My original REQ ideas. (LOTS OF TEXT AHEAD)

Note: I have made a thread like this in the past, but there’s no way that I am going to revive the earlier one! I’ve also tried to make this thread as a poll, but it failed… :frowning:

For a while, I’ve been thinking of some REQ items that can be used in Warzone. Now, I’ve managed to come up with the following: 4 vehicles and 2 weapons.

All are creative, yet realistic enough for anyone to use. So please do take the time to browse through this bit of my imagination and see which one tickles your interest. If, for some reason, something feels off with a REQ or two, feel free to tweak it to your own tastes as these are simply concepts, and who knows if 343i will take notice from this thread. Without further delay…here we go!

  • Queen Wasp (REQ Level to be determined)

"Better pack your bug spray … she’s bringing down the entire hive on you. Advanced Wasp with heavy armor, upgraded shields, and greatly enhanced mobility. The Queen Wasp is equipped with heavy autocannons, EMP missiles, Threat Marker tracking, and special combat drones that can swarm over an enemy target." - Queen Wasp description

The Queen Wasp was originally meant to be “the ultimate Wasp”, though now it’s now simply another variant of the UNSC’s newest combat VTOL. Besides receiving heavy armor, stronger shielding, and greatly enhanced agility, the Queen Wasp has some unique features. The machine guns have been replaced with slower-firing, but more powerful autocannons, and the missiles travel much faster, capable of locking onto aerial and ground targets, and are equipped with EMP warheads. Upon achieving a red reticule, the target is painted with a Threat Marker (a very underrated feature if you ask me), which can track their position behind cover for a short while. The Queen Wasp may also accommodate a set of special combat drones which can swarm both infantry and vehicle alike, gradually damaging them over a period of time. After bombarding the target, the drones return to the Queen Wasp for a cooldown before they can be used again.

  • Laser Mantis (Level 7 - 8 REQ; the ONI version is a Level 8)

"Misriah Armory’s recent advancements and developments in their Spartan Laser technology have resulted in heavy laser weaponry approved for use on all Mantis platforms. Mining-grade Spartan Laser requires a short warmup." - Default Laser Mantis description

The Laser Mantis is a deadly and nimble laser platform that can wreak havoc on infantry, materiel, and vehicle alike. To address the mech’s shortcomings in vehicular combat, a mining-grade Spartan Laser (considering if Liang-Dortmund services this machine for excavation work) replaces the standard machine gun, and is capable of cleaving through multiple layers of rock, ice, energy shielding, and solid metal in a single, precise blast. Due to the immense power and intensity of the laser itself, the point of impact is large, and leaves behind a lingering area-of-effect which can damage (and even kill) enemies should they wander into it. The laser also possesses a comical amount of knockback, hurling enemies, vehicles, and anything else backwards with considerable force should they be struck with the deadly beam.

  • Monitor’s Demise (Level 8 Mythic REQ)

"Send them out with a bang. Mythic Spartan Laser with increased damage, battery capacity, and full-screen zoom. Wielding the Monitor’s Demise increases movement speed, jump height, and shield strength." - Monitor’s Demise description

Quite literally a blast from the past, the Monitor’s Demise is specifically modeled after the Spartan Laser carried by Sgt. Johnson (and later the Master Chief) to destroy a rampant 343 Guilty Spark in Installation 04B’s control room during the final stages of Halo 3. A devastating Mythic weapon, the Monitor’s Demise would lay waste to anything big or small, and would turn even the mightiest of vehicles into dust, thanks to the weapon’s immense power and increased battery capacity. Equipping the Monitor’s Demise also grants the user with increased speed, jump height, and shield strength. However, you are stuck with the original “Classic” optic, which may induce tunnel-vision. That may bother a few however…old Halo 3 fans will be smacked with nostalgia with this weapon.

