my problem with a full map editor

This is my first time making a thread so bear with my ineptitude.

I have a few issues with the idea of having a full on map editor.

  1. While having a full blown map editor would be awesome it would screw over any person who has a bad Internet connection. When I want to go play a forged map for a custom game I like the fact that its only a few seconds delay for the map to download. If it turned into a full map editor with terrain editing and all that jazz then we would have to download all new models and textures. While on fast Internet connections this isn’t an issue for me and many of my friends who only have a few hours maybe on a Friday or Saturday to play a game waiting ten minutes to download a map when we might not even enjoy the map really takes a large chunk out of our play time.

  2. My second reason isn’t really a reason but its most likely that Microsoft wont allow a full map editor because now that the dlc is more prevalent it allows them to sell map packs instead of us making our own full maps. When Far cry came out it was before xboxlive had started and on PC it was very common for map editors to come out for FPS. Nowadays this is not the case.

Thanks for your time.

  1. Screw them. Devs should be allowed to expect a certain bandwidth, that a few backward people haven’t got good internet doesn’t mean the idea should be scrapped. I mean, this is like lowering the player count because some people can’t handle that many connections.

  2. Hope not, is all I can really say. If 343 want to do it, why not? They’ll just have to step their DLC up a notch.

When I said them I mean that net I also have that Internet speed. my speed is only slightly slower then the average American households Internet according to some survey that was done that was posted on Engadget a while back(cant remember the name). My speed is normally around 400kb per second and the Average American household is somewhere in the ballpark of 520 to 550 kb per second. Its not that ludicrous that download speeds would affect a large amount of people above and below that line.

Edit: My ping is also really low and so is my packet loss ratio its just that my dl speed is low.
