My opinion on Forge

I feel like they did way to much, when we were complaining about Halo 4’s forge being to “noobish” i think they went over board with it on Halo 5. now the controls make me want to break my controller in half. they were trying to make a forge that was for experts and not for new players. and the sad part is there is basically no experts just because of a few tweeks in the controls. i miss the old controls. when they were easier to use. although all of the new features that you can place down are exciting, whats the point if you can’t even place a block correctly. i keep pressing right bumper trying to fly up then i realize that the controls are different. this wouldn’t be a problem if the controls were the same. who came up with the idea on changing the controls? i swear to god this is me learning how to use forge all over again. I’ll try to move a block then i realize that you have to press multiple buttons in order to do so. before you could just press “A” to select the block them bam you can move it. now i couldn’t even tell you how to move a block unless i opened up forge then looked at the controls. is that a good thing? hmm, i don’t know. i really don’t. maybe this is for the better but i doubt it. this is the only way 343 could mess up forge and they managed to do it. I will still try to do forge, but it won’t be fun. i honestly think i saw this coming though, remember when they changed the hornets controls in MCC? yea… we should have saw this coming. well, tell me if you guys think will be able to forge something up. it will take me 2 months to figure this out, but i love forge and i don’t think this will stop me.

The controls are tough to get the hang of, but are far more powerful. I spent an hour with it and still press the wrong buttons. It’s not ‘beginner friendly’ only to someone who’s been forging for years, because they can’t jump right in like they expect. Give someone who’s never forged before a try and I bet they’d be fine, because the controls are frankly way better than before, they’re just new to us. Also quite literally every control is listed in the upper left of the screen. Read through them and give it some time.

The fact is it’s quite ‘beginner friendly’ as all the controls are listed on screen, which no other halo game has done to the extent this one does. It’s just not quite ‘past forger friendly’ Yes you’ll have to relearn forge. But it was worth learning once. Trust me, it’ll be worth learning again.

The controls are garbage… nothing was wrong with the old controls. Forge has not changed enough to add a new control scheme

I disagree entirely. A lot of the new functionality with forge would be a nightmare if not downright impossible with the old controls. Nothing was wrong with them before, but with forge’s new capabilities the new controls are actually quite well designed.

I will admit it would have been better for them to add different control schemes (or just allow a remapping of them). But I’d be willing to bet a lot of money that the majority of players would switch to a classic control scheme, jump in, try to do the new cool things forge can do using the classic scheme, and complain that the controls were dumb and the new features were poorly implemented because they were a neat idea but a pain in the butt to actually do.

Spend time with the new controls. I laughed at how random they seemed at first, but after a couple hours, I’m totally comfortable. The shortcuts you can do with them are fantastic.

I suppose you’re right, the only reason I’m mad is because It takes me forever to learn new controls. I went to play one of the oldest CODS yesterday for 4 hours and i still throw grenades instead of reloading

Haha, dude I totally get it. I felt so useless for the first 30 minutes in Forge. I felt so accomplished when I put more than one piece next to another. But after another half hour I was going much faster, and only getting better from there. Muscle memory is hard to overwrite, but rewarding once you do!

The simple fact that I can zoom out of an object I’m holding is amazing.

You just need to get used to them. It took a little while for me to do so and I created cool little map. You’ll get the hang of it.