  • The Mosquito (REQ Level to be determined)

"The Mosquito is a stealth attack VTOL capable of surprise attacks, and then vanishing into thin air afterwards. Just don’t scratch yourself." - Default Mosquito description

A stripped-down variant of the Wasp, the Mosquito is a lightweight stealth attack VTOL specifically tailored for hit-and-run tactics, though it maintains all of the Wasp’s firepower. Just like its namesake, the Mosquito is meant to be annoying, hard to detect, and stings like a b*tch. Equipped with an onboard Active Camo generator, the Mosquito can remain undetected from enemy view and radar until it fires its weapons or takes damage. With the Active Camo covering the low-profile fuseluge, combined with its increased agility, the Mosquito is much harder to hit when compared to the Wasp. However, just like its namesake, one hit can put a Mosquito out of business. A rocket, a Splaser blast, or even a Railgun slug can badly cripple / destroy the Mosquito with a well-placed shot due to its lighter armor.

  • Attack Warthog (REQ Level to be determined)

"A new demand for additional firepower in the field has resulted in existing Warthogs outfitted for full combat pursuit." - Default Attack Warthog description

Essentially an overgrown Gungoose, the Attack Warthog (or Attack Hog if you prefer) is a Warthog equipped with side-mounted machine guns to vastly increase the vehicle’s offensive capabilities, allowing the driver to pursue enemy vehicles and fight on their own, even if they don’t have a passenger and / or a gunner with them. The rear turret is still intact however, which when combined with the side-mounted weapons operated by the driver, can lay down some overwhelming firepower which can rapidly chip away at a tank’s armor. The rear turret may be replaced with a Rocket Turret or Gauss Turret, which can be a devastating game changer in the hands of a potent crew.

  • Gravity Flail (REQ Level to be determined)

"Created from salvaged materials, only the finest of Jiralhanae raiders and berserkers are given this terrifying piece of barbaric fury. Successive swings deplete the weapon’s battery." - Gravity Flail description

An unusual variant of the Gravity Hammer, the Gravity Flail takes full advantage of a Brute’s sheer savagery and aggressiveness. Attached to the handle via a long series of chains, the dangling head of the Flail maintains all of the destructive capabilities of the Gravity Hammer, though it’s easier to handle in close quarters due to its smaller size, lighter weight, and the ability to use it one-handed. Besides smashing enemies into a pulp (with Smart Scope), rapidly twirling the Gravity Flail can help protect you from most incoming projectiles, and can be hurled to strike (and potentially stun) a distant target outside of your attack range. So what do you guys think? Do any of my original REQs tickle your tastes? What would you personally bring into battle? Would you tweak a REQ or two? Let me know in the comments below!

Before commenting on some of these, I want to give you some advice. If you want people to respond, do not say it’s a big wall of text in the title. Also, it may help if you made each req it’s own thread a few days apart

  1. The queen wasp seems cool, but I think some things would need to be changed. The drones seems kinda OP and I feel like the missiles would become the primary weapon instead of the turrets.

  2. The laser Mantis seems kinda like the Hannibal mantis, but it is different enough (I don’t think it needs an an ONI variant though). Does it have any missiles? I don’t think any were mentioned.

  3. I don’t think the Spartan laser would add anything new or unique. I also don’t think it’s powerful enough to be a mythic req. If you buff it, then it loses what it was supposed to be, which is a blast from the past.

  4. Easily my favorite out of your reqs, the mosquito I think would be an awesome addition. I think it’d be cool if it had no shields, but the same amount of armor.

  5. To make the attack warthog still teamwork focused, I’d have the front cannons do little damage, while the turret has the ONI turret. I feel this would still make it offensively focused, but it would still require teamwork to be effective.

  6. I think the hammer should just make the Spartans absolute after one hit (meaning one body shot from a pistol will kill the person). If you can use the spinny-shield thing effectively, you can quickly run up to someone and smash two quick shots into them. I’d say it’d have the range of a max red-reticle range of the SMG. Also, I’d change the chain from metal into energy to make the shield seem more realistic.

