My personal thoughts on Sprint

I’ve played a lot of Halo. Even a lot of other shooters (got into CoD for awhile). I’m old. Halo CE was my first Xbox game.

Anyways: Sprint.

Let me say, I’m open to change for the most part. Thruster pack, I like. Ground pound, not so much.

Sprint: don’t like it. Not because of map flow, or it not being ‘Halo’ to me.

But because of shields. I just played a game on Halo 4 Doubles, one guy quit out.

The other guy sprinted away every time he had a shot put into him. Recharge or not, everyone sprints away for cover. It just doesn’t work for shields.

The kill time isn’t fast enough for Sprint. Maybe for 4v4 or big team, it may work. But that’s not my style. 2v2 is what I love to play. And sprint doesn’t work.

At least have game types where this isn’t allowed.

Just my thoughts.

Respectfully, the sprint topic has been discussed to death. I respect your opinions, but it’s probably time for everyone to make a choice on whether it’s a deal breaker for them or not because it’s going to be in the final build. If you want to read other’s opinions just search for other sprint threads, there are a LOT of them.

I can understand your frustration with the original design of sprint in halo 4. However some of your griveances have been rectified in the Halo 5 model of sprint. For example:

  • Shields do not recharge when engaging sprint, so if one were to run away damaged, they must stop and jog to start the recharge. Otherwise they will often run into opponents at be forced to engage at a disadvantage. - The person cannot simply runaway from battle when they are shot; the person must be running at full speed or they will be knocked out of sprint. The automatic weapons are/were effective at stopping people from high-tailing it out of combat. - The top speed of sprint was reduced and it takes longer to start up to get to it.- lastly getting shot at full sprint will slow you down like in 4.with these changes, your bad encounters with sprint will be less annoying and not a huge problem in Halo 5.

Sprint in Halo 4 was absolute garbage despite it being universal no matter your loadout. The common argument for sprint back in the “old” times was that it wasn’t bad because it was synonymous in all loadouts, but it was never looked upon by these same people of the flaws sprint would give almost every matchmaking match.

Anti-Sprint Extremists at it again.

I think I’ve put the most time into BTB matches online on Halo 4, but I’ve enjoyed the odd 2v2 as it’s a totally different dynamic. Springing does seem completely out of place in 2v2 like Paqk said, at least in BTB or 4v4 if someone sprints away they’re likely to run into a new enemy. But in 2v2 they usually get away to safety and it makes the whole match kind of feel like a chore rather than a game. There goes that wascally wabbit again! He legged it outta here and dropped a grenade on me yet again as I tried to chase him down and put that last single bullet in him to finish him off!

Looks like sprinting’s been well balanced for Halo 5. Yeah, I’m late to the discussion and no, I didn’t get the MC collection so I have 0 experience with the Halo 5 beta.
