I love the whole pistol wielding bit and the run speed remaining pretty normal. What worries me is not being able to drop the flag.
Let me start by saying I’m not a “flag juggler,” it’s just never been my thing, but there are a lot of strategies that involved dropping the flag for one reason or another. What if you have a rocket launcher and you see a Warthog coming your way? Obviously the best tactical decision is to drop the flag temporarily and put a rocket into the vehicle, but now we can’t do that.
Also who can forget Sidewinder from Halo CE? If we couldn’t drop the flag the whole strategy of taking the flag through the tunnels and passing it off to a teammate through the steel bars is suddenly gone. What about grabbing the flag from an elevated position and dropping it to a teammate waiting down below while you fend off the other team allowing your teammate to get away?
I’m sure that not every CTF playlist will make you keep the flag, but its mere existence is troubling for me since I think it eliminates a lot of strategy from the game. I really hope 343 reconsiders this one because I feel it really changes CTF for the worse.
Also I’m sure I’m probably beating a dead horse around here, but I’m only just getting back into the Halo Community in the last week or two so I apologize if what I’m talking about has been talked about to death already.

no customizable option to drop the flag so we’re stuck with infinity CTF.
i find it funny though, one of the reasons they’re doing it is to put more emphazise on the flag carrier but its going to do the exact opposite.
Whoever is playing with randoms, I pray for you.
Didnt 343 learn from FUD what happens if you run too far with the flag without dropping it?
Yup. That and cool tricks like R2/B2 to top mid on Midship are also dead.
It’s laughable.

People already paid attention to the flag carrier, the only difference is that now we are missing a lot of strategies that were once famous in Halo CTF.
I feel like they just wanted to do something new for the sake of doing something new. It’s unacceptable to have a rocket and can’t shoot it at a Warthog barreling at you because you arbitrarily cannot drop the flag.

Looks like you are just going to have to “deal with it.”
For every strategy taken away you have to create new ones instead. Just because the old tricks aren’t there anymore doesn’t mean the game is automatically one dimensional now.

Wow what a nub
I’m bewildered as to how they can seriously believe the changes promote more teamwork and strategy and so on. At best it has the potential to maybe speed CTF games up a little but that could have been achieved through other means.

I really can’t see any new strategies emerging from these changes. It takes many away but adds none in return.

you need the tools to create those strategies.
they’ve taken away the tool that gave us the strategies and did not replace it with a new tool to create new strategies, so its impossible to create new strategies and are instead left with one one-dimensional strategy.

be nice and explain instead of attacking.

What new strategies are you talking about? Flag passing, Stealth caps, flag distractions, baiting, team role changing, aborts… gone! to name only a few. What new strategic options has been added that you couldn’t do already?

This 100 times. I can’t help but feel like Halo CTF got changed way too dramatically with this one small decision.
Halo 4’s Capture the Flag gametype is a huge step back from the gametype we used to know and love. Forcing a team to grab the flag and be unable to drop it is a horrible idea. The idea that whoever grabs it is a forced waypoint while stripping them of all their weapons, in addition to preventing them from doing anything about that, is absurd.
As others in this thread have mentioned, it not only takes away a huge amount of strategies which were once available to savvy CTF players, but it takes away from any desire to grab the flag. You become a huge target to the other team and you HAVE to capture the flag. This means if I am holding a full Rocket Launcher/Sniper Rifle and the flag carrier dies next to me, there’s no way in Hell I’m gonna pick that thing up. Traditionally I could grab the flag for a touch and hand it off to a teammate while continuing to cover him/her, but now I’d be forced to keep the flag which deprives my team of all power weapons and an additional person.
I wouldn’t mind this CTF gametype as an option, much like Speedflag in Halo: Reach, but I certainly think traditional CTF should be included.

Agreed. I personally don’t really want to play Infinity CTF simply because of not being able to drop the flag. Call me purist, or even stubborn, but Halo CTF isn’t Halo CTF if you can’t pass the flag or at least drop it in favor of using your power weapon.

At the very least it will make me not want to pick up the flag when I do happen to play the new CTF.
I really hope we will get the option to reverse these changes in custom games implemented in a title update.

Or at least in Match Making too. I’ll never play CTF in Match Making with this rule.

Really not a fan of that option. Why change something that has been a staple of the series for over 10 years? And why not only change it, but why FORCE it too?