Wasp with Hydra missiles? Amazing!

> Wasp with Hydra missiles? Amazing!

Not exactly. The Queen Wasp missiles behave like the missiles on the standard Wasp, but they’re now simply equipped with EMP warheads to short out energy shielding and disable vehicles. Like the regular Wasp, you still need a direct hit to kill a Spartan.

Pretty good, but the Lazer Mantis sounds a lot like the Hannibal Mantis.

The Mosquito sounds pretty cool, I would love for a stealth based vehicle to be in the game.

Yo Arc Trooper 48, thanks for your feedback and advice, and glad you like the idea of the Mosquito! It’s true that writing a wall of text is a big no-no, and I’m continuing to improve myself on the forums. Now, I’ll address a couple of things for you:

  • The combat drones on the Queen Wasp were a recent addition, but will be removed for the sake of balance, and the autocannons may be reverted to the standard machine guns so the EMP missiles remain its most prominent weapon. You still need a direct hit to kill a Spartan, though.

  • The Laser Mantis still has the missile pod, and is a way of dealing with close-rang assailants / hijackers should they attack you while your laser is cooling down. It can lock onto aerial vehicles just fine, though I am still debating whether or not it should be able to lock onto ground vehicles…

  • The Monitor’s Demise was a personal attempt at creating another Mythic (and nostalgic) weapon. But since the Selene’s Lance pretty much fits the role as a potent face-melter, The Monitor’s Demise will be put off to the side. Oh well - at least I tried. :\

  • The Attack Hog was originally meant to address the issue of Warthog drivers who struggle to get a passenger / gunner to aid them in combat. You have a good point on the vehicle’s forward facing guns inflicting minimal damage so it doesn’t detract from its teamwork-based viability.

  • Going from a metal chain to an energy chain on the Gravity Flail seems a bit hi-tech for a Brute weapon; I tried to make the Flail reflect the Brute’s design philosophy by creating a rather crude, yet cruel bludgeoning stick bound with heavy metal chains. Still, it would be extremely helpful as you could “extend” its reach, twirl it to create an energy shield, and grapple onto an enemy and pull them towards you.

It’s basically a standard Mantis that has a giant Spartan Laser in place of its machine gun that can destroy vehicles with a single well-placed shot from a very far distance. The normal missile pod is still intact, however.

So basically everything here goes “PEW PEW” except for the one that goes “BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT”. Maybe a few different reqs that keep with standard UNSC weaponry.

I love the attack warthog idea. Envisioning my buddy who loves driving, and me gunning chasing down another warthog, or ghost, or just pushing through the middle of Storm Break sounds awesome!

You are welcome
Whenever I see a thread with no replies, I try to respond to it because I don’t want the OP’s hard work to never be seen.

I was thinking for the queen wasp that what if instead of drones, the wasp would release a barrage of 12 hydra missiles at one time, but it would be a one time use. This would cause it to basically one devastating punch that would take out most vehicles

Maybe for the mantis, to make the missiles unique, they’d be red and fire a single, accurate shot with each pull of the trigger.

While the brutes are still very barbaric, they still use a good deal of advanced technology and still use energy based weapons. Atriox for instance, has the energy mace. I think a red energy chord that connects a handle with a gravity hammer thing on the end would work. To make the chord look more brutish, I think it would surge with red electricity.

I have created a massive amount of interesting req ideas, but to sum it up to my favorite few…

THE ULTIMATE SCORPIO 0294 VEHICLE IDEA COLLECTION:

