My opinion on halo 4 what SHOULD BE IN IT ECT.

My opinion- halo 3 kept over 300k for almost two years . halo reach couldn’t keep over 100k for 2 months . reasoning a lack of skill related game play to rank up , too much crap going on EI… armor abilities and jus crap, be really bad and play the game alot you will be the same rank as the greatest player on earth. you need something to set your goals to you need something to strive for. you need every game to matter , every game must take concentration teamwork skill and dedication. the road to 50 in halo 3 kept you playing every day and when you were a 50 you wanted to be one in another playlist. you wanted to have a nice general sign while your buddy has a brigadier with 2 noob bars underneath. you kept playing to get better to get to 50.

In my opinion the halo 3 ranking system with highest skill is what kept the players coming back for more. one loss you could be down a skill one win you could be up a skill. this is what kept the competition so high and the strive to get better. you couldnt stop playing for a week because you could lose your talents get back online and start losing . the road to 50 was so grueling and such a rewarding prize for most . it was more of what you put in your hour not that you put in an hour. i just wanted to see how many agree with me.

Ok kid. Sure Halo Reach totally had a low pop.

I have HALO 3 there is one thing I hate that I don’t want to come back in HALO 4 is how you rank up. I don’t like how you have to win a game to rank up it’s almost impossible. I get like 17 to 20 kills but I don’t win cause my players and my competitors my team sucks but my competitors are good because either they are super good or they CHEAT!

So you’re saying if I play a lot I’ll get 1% onyx?

Halos population has been on the decline for awhile, its been losing out to more casual friendly games.

I assume the OP’s main point is about the ranking system? if so then here we go:

I agree 1-50 should come back (anti-derank/boost, less harsh rank locking) but i honestly do not think it would happen, instead anything eerily similar will be amazing as far as i am concerned.

No matter what the rank system is i hope to god they do not base it on Arena or even incorporate Arena elements into Halo 4’s ranking system (if any…) it looked good on paper but it was (and is) a huge failure, no amount of tweaking can fix it.

1-50 (halo 3), while it did have it’s flaws (boosting/deranking, harsh rank locking) it was far superior to the Arena system for many reasons. It allowed multiple ranked list’s, if you could not play for say a week for example due to lifestyle etc your rank in a particular playlist was where you left it at, you were not punished simply because you couldn’t play. It offered incentive to win and was insanely addictive!

Arena on the other hand just did not work, there is several reasons why and virtually no positive reason’s in the Arena system’s favour. The Arena system was originally Rating’s based, this simply tracked stat’s such as K/D/A which was incredibly flawed, it promoted camping, betrayal for power weapons and absolutely no incentive to win since you could rank up by camping with a power weapon, 4v4 TEAM Slayer was in reality one huge FFA, you competed against the opposing team and your team-mates. The season’s wasnt fun, they simply only allowed for two playlists (now one).

No matter what the rank system may be, it should not be based on K/D as this type of system will only work in a FFA ranked list, Team based game’s must be W/L there is a reason why Microsoft’s TrueSkill system is based on team effort and not individual play (google for more info if interested) and the proof on why K/D system’s do not work has been shown already during the time Arena was Ratings based.

Even when Arena became W/L it still does not work, you have to play as much as you possibly can, if you cannot play for even one single day then in most cases you will rank down, how is quantity over quality a good thing? you could be a great player but only have the time to play on weekends yet an inferior player skill-wise who can play every single day will be ranked much higher, how is punishment for not being able to play a good thing?

Sadly that is true yes, well not quite top 1% Onyx (top 1-2% is largely filled with 2’s trick player’s) but the more you play the better chance you have at a higher rank, especially in the other 98% of Onyx. It’s simply quantity over quality.

Without naming a person (to avoid stat-flaming) in Season 9 i matched up with and vs a top 40% Onyx player, he was honestly terrible, previous season’s had him in iron and nothing higher than that until Season 9, i decided to track his games over a week via B.net and the results didnt come as much of a shock, terrible K/D/A ratio yet he pulled in mostly 10-12 hour day’s on Arena (up to 16 on weekends!) and largely hovered between top 20-40%.

Oh and even with the terrible ratio, tool of destruction was either shotgun or sword. The system is blatanly quantity over quality, how good you are is less of a factor than how much you can play.
