw this part 1 so look for part 2 in the future
Story:
Master Cheif and Cortana:
Now I wasn’t impressed by Halo 4’s story but what I did like was Master Cheif and Cortana’s side of things, I don’t understand why people always say that Master Cheif is inhuman and a boring gerneic character he has emotions and thoughts he has a personaillty he’s man of action not words, from the moment he hestitates when he has to rip out Keyes nerual implant to his absoulete trust in Cortana when she leaves her message and tells the UNSC to go to the Ark he is human just more controlled and honourable has Master Cheif ever been tempted to lie or be greedy? no never he is basically the best of mankind, I liked Cortanas rampancy as it put a strain on thier friendship ( not relationship you fanfiction writters) and it shows even when Cortana fails him, he still remains calm and figures out a plan but what I didn’t like was Cortana’s death it wasn’t done very well and I didn’t know she died until after credits because she says her pieces on the Didact’s ship yet she is right in front of him so how could you say she’s dead from that? also how does she manage to sheild Cheif from an Nuke? apparently the shield was made from the bridge but I doubt that it could sheild him from a Nuke and aslo I saw thier relationship as a friendship so when Cortana goes up to Cheif and touches Cheifs chest saying “John” and going on about how she always wanted to touch him made me raise my brows and roll my eyes a bit also her death is also way too early in the new trilogly yes killing off a main character at the start of the trilogly isn’t a bad idea but to kill of Cortana who is he’s guide and also a huge character in her own right at the start of the trilogly is questionable at least plus we have so many boring new characters like Palmer and Lasky that without Cortana these characters would be even harder to bear with, my last point is that there is a huge lack of respect for the Cheif seriously Del Rio does not even listen or consider Cheif’s advice and even says that because he’s been in Cryo for a couple of years that he’s battle and tatical skills are in decline seriously Master Cheif is an exellent solider with a record of him calling the shots resulting in victory, when he gave the Coveant back thier bomb or used gernades to blow up the Auttums engines that’s he’s decisons not anyone else’s and even marines just go “Hey Cheif” While Bungie did this because they are masters of humor (go and change the oddball count in halo 1 and see how many ball jokes there are) this is during Halo 1, 2 and 3 and they also had lines where they are in awe of seeing Cheif and have multiple lines of them showing it and in Halo 4 he’s been assumed dead for 8 years and plus all of acheivments he’s done ( Blowing up a Halo, Defeating the Flood, destroying 5 scarabs by himself) that the marines should be even more mind blown by the fact there are seeing the Cheif himself yet it’s just “Hey Cheif” if you meet a war hero would you say that? also 343 in there vidocs kept making these points of deep themes and promising to explore the Cheif but they don’t they just make him say more lines which does not make a character more intresting he just talks more, a prime example of this is a theme of Master Cheif acting like a machine (read above for reasons why he’s not) and they don’t pull it off good they literally have characters say it to Cheif, thats not how you present a theme.
Foreunners:
Oh god the Foreunners in case you didn’t know I think Greg Bear’s prequel books as utter garabge allow me to explain I am not a sheep I don’t think every single Halo novel that comes it is a tour de force of great writting and Greg Bear’s books are no exception so let’s look at Bungies view of the Foreunners, from what we can garther from the games and Halo 3 terminals is that they were a honourable race who belive in the mantle a law that requires Foreunners to protect and guide all life in the universe the Forerunners even disbanded all of thier weapons to uphold thier beleif and supporter of this beleif is the Didact the supreme commander of the Foreunner milltary and a Foreunner of great power, his wife the Librian while beleives in the mantle is not devout as he is, the Foreunners encounter a parasite know as the Flood and due to thier disbandment of arms they are helpless and they quickly make weapons but instead of raging war they decide on the action of trying to qurratine it until they relaise that they have fight the parasite but by that time it was too late, system after system fell with search and rescue missons abandoned the Foreunners draw a methaphorocail line that planets within that line get protected, planets outside the line get abandoned to the Flood, things gets desparate for the Foreunners as they relaise they may not win this war so they plan to make humans thier heirs and successors as they beleive them to be the most capable while they also build a weapon called Halo that will wipe out all sentient life which will make the flood starve, The Librian agrees with this plan and begins preserving life samples so life can resume after Halo is fired as she goes to earth to make her misson easier, The Didact does not agree with the idea of Halo as he beleives it’s agansite everything the Mantle stands for but neverless helps as he hopes they will never have to use it, unfortantely the Flood corupt an Foreunner A.I know as Medicant Bias that due to rampancy bretarys the Foreunners and launches a devestating attack killing nearly all the Forerunners, with the Librian strandered on Earth surronded by humans the species she respects she orders the Didact to fire Halo which will kill her and all life in the gaxalxy, the Didact fires all the Halo rings killing everything including his wife, he is the last foreunner and he feels guilty and ashamed as he has failed the Mantle and to protect his wife, now time for Greg Bear’s view, Humans are a the same techlonogly level as the Foreunners (errr how?) this ruins the idea of humans trying to reclaim and acheive something great as they already were at the Foreunners level so now were basically redoing -Yoink- again? this ruins the entire idea and mystrery of being reclaimers okay so Humans find the Flood first and well decide to flee and eventually find Foreunners and instead of asking for help or warning them they destroy thier planets so the flood won’t spread… WTF? thats making things worse seriously maybe you actually stood a chance of if you allied with them so anyway the Foreunners somehow do not know about the Flood get angry with humans and degrade them to cavemen but still decide lets make them our heirs of super weapons anyway the humans made a cure for the Flood (How?) but the Foreunners despite being at the same level as them can’t oh yeah theres also 2 Didacts now who basically act and think the same… no it’s not fanfiction it’s canon according to 343 and now there trying to tie this into Halo 3’s terminals? yeah right so I’ll guess I’ll get back this since I’m running out of words to write, please look out for part 2 and post your thoughts below
