That’s the common belief but it’s not been confirmed.
Ranks reset everytime you turn off your xbox / quit halo

Yeah no, I played halo 2 on original xbox which is what the ranking system is supposed to mirror. Your level getting cut in half from quitting never happened. And it doesn’t even make sense given that you need multiple wins for one rank up.

In all seriousness ranks are F’ed right now. EVERYBODY will get reset when the implement ranks for all playlists and implement stronger team balancing and fix the number of players per playlist. Right now ranks are eye candy and nothing more, they don’t mean jack nor will they soon enough.
yes this happend to be as well. I was level 12, went down to level 6. I raged quit because it was an uneven team 4 on 2, and my teammate quit. it was on sanctuary and the other team had both snipes and rockets… i tried camping with the shotgun but it was no use… cmon u would quit too, don’t lie. I haven’t quit since because now I know even more that this game is -Yoinked!-!
Don’t worry that happened to me a couple of times. Besides, people are cheating for their ranks anyways. It makes it pointless to even try. If a team is losing all one of the players has to do is go to their Xbox One settings and go offline. Apparently it lags everyone out of the game including the person that did it and he gets to rank up because the dumb game thinks everyone quit but you. Hahha most ridiculous thing but it happened to me Wednesday night. I even recorded it while it was happening. Me and my buddy got lucky and we’re playing against a 343 employee too!! We were stomping them and then BAM!! Black screen with the red and blue teams, then x’s by everyone’s name except mine. Got returned to main menu and what do you know, I ranked up for no reason. Dumb as hell. Oh, and didn’t even get the achievement for beating the 343 employee. At least I think you get one.
