My plea to 343

No, Halo Infinite probably doesn’t need a battle royale to be a great game or to make money. If those are the only goals, it could probably launch today and be fine. With that said, as a 35 year-old who has loved Halo since the day CE released in 2001, I want Infinite to be the biggest game in the world. I care so deeply about this franchise and I want Infinite to be more than just another great game. In order for that to happen, yes, it will need to have a battle royale. Obviously it won’t be at launch, and it doesn’t have to be, but I’m pleading to 343 to at least tease it, and eventually make it a reality.

I’m an older gamer, but I have enough younger cousins and nephews in my life to understand what keeps today’s gamers invested in games. Even a great arena shooter will find it very difficult maintain interest for many years, especially a franchise that is largely bound by cannon for its cosmetics. The long-term success of Infinite will depend on many factors, but perhaps chief among them is, “is it worthwhile and fun to ‘grind’ the game and invest my time into.” I have serious concerns that it won’t be without a battle royale.

How long will it be before the cosmetic-only items we grind the battle pass for become stale? I love customizing my spartan as much as anyone, but cosmetics alone simply won’t keep many people invested for long. People grind other games to unlock meta-changing weapons, outrageous operators, weapon attachments, etc. None of this is possible in Halo multiplayer. Sure, people will grind Infinite to unlock a weapon skin, or a helmet, but cosmetic-only items like these will eventually run stale. It’s a great game, but I couldn’t help but notice pros & streamers alike growing bored after just 3 days of the tech preview. Granted, it was only a preview, but that’s still troublesome. A battle royale allows for introducing items that will require players to grind the game in order to keep up with the current meta, and that’s a meta that 343 can change at will to keep the game fresh. Imagine a season where you can unlock the CE magnum or a playable Elite to use in the Infinite battle royale, and the only way to get them is to grind the battle pass. The possibilities are endless.

I understand the people who don’t enjoy battle royale games, but I don’t understand the people who are against Infinite having one. If you don’t like it, simply don’t play it. Many have said this before, but it bears repeating: The Halo universe is almost too perfectly suited for a battle royale not to have one. 20 years of weapons, lore, characters, etc.

Please 343.

“the only BR we’re really interested in is Battle Rifle” -343i

I can see it happening down the line. with the amount of time and resources they pooled into this game, if playercount starts dwindling 343i is certainly gonna get creative. for now I’m hoping forge is good enough for the community to create their own high quality BR.

Would you be okay with the multiplayer being on PlayStation?

I feel like that would be great in a year or two to give the game some extra buzz, keep the campaign as Xbox exclusive.

I really don’t think Infinite needs Playstation players in its MP to “maintain buzz,” the gameplay should do that.

I rather play a real Halo Game with a low amount of a playerbase but play the real Halo Modes (like Slayer, CTF, FFA and so on), instead of a non Halo-mode with a lot of players. (And since Infinite is F2P and availabe for Xbox AND PC, i don’t think the playerbase will sink to a low amount tbh)

Your take makes no sense at all tbh. Sorry dude.

Here my explanation why Halo should not have a battle royal: Slayer, BTB, Ranked, FFA and CTF are core modes from Halo wich almost every Halo player looking forward to. Halo is Halo and dont need to be like other games like PUBG or whatever.

Imho this game doesnt need to be an “egg laying woolmilk-pig” (sorry for the translation from german into english :D) i mean, it don’t has to be such an allrounder with every game mod, every player count on the map, to make every single player with any sorts of desire happy. The game is not even finished yet and will not even launch with all modes. If you want to play br, play PUGB (or something). People don’t have to be scared that Infinite has a small playerbase as long the game itself is good (and MP is F2P), has a good reputation and a good launch (wich is important).
With that said, it’s so much work to put in the game, now, on launch and beyond launch and it’s way more important (not only for me, but for almost every Halo Fan and the Franchise and devs itself) to launch the game in a good state and release the missing Content first.

It would be really unecessary to put time, money, ressources and staff for a mode, Halo doesn’t really need.

If it was productive, i.e providing a greater playerbase and generating more revenue for the company, then I’d agree with you.

However, with Infinite not being designed for BR to begin with, what must be sacrificed to make it a reality? I’m afraid they’d have to reduce graphics settings, lower the framerate, reduce the amount of polygons on items, etc. to facilitate the BR experience (Having >100 players on a huge map will heat up some CPU’s).

So if the proposed BR experience becomes a “Halo Infinite - Light” game, then that could have potential long term negative effects for the franchise. Young players would come in and be dissapointed because they think this is the real Halo, when it’s not.

We already have existing BR topics open, feel free to use those. There are no current plans for any BR games or modes