Experimental Wasp: A Wasp painted in the style of the Tier 3 UNSC Req weapons (e.g. Blaze of Glory, The Answer, etc.), with the main cannon replaced with The Answer (Explosive Bullets with slower ROF), and the Rockets replaced with High Five rockets (which split into 5 Hydra mini-missiles each). It would have increased damage resistance as well (on par with an ONI Wasp). Req level 5-6. Lore/Description: ONI prefers to keep their most delicate secrets away from all prying eyes, but Spartans are occasionally given access to these rare prototypes for testing and review. Wasp with significantly upgraded armament as well as increased armor strength.
Flamethrower Warthog: Exactly as it sounds. A Warthog with a Flamethrower strapped onto the back. It would have the dark green shade of the Halo 3 Flamethrower, and the Flamethrower, shark teeth and all, would be present where the turret usually is. Req level 2-3. Lore/Description: When the Flood invaded Earth, some soldiers got creative and built makeshift “flamerhogs” from the resources they had. These new vehicles proved to be highly effective at containing the infestation. Warthog with increased damage resistance as well as a flamethrower turret.
Rally Mongoose: A bright green Mongoose with increased speed, acceleration, as well as armor. Gungoose variant as well. Req level 1 (Mongoose) and req level 3-4 (Gungoose). Lore/Description: One of the most extreme forms of racing cropping up on remote colony worlds features heavily modified Mongooses racing over the harshest of terrains. Faster Mongoose with increased armor.
Agile Mantis: I’ve never really talked about this before, and I don’t really have a great name for it either. It could almost be called a Rally Mantis. It would have a different design pattern, the ability to jump, increased movement speed, and a faster and more powerful stomp. Req level 8. Lore/Description: Some drivers filed complaints about the sluggishness of Mantis units, and the UNSC has been working on fixing this issue. Prototypes are being put into Spartan War Games simulations for testing.

I just realized that these are in order of my favorite to least favorite.

I would tweak the mosquito.
I’d give it a grenade launcher and a end of the line sniper.
The chin mounted weapon which shoots sniper rifle bullets has 3x zoom (pressing zoom in would change your hud to the sniper hud). The bullets work like the regular sniper rifle’s but are thinner and as a result, the targets hitbox size is reduced for you. Unfortunately, the weapon only holds 1 bullet at a time so, it has to reload after every shot. The weapon also has high recoil, pushing the vehicle in the opposite direction after firing. It would be hard to aim with the main cannon as the mosquito is hovering so, it’s constantly moving.
The mosquito’s secondary weapon is a grenade launcher. Nothing much. Just the regular launcher from Reach.

So I was think of completely different req ideas and game up with these. I didn’t like the idea of thinking of variants so I wanted to think up some prototype op vehicles with possible down sides.

  • Mongoose - ability to move side ways when holding in the left trigger - Warthog - with change able weapons from rockets to chain gun - Scorpion - smaller variant with faster moving capabilities, change able weapons from turret to shell fire but there is a very small but noticeable spot to snipe them out of the tank. - Wasp - that glides, has boost abilities to keep it in the air, and has better splatter advantages. - Ghost - that has boost capabilities in all direction - Banshee - that hovers like a wasp and has a slightly smaller banshee bomb - Wraith - smaller variant, that can boost in all directions, has a smaller bomb and change able to turret, also has similar weakness to the tank and can be sniped out.Since promethians have limited vehicles I thought of promethians variants of other vehicles.

  • Phaeton - slightly smaller variant, flies like a banshee and still has its dodge abilities. - Promethian gungoose with the splinter turret - promethian warthogs with phaeton turret or phaeton missiles - Phaeton mantis with all of its fire power and dodge abilities

Attack Hog seems like my favorite out of these. Gravity Flail sounds delightfully interesting, would like to see how this can affect gameplay. I would name the Attack Hog like Rabid Boar or something of the sort.

The Mantis one is a little sketchy in my mind. I don’t want it to feel like something out of Titanfall. It needs to feel like a Mantis. The Mantis in general needs a buff for its stomp. maybe damage or AOE or preferably both. One of the most important features that I completely forgot to add to the Hannibal Mantis was the addition of a thruster pack. This was one of the key features in my mind.

I am also a really big fan of some of these ideas too (namely the first three).

The mosquito is an awesome idea, plus your description is really good.
