My opinion in the Halo 4 soundtrack.

Everyone is going to criticise me for this topic, but I’ve been thinking about it since it was released. The Halo 4 Soundtrack.

The Halo 4 Soundtrack isn’t as good as I expected. I’ll explain: this soundtrack made by Neil Davidge is one of the most amazing soundtracks in the franchise (fairly better than Reach’s). It has different sorts of songs, and melodic songs, as the previous soundtracks, but I think it’s very generic and might fit any film nowadays.

Marty always added a magic feel that made the soundtrack unique for the game. But in Halo 4, the songs are, as I said, very generic (not all), and most of times, they doesn’t fit in the situation, for instance, Haven. I thought that song was going to be in a cutscene or moment like the one when the Chief sees the estructures in Requiem far away, not in that elevator. The same goes for Awakening, which plays when the Chief jumps to the Lich.

On the other hand, the last mission, when you receive Lasky’s transmission, the music (117) is perfect for me. That’s what I liked: feel the music with the in-game action.

To sum up, I like Halo 4 Soundtrack but for me, it’s not the best in the franchise. Anyway, I understand it’s Neil’s first work with Halo, so he can improve it in the next games.

Don’t hate me, please! It’s only an opinion. I appreciate his work. Your thoughts?

The soundtrack is good, but I don’t think the songs were placed very well in the game.

I completely agree with you. By no means is it a bad soundtrack, but reaching the bar that marty set would be hard. I felt halo reach didn’t have the best soundtrack compared to the previous 3 halo games; they are just something else.

I do feel that there should be something done about the soundtracks in the menu’s. Not only is the UI in the menu’s pretty dire from a HCI perspective (surprised they didn’t work on it a bit harder) but the same song plays over and over, to the point now where it’s actually a bit boring.

I also think sound effects in the game are a bit strange, and inconsistent. The battle rifle sounds hollow for some reason, and the plasma pistol is far too high pitched.

…I’m confused

I quite liked it. You could sort of tell that Marty was running out of ideas towards the end. He did an exceptional job with ODST’s soundtrack then it all got repetitive in Reach. Not saying that he’s a bad music writer, even the best get writer’s block sometimes.

I meant it was very good, but some things made me not liking it at all.

BTW you can also say what are your favorite songs in Halo 4

I liked the Halo theme… oh wait.

Exactly what I think, it could have been much more original and unique.
Also, the placing of the songs themselves in the game didn’t help either.

The Broadsword bit with “117” was just amazing, tho.

It made you feel the motivation of the Chief to stop the Didact whatever the cost and felt like being a Yoinking! 6-feet-tall unstopable force for once in the entire Halo 4 campaign IMO.

He liked it more than any other Halo’s, but expected even more from Neil.

Revival (Didact’s Theme) and 117 are the two best ones.
