odd, i’ve been having the same experience.
i’m a casual player, thus most of slayer i play is either qp or team slayer, yet it feels so competitive. i had recently for the weekly got a challenge to play ranked… ranked, a comp mode, felt leagues more casual than qp.
and i think it boils down, for me at least, to the AR. the AR in this game is so unfun to battle against, since it’s practically the SAW, high damage and no real spread unless half the mag is gone, but even then, feathering. the AR really needs a spread increase
And this drains down your xp boost too, so playing with friends is a bad idea if you want to progress at a reasonable rate.
Yeah like when you got an xp boost on and your friend say “hold up I’ll be right back” while you watch your xp boost waste away
That’s why when I play with my friend I don’t use xp boosts
Yeah I have been feeling the sbmm since day one. Very rarely to i get a fun casual match.
You know why?
Because Ranked is balanced.
Perhaps years of Halo games and a single stand alone could provide much needed data for a base game that then you adapt as its unique issues intell but a lass, “QT” and quality teams need to pretend they are worth their lay check
simply because of the semi removal of the AR and sidekick. it’s almost like they’re unfun and too op or something :3
I have to agree. I can literally smell the gaming gaming chair of thr unshowered sweaty kids on the other team.
It kind of socks. On on hand, I CAN play at a very high level still and attempt to in ranked. On the other hand, I rarely want want and would rather play half asleep because that’s the time I have. Let alone if I play with actual friends who were matchmaking heros in their past lives.
I’d never ask for ranked to tone it down as it only makes sense. We need to let social be social. Every game is crouch strafing and coordinated team play and I just want to use the AR and the mongoose.
Imagine!! It’s almost like comp players have like, a point or something!
I feel been feeling the lack of SBMM since day one (in both ranked and social). Almost every match has a hugh skill gap in it and there is always 1 or 2 player(s) completely dominating the match.
It makes all matches either realy boring (when on winning side) or completely frustrating (when on losing side). I might still be able to stay positive most of the time, but there is just no fun in those matches. And it makes both players on the losing side as players on the winning side quit matches, because they simple don’t like playing matches where they don’t matter because that pro-player is stealing all the kills or where they only serve as cannon fodder.
I don’t know how some people here keep saying they have some magical strict SBMM, but i never experience something even close to that.
Yes. Making those “social” playlists truly social by discouraging you from playing with your friends.
What you’re likely actually experiencing is super strict SBMM where someone on your team is a highly ranked player that wants to jump into a “social” game and chill with some friends and not be forced to carry the team to victory. So the matchmaking is completely skewed for all the other lower ranked teammates who then have to suffer playing against a team of higher ranked players.
No, it clearly is not, because:
- it happens about 70-90% of the time. You simple cannot tell me there is this enormous amount of pro-players playing with a lesser player compared to the entire playerbase…
- If it would be the case that it’s a pro-player playing with a lesser player, for a strict SBMM there should also be a completely lesser skilled player in that team to get the balance. Yet, there is none. It often is the case that either all 7 others are about the same skill-level (but with a strict SBMM that would not be the case then if it’s a pro with a lesser player teaming up, since a strict SBMM would average it out, so the other should be in between those two, not equal with the lesser one) or it is that the lesser player in that team where the pro is in, is about the same skill level as the best player or best 2 players of the oppo team, with the other players on that oppo team are far lesser skilled. The teams are also out of balance.
There simply is not (strict) SBMM noticable in the far majority of my matches. Teams are not balance, individual player skills are not balanced. Both in social and in ranked.
Just had a ranked match, where the same happened again, with 1 way better player just completely ruining the balance of the match:
Eagle team: +1.0, -4.0, -3.0, +2.0 (me)
Corbra team: -3.7, +4.3, +12.0, +0.0
This is clearly not balanced because of that single player that went +12.0. He was clearly more skilled and didn’t even seem to try that hard. And it’s clearly also not that it ws someone who was paired with a lesser player to balance it out, because my team had 2 players about the same skill as the worst in their team (with the worst in my team). And this is one is not even the worst one i got.
For example, yesterday i had this clearly worse match:
Eagle team: -6.7, -6.3, -2.7, -1.0
Cobra team: -4.7, +2.7 (me), +26.0, +0.0* +0.0**
*player who quit about 3/4th into the match
**bot player that only loaded in just before the end (we played with only 3 players for a while)
These matches are just absolutely no fun. And i get those types of matches more then half the time (sometimes on the winning side, where sometimes i am that way better player, sometimes on the losing side). But matches that are actually equal i have rarely gotten.
It seems strange to me that your experience is so completely different than mine. Maybe something is just totally broken with the matchmaking system. This wouldn’t surprise me considering the server issues and all the other bugs.
It also might be playing out differently in Big Team vs. 4v4 modes. I’m mostly talking about Big Team and you seem to mostly be talking about 4v4. So 🤷
I think we can both agree that whatever is going on, it’s messed up and is making for lots of unenjoyable matches.
That might be.
Could also be. I am indeed talking about 4v4.
I also think that there is a difference in how SBMM should work in 4v4 and in BTB.
- In 4v4 i think by far most matches should be about equal, since 1 player can make a huge difference in the outcome.
- In BTB the skill difference within the team can very, no problem with that. Most of my matches in BTB (i haven’t played that match) seemed to have a team with 4 better players + 4 average players + 4 lesser players (sometimes it is 3-5-4 or 4-5-3), but that seems completely fine, as long as the two teams won’t differ to much (the range of difference between teams can very a bit more then in 4v4 ofcourse, because it has a lesser impact because of the amount of players). That also makes it good to play for a pro who teams up with a lesser player, since the make-up for those matches then already have that make up to begin with.
agreed
I’m seeing this come up in forums pretty consistently and I’m experiencing it myself. I’m the quintessential “average player”. I’m a platinum 2, right at the peak of the bell curve. I’ve never seen so many players with near perfect aim and I’m not sure that one playlist is discernible from another. They are all really sweaty.
It seems like I get completely wrecked on a consistent basis.
I’d like to hear some input from 343 on this. I have no idea how players are matched with each other but something isn’t quite right here.
Yup. Infinite is the most competitive Halo to-date (my personal opinion is that crossplay has made this what it is).
The only thing different between Ranked and Quick Play - is that you can see your rank in Ranked.
This 100%. The social playlist is more ranked than ranked. I could complain about it day and night cause I love this game and it sucks the fun out of it.
Encountered 2 cheaters last night. One on quickplay. Watched their video in the theatre. Reported him afterwards. Guy was wallhacking on PC. Lining up shots with his crosshair behind walls and knew where everyone was. It’s so stupidly obvious. At higher ranks this is quite normal to encounter apparently. As it’s not the first time I’ve run across this, and I don’t even play this game as much as I did before.
The point I’m saying this is, this game is extremely sweaty to the point where cheaters are cheating in quickplay. Lol
Bro do you even know what matchmaking means? There’s been “matchmaking” in pretty much every online shooter ever. I think your thinking of skill based match making. “Matchmaking” implies any way of connecting you to other players whether it be based on ping, or in this case skill. You can’t just use the term “matchmaking” when reffering to SBMM, it’s funny you couldn’t even fathom that.
