I have been a fan of halo since it’s inception. I have been in literally thousands and thousands of games with players from all around the globe for many years. Since Halo 5 came out on XBOX One, there seems to be little to no conversation between players on the same team. Am I missing something? No, I do not miss the “trash talk” between rival teams in the lobby but why isn’t there any more talk between players on the same team? I actually had a guy on last night who asked for a “mic check”. When I responded, he said, “thank God someone has a mic”. What’s going on? I have heard that not all of the XBOX One consoles come with a mic. Can that be the issue? I don’t think so. Last night I tried to get help from my teammates in a Warzone match. I called for help in one of the garages. I kept on asking and asking for help until I was killed and I had to re-spawn at another location. Needless to say we lost the match. When the game was just about to finish, I heard two or three guys lambasting the rest of the team for doing so horribly. Why wouldn’t they talk during the match or at least respond when I asked for help even if it was to say “I’m busy right now”? Why has Halo 5 become so anti-social?
For me personally, I’m usually playing Halo with at least one friend and we’re in a party, I’m assuming alot of people do this.
And if I’m going in solo, I really don’t want to talk to anyone because it’s generally angry teenagers or someone’s entire family through the kinect, of which I want no part of either.
I personally am not a big people person at all when it comes to talking to people. Typing however dosen’t bother me at all.
ive been playing since halo 3 and noticed every game has less and less people using mics
i just assume its because all my teammates are too dumb to figure out how to plug in the headset. their performance usually holds up to that statement too

I agree, communication sucks in this game. Even people in my Spartan Company seem to not talk much and I know they have mics.

I remember the days gone by when you would play Halo 3 and all heck broke loose in the pre-game, post-game lobby. Then during the game play there was so much chatter and coordination, it made for some of the most competitive game play in Halo history. Now, the game has better physics and Spartan abilities and the weapons are leaps and bounds better than the older Halo games you would figure it would make for better coordination between teammates. Nope. All I hear during the game is the actual battle noise (which sounds amazing in 7.1 surround) and nothing but crickets from the teammate channel. I don’t know what happened. Maybe this game requires more concentration? Maybe, but with this many players per team and the absolute chaos during battle, it makes me want to get the teammates all “on one page” even more so. The “dead silence” from team members doesn’t help me.

Or you can handle yourself already.

“Thank God someone has a mic!”
Just out of curiosity, was this during a game of Warzone/ Assault on Escape from A.R.C./ Dispatch?
Its mainly becauze of Party Chat
Game chat doesn’t work in pregame lobbies anymore (this annoys me tremendously), which forces everyone to rely on party chat instead of game chat. I would consider this the main reason that you are less likely to have teammates with mics in game chat.
I think the MAIN reason, was the Kinect. Once all that ambient garbage went over the air, it started a new culture of party chat or no mic at all. Just how I feel at least.

i dont think i have run into this second thing ever. angry teens, sure. but is there a such thing as a not-angry teen?

you dont even have to talk TO people. literally all you have to do is say where the enemies on your screen are. thats not even communicating with a person its technically just thinking out loud. but it makes you 300% more useful as a teammate.
Since I can’t talk to my friends in the lobby between games we will always be in party chat.
If 343 can ever be bothered to fix this then I will use in-game chat.
Normally I’d make a joke, but instead I’ll answer honestly.
I don’t tend to use a mic because, they tend to be fragile and I break them a lot. I don’t have the money to waste on them, nor do I want to spend the kind of money they want for them in the first place. When they get cheaper as they were for the 360 I might pick one up again.
Most of the chat is pretty useless. It’s kids cussing, complaining about the game and their teammates, and blaming everybody else for their failures. I ran with a team in the h3 days and we were rarely topical but never did that crap. I still have friends from those days. Only one match I’ve been in during the last month has had useful game chat.
I’m old. I don’t really want to talk to kids in the first place. I’m at the point in my life where smack talking with a ten year old doesn’t amuse me and I don’t feel I’m going to have a decent conversation with anyone in game.
I never hear a peep unless I am in a party. I stopped using my headset. Doesn’t the roster check show which players have a mic? There is a speaker with line through it for everyone except me.
Usually I only use a headset when I’m playing with friends. Even then I’m in a party. Honestly have no interest in interacting with random people. Halo is most fun for me when I’m playing with friends. I did the mic thing back in halo 3 and reach and had Plenty of experience with trolls, children, and people blasting terrible music.
I’m good without it personally lol.
I play after my wife and son have gone to bed. I tend to get loud when playing games and don’t wish to wake either of them. When I am on with my friends, we’re generally talking about whatever random stuff comes up. We all live at least 200 kms apart now and use Halo as a chance to catch up. Rather than annoy everyone else with our jabbering about our kids, work, wives, sports and whatnot, we just party up. If we have a good extended run and get caught up, we sometimes venture into game chat.

“I’m old”. LOL, I know the feeling. I am probably the oldest person on XBOX, lol. I got into it with a youngster a couple of weeks ago and my wife overheard the whole thing. She was actually so inflamed after hearing what I was saying that she wanted to get on the headset to “scold” the young man. Boy, have things changed, LOL.
please don’t bump
Well OP…i try to be social but I get tired of hearing chip eating, domestic violence, incoherent Spanish babbling, crappy rap music and people playing in an SPCA back room…so I’d much rather talk to some friends playing other games than listen to what I normally encounter on most random Halo matches and just run the gambit of being uncoordinated

When the game starts pull up the scoreboard and press B to switch to game chat. Sucks going back to party after, but you just have to double toggle the switch to game/party chat option in the party.
