So its been about 4 days since Halo 4 came out, and I have had a fair amount of time with the game to say that I’m officially in love with Halo 4. Campaign was absolutely epic and I enjoyed every second going back as the Chief. I love how 343 made you feel like him in the way you could see the outlines of his visor and it was pretty nostalgic to hear and see Cortana in your visor again. The graphics and sounds were basically flawless. You gotta give 343 credit for squeezing out every last bit of power out of the 360 on this game. The cutscenes and plot for this game were also something I really enjoyed and I loved how it ended in a way that didn’t leave you in a full on cliff hanger but at the same time kept the story open.
Moving over to multiplayer. I’m seeing so much potential in Halo 4’s multiplayer aspect. I used to be one of those players that wanted nothing more than to go back to simpler times of Halo CE, and Halo 2, but I’ve come to understand that in the end that isn’t whats best for community because it will go stale eventually. I’ve come to accept and brace change from each iteration of Halo’s multiplayer, and rather than whine and complain about the changes I’ve learned to just adapt to them and use them to my advantage. Halo 2 was my favorite multiplayer experience and although I will never get that back I get a sense of it here in Halo 4. I think the thing I most love about Halo 4 MP is that although you have all these different options and ways to change up the gameplay experience, in the end it always boils down the the core elements of gunplay, grenades, and melee. I find that throughout most of my encounters in the game I generally will win or lose each battle based on my ability to use the DMR/BR along with well placed grenades and positioning, and I don’t ever feel cheated or at a disadvantage because of some armor ability or tactical package. I feel like 343 did an very nice job of balancing the game from this standpoint. I also have to mention how much I missed having faster kill times and player speeds, this game definitely brings that back and I love it on top of the fact that everything has been so well polished that I definitely noticed how smooth player movement is compared to Reach. Although it sucks to get wasted that fast when you get double teamed, I must say its a blast when you do it to the other team. Overall I’m loving the MP aspect and at first I griped a little bit about instant respawns just for the fact it was hard to call out “My X” since there really wasn’t one anymore lol. I’ve again come to adapt to it and embrace it. I think it brings something new to the flow of the game and on a note about the killcams, one positive thing I can mention about them is that I find it somewhat relieving when look at it and see that I didn’t lose a battle when I was 1v1 with someone, but was rather killed by a totally different opponent that I didn’t know was shooting me.
The DMR/BR/Light Rifle/Carbine are all guns that I think 343 did an amazing job of balancing. They definitely all come down to range as well as player preference. At first I thought the DMR was the gun to end all guns but after giving the BR a solid chance I personally feel like the BR has its strengths over the DMR in certain instances. I personally just love the fact that you can switch up your gameplay however you see fit and in the end when your out there playing it will still come down to how well you used your gun, grenades, melee, positioning. Again well done 343.
To wrap things up I’ll just briefly mention Spartan Ops. Thank you 343 for getting rid of firefight and replacing it with this. Firefight was fun at first but eventually it just turned to monotonous, dull gameplay where you just watched the exact same thing happen over and over in the same area. At least with Spartan Ops you get to move around and change the layout of the level on top of getting to to have a story and cutscenes. I can see this having a lot more appeal to it and less grief playing as time goes on. Overall I absolutely love this game and I’m very impressed with the progress 343 has done on there fist Halo game of their series. Bravo guys.
Yeah =)
Also you should space out your paragraphs
I didn’t know people liked Halo 4. I think it looks great too, but most people hate it for stupid reasons.
Thanks for this post, I completely agree :).
I love how balanced things are right now…I think most people complaining about things are just sad that their power weapons no longer dominate things and that skill with a weapon >>>>> all else.
You need to spread this message, they aren’t going to just re-skin Halo 2 and slap another number on it, aside from things that will most likely be addressed soon enough I really enjoy Halo 4.
