My Personal Equipment Ranking List

On break at work and thinking about this stuff kind of keeps my mind occupied, so I thought I’d make a quick list of what I think about each equipment. To preface the list, I don’t think any equipment is useless nor would I pass up even the ones I list the lowest if I had nothing on hand. It’s just that some things are much better than others. So, in order:

  1. The Repulsor. The sheer multitude of ways you can use the repulsor makes it worth getting every time it’s available, and important to control in even competitive matches. You can actually kill people with it, something no other equipment can do besides the absolute million to one grapple shot kill. It can throw people off the map, or into walls, It can push vehicles, move objectives around, bounce projectiles being thrown and from most weapons and vehicles back at someone, allow you to do super jumps and double jumps, and even throw vehicles off balance. You can also stall yourself out midair after you jump in a lift or mancannon, which is way more useful than it might sound at first. The list seems to get longer every day as people find more uses for it. Truly, the repulsor is the king of equipment in Infinite, as the limitations are just the scope of your imagination.

  2. Camo. Simple and straightforward, camo is great. It’s very effective in Infinite as it dampens your footsteps, takes you off radar, and makes you invisible all at the same time. It may be the most effective camo in the series, especially since you can choose when to employ it now. I often joke with friends that camo is my favorite power weapon, and it’s really not a joke. I’d pick camo over anything really.

  3. Grapple Shot. This one is clear, the grapple is powerful and important to control. Most people probably consider this the best or their favorite at least, but it’s lower on my list because it has more limitations than the repulsor. It allows you to do some important movement tricks, and combined with some weapons like the sword or hammer or plasma pistol it’s A huge threat. But it can also get you killed with a poorly aimed shot. Being able to pull the objective or weapons to you might be its most powerful feature however, and in those ways it might be overpowered in a competitive setting.

  4. Thruster Pack. Pros do it. And you can too. I’m not the biggest fan of this one but I know how powerful it can be in the right hands. You can cover space very quickly and bail out of A bad matchup in a pinch. You can also get really fast and absurd Ninjas with it. But it doesn’t have that many uses besides just moving you quickly in a particular direction for a short burst. It’s great for competitive, but really straightforward.

  5. Overshields. I personally don’t think much of OS in this game. It’s not bad, but the lack of a short invincibility period and the relatively low shield boost makes it underwhelming most of the time. It’s most useful feature is when you’re one shot, dive behind cover, pop it, and jump right back into the fight fully recovered. But that’s good for maybe one or two extra kills at best before you’re back to normal or dead anyway. It’s good, but not great imo.

  6. Threat Sensor. It’s got some powerful tactical applications, but is very limited in things it can do. It can highlight any enemies caught in its area of effect, including camo players, which is great. But beyond that and some awkward tricks where it blocks shots from certain weapons if you have it on your body, it doesn’t have any other uses. It does have an area denial aspect, since most players will hesitate to run through the bubble of sensor energy and give away their presence. It is pretty funny to attach it to someone in a vehicle and turn them into a mobile scanner though. It’s ability to find camo players and provide X-ray information on what enemies have in the next room is very valuable, so I don’t mind having it at all. But it’s not something I rush on purpose.

  7. Drop Wall. Most people hate this thing, but I find it useful in a few ways. Namely, the best ability is has is blocking one power weapon shot like a sort of counter move. If you’re getting chased by someone with a bulldog for instance, you can run around a corner, spin 180, drop it, it will absorb the shot as they round the corner unloading shots. This has been the only real way I’ve found it useful. It can block vehicle shots as well but other than tanks, this isn’t very helpful. It’s underpowered or just plain underwhelming imo, but not totally useless.

So anyway, there’s my list, let me know about how you would compare things, and especially let me know if I missed something about each item

There aren’t enough equipment types to make the Sandbox interesting.

I really wish they would re add the Mine for antivehicle use ( but buff the vehicle health slightly ) and make it so the mine only does critical damage

Re add the flash Orb but make it more of a Flash with Smoke cloud that you have to use a vision mode to see through, as this would help players see Invis by there being a void near the smoke and give players a chance to escape the sword.

Combine a nerfed promethean vision with the visor scan with a long cool down to offset poor radar range.

Yeah drop wall can potentially absorb a power weapon shot but it deploys too slowly for that to be useful in many scenarios.

They should add a nerfed bubble shield with a fast deploy time that is capable of withstanding at least two rockets or one shot from the Brute Spike Launcher.

Camo is perfect. Imo only the Camo and Repulser are flawless.

A trip mine you can remote detonate as well would be pretty cool. I can think of a number of applications for that sort of thing.

I think a Remote Detonation thing was found in the Game files sooo maybeeee it will be added to the game. Would be easy to guard the flag with though lol, but balanced by being seen with the scanner function

Really only playing ranked when I play Halo I believe that I’ve failed to fully understand and utilize the various pieces of equipment that are on maps aside from like Overshield or Camo. Being able to successfully utilize the repulsor, grapple shot and thrusters give you such a high level of tactile advantage over your opponents and that alone can swing a match in your favor.

I’ve said this since the beginning. Equipment ruins competitive play, but you know. It HAS to be there for some reason

It feels like the idea of speeding up gameplay in competitive. I wonder if HCS will take it out at a certain point like they did with Halo 3.

They will just like they did the spartan charge and ground pound. It’s just extraness that isn’t needed

Gosh I absolutely hated Spartan Charge. Such a frustrating game mechanic to work with and against in Halo 5. Ground pound on the other hand… I sorta enjoyed getting the final kill that way of the game.

I enjoyed both for what they were. I want the damage removed and have them function the same way
