Infinite is in an awful position, Halo has been my all time favourite game since it popped up on the xbox (from day1) all those years ago. I remember being around a friends house and jumping on split screen coop to play it for the very first time, it was incredible and the hours we had were unreal. All the way through Halo has been one of the top games for customisation, map creation, cooperative play, game mode and just all out fun, the main thing I have loved halo for over and over and over again was the campaign and the storyline it followed across the games. This was up to halo 5.
Halo 5 was a bit hit and miss, I played it ALOT. There were alot of issues from the start, the campaign was decent and firefight was good but after everything the player base just didn’t seem to be thee. Yes Halo 5 was fun but whilst trying to grind max rank and how much xp was needed to get there, plus the addition of the pack buying it was a real negative, either way I still put in my money but this was greed at the highest level from 343.
Halo Infinite what did they say, this game would cover the next 10 years or something like that? The freedom in the campaign was good but lasted a handful of hours until it was repetitive and no longer fun. The storyline, was alright, I preferred halo 5 and that’s saying something. No coop, the customisation is the worst sort we’ve seen in halo for years (if not ever - granted we’re seeing some improvement but it isn’t where it needs to be yet), no level progression so it feels like you have nothing to push for other than completion of battle passes, they’ve now dropped the coop split screen (this has been a staple of halo since the very start and though may not be used by everyone is one of the most ridiculous decisions they have made and realistically should have been in the game upon release) and the store… The store is just an utter joke and should be laughed at. Whoever was pushing this from 343’s / Microsoft side should really reconsider any involvement they have with this game. The lack of transparency all the way through, how the game was before release, the delays we saw upon release and we’ve barely managed to hold on to a year (bear in mind they said this is a base for 10 years) without losing majority of the player base.
Halo has had an incredible following from start to finish however it is slowly burning out with every new release, with every delay in content and the lack of content, with the lack of transparency, along with the pure greed seen in the last two games, we are seeing less and less people following or playing these games on a day to day basis.
Going back to my original note, the game is in a black hole right now and I really really want it so succeed. I want 343 to be able to pull themselves out and smash this project but when they are putting more focus on adding customisable ears to the store, or whether you can be a male, female or a toaster to try and appease a small % of the community rather than fixing the actual issues or adding to the actual content that should have been there from day 1 (such as coop), is it any wonder over half of the community are frustrated to hell.
343 please listen to the community, reach out to them, hold live YT sessions if you have to where the community can ask whatever they want, be more transparent and honest with us all. If you know months in advance something isn’t going to happen, by delaying the realise of this information you are just building more hope in the community which results in more people being let down. Honesty and transparancy will go along way.
