Here is how I would like to see the playlists. Basically, it is a Halo 3-esque separation of playlists. There is a Ranked set of playlists, where CSR is tracked, and a Social set of playlists, where CSR is not tracked.
Ranked:
Team Throwdown (The Competitive playlist 343 was talking about)
Lone Wolves (Slayer, Oddball, KOTH, Regicide)
Team Doubles
Team Objective (CTF, Extraction, Oddball, KOTH) OR Squad Battle (5v5 - CTF, Extraction)
Team Snipers
Social:
Infinity Slayer
Big Team Battle (Infinity Slayer, Dominion, CTF)
Rumble Pit (Unranked version of Lone Wolves)
Flood
Grifball
SWAT
Multi-Team
Action Sack
Crimson DLC
By organizing the playlists like this, everyone is happy. The competitive players have competitive playlists with more competitive settings, and the more casual players can still enjoy the game and just be able to mess around in Social playlists.
What do you think? Are there any playlists you would add/remove/change?
Don’t combine objective, at least not CTF and Extraction with Oddball and KoTH. The reason for this is because CTF and Extraction are played generally on the larger maps whereas Oddball and KoTH are always played on the small maps.
Feel free to combine KoTH and Oddball in one playlist and put CTF and Extraction in another. Place the KoTH and Oddball playlist in Social and place the CTF and Extraction playlist in Ranked.
Combining all four in one playlist will just alienate the community and WILL, I repeat WILL result in a lower overall population.
Ahh, I knew I was forgetting something. I’ll add Multi-Team to Social.
As for Extraction and CTF, I put them together with Oddball and KOTH because MLG/AGL play CTF and Extraction on smaller 4v4 maps like Adrift, Haven, and Dispatch. But I see what you’re getting at, mlp.
Alright, I added Squad Battle, a 5v5 CTF/Extraction playlist to Ranked. I would be okay with adding this instead of Team Objective. In addition, if Squad Battle is preferred, I would add a 4v4 Social Skirmish playlist, with KOTH and Oddball.
It’s all good except for the fact that you have to have Infinity Slayer as ranked too because there is always a out of the box slayer in ranked besides MLG type gametypes. Also you need Team Snipers and Swat in ranked (im not sure if you put snipers in ranked) but it has to be there, besides that perfect.
Dude, very nice playlist ideas. Totally agree with you about ranked and social needing to be divided. That way, everyone gets what they want. With the current format, the casual players complain about matchmaking being too competitive, or bullying, or it’s just too hard. The competitive players complain that weapons aren’t balanced, ordnance is random, no one tries to win, and there’s no ranking system. With the two split, each side gets what they want. Why does 343 continue to refuse to acknowledge this?!

The reason I didn’t add Infinity Slayer in ranked is because most competitive players don’t like the Infinity settings like random Ordnance and Personal Ordnance. Plus, Team Throwdown will include a more competitive version of Slayer, so I felt that adding a ranked Infinity Slayer playlist would have just been redundant.
I originally put SWAT in Social but someone previously mentioned that they would prefer it being in Ranked, and it was also Ranked in Halo 3, but I’m cool with it being in Social or Ranked.

The only way I think that would work is if SWAT was a voting option in Infinity Slayer or something. However, most people wouldn’t like that since not everyone likes SWAT. I think what I’ll do is just move it back to Social, since I don’t find it as competitive as other playlists like Doubles or Snipers.
This thread just reinforces my belief that one of the major issues with this game even before it was released was 343’s idea of how they were going to manage playlists.
This whole thing about “rotational playlists” was a red flag to me.
Bottom Line: If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Why not just adopt the playlist philosophy that was implemented in Halo 3?
Your proposed playlist is way better than what 343 has done so far with this game.
