Hello fellow Spartans, Marines, and ODSTs. I’m giving my personal review for Halo 5 after playing Halo 5 for the past week. Now Ive been playing Halo since Halo CE came out and have stuck with the series since then. With this being said I will be talking some s*** about some stuff, but not a lot. So if you don’t want to hear me complain about some things turn back now. Still here? Alright lets get started.
I’m going to be covering the Story first so actually I have another warning if you have yet to beat the story, you should probably turn back now. So yeah Spoilers are ahead, you were warned. Alright so with Halo 4 leaving us off with Master Chief staring out over earth after losing Cortana we start Halo 5 off a couple months or maybe even a year after the events of Halo 4. You start the story off with Halos newest characters Locke and his fire team with Osiris. They are part of the new generation of Spartans, Spartan 4. Almost all of these faces are new expect for Buck (Surprise) If any of you played Halo Reach Fire fight you probably remember the quote for Bucks voice “Truly if he was any better he’d be a Spartan.” Well now he is. You start the story off going after Catherine Halsey, being held be the new Covenant. So after being dispatched they rescue Halsey and kill the leader.
Then you get dropped into the boots of Master chief and his blue, his old Spartan II teammates, Fredrick, Kelly, and Linda. Even though Fredrick is the highest ranking out the team, Master Chief still leads the team, Just because he’s Master Chief. So you’ve been dispatched to retake a UNSC station, but in good old Master chief fashion, You have to end up scuttling the station cause hey the covenant fleet is now knocking on your door. But wait during your time there Cortana contacts you letting you know she is still alive and wants you to find her. So after scuttling the station, you inform UNSC command of Cortana and they inform you that they already have a team on it. Master chief isent having any of that and he decides to go after her and blue team and you go after her.
Well ONI isent having any of this so they dispatch Lockes team to go after Chief and his team. Before I continue I would just like to say the AI for my teammates pissed me off, It feels like I had to hold their hand and constantly revive them. I shouldn’t have to worry about my battle hardened Spartan IIs dying or acting stupid. Continuing on to summarize the rest of the story Locke and his team hunt down Chief and his team across the galaxy. Locke and his team do catch up to Chief but Chief ends up fighting Locke and gets his visor cracked but ultimately wins by slapping that device onto Locke that freezes his armor up. So Locke and his team continue searching for Chief while helping Arbiter and some UNSC colonies out. After finally getting a way to reach chief with Arbiters help (He survives and beats the rogue covenant) After this they arrive on the Forunner planet that Chief is on, upon arriving they meet the Monitor of this installation, and I got to say I liked her because she didn’t try to kill me and she had a really funny sense of humor.
Moving on Chief and his team have discovered that Cortana has gone mad and is trying to purge the universe and become a universal protector of everyone and ending violence everywhere with Guardians left over by the Forunners. Chief and Locke work their way through the complex to stop her, after Chief and his team finally reach Cortana (After fighting Three Wardens or more), Chief tries to convince Cortana to stop this and come back with him to Earth. Cortana isent listening and puts Chief, Fredrick, Kelly, and Linda in a frozen state.
So Locke and his team take out several objectives and stops Cortana by giving control back to the Monitor, getting Chief and the team back, but Cortana still escapes with her Guardian and goes off to find the Infinity and the rest of the AI’s end up shutting down colonies around the universe. Before Cortana can do anything the Infinity starts making random jumps. Blue Team and Osiris jump back to where Arbiter, Halsey and Palmer are hold up from Cortana. The game then ends up leaving on a cliff hanging with Halsey saying What took you so long to Chief. That’s how the game ends so your going to have to wait till Halo 6.
So I love the story, its great. I love Chief and his team, I was really excited to see Fredrick, Kelly, and Linda for the first time in a Halo game. I also liked Locke and his team, despite originally thinking Id hate them. Expect Buck, you can never hate Buck. Overall the story was great and left me wanting more. My only complaints were I wanted it to be Longer. I also sometimes, No a lot of the time went out of my way to search for the hidden Intel and skulls, which sometimes left me missing out on conversations and fighting enemies which pissed me off, Id rather be involved in the story then searching for 117 intel.
I didn’t have to search for them, but I wanted to hear the intel and get he achievements. I also dislike the AI, I shouldn’t have to worry about them dying or doing stupid stuff. Take cover and shoot stuff. I also wish the story was more detailed and gave more background to the characters and events going on. Overall I loved the story and cant wait for Halo 6s story, 343 did an amazing job. However they should have kept Spartan Ops that way there could be some more background and story going on and something to wait for every week or two. I loved the story and can say it was easily one of the greatest Halo stories in the series. I’m not going to give it a score. I’m going to leave it up to you to decide. I also don’t want to sound like IGN.
Alright moving on to Multiplayer. Remember when I said I would be talking some s*** well the Multiplayer is where that comes in. I LOVE and HATE the Multiplayer. It has so many things to love and hate. Lets start with what I love. I love the maps, they are detailed, Large, and fun to play on. I love the weapons and Armor. I love the fresh new looking weapons and armor. I still Love the DMR, Assault rifle, and Shotgun. I enjoy Warzone and think that is a fresh new thing adding a new game mode for us people who like our 22-30 minute matches. Its fun and it gives teams multiple ways to win, you need team work to win to take objectives and beat bosses. The New ranking system is nice because you dont rank up so fast. I enjoyed seeing Slayer back and SWAT.
Alright moving onto what I hate. I Hate that they got rid of load outs. I loved having a DMR and assault rifle with me in the beginning. Say what you want but I miss Loadouts. Also I don’t like how there is 50 different versions of a gun. Keep it classic, Assault rifles don’t need scopes or RDS. Battle rifles felt fine with the normal scope. Projection weapons are utter BS and way over powered. I have the projection SMG and it is OP, I can tear through a whole enemy squad in one to two clips. I hate the REQ System. I’m not only saying this because I have yet to get anything good, I liked unlocking my Armor, weapons, and stances through ranks. The Armor system is terrible I liked having armor organized and the ability to change knee guards and gauntlets. Also 3/4 of the armor is just limited, I only like a few armor sets and most are just plain ugly. The armor still is not as detailed as Reaches. Reach had the best armor sets. I also miss having the Falcon or Hornet in Multiplayer. I overall love it, but want to see changes.
