From a guy who’s been playing Halo since the XBConnect days on Xbox, the Spartan AI is probably one of the worst things I’ve seen in any Halo game.
They don’t take cover, they crouch out in the open, and when they’re not crouching they’re walking and shooting at 2 mph. Frankly, they look like three 1987 Robocops walkin’ around.
It’s a huge letdown considering how Blue Team was portrayed in the books as well as the actions of Team Osiris in the opening cinematic. I understand 343 doesn’t want friendly AI to dominate, but how do you provide a compelling story with characters that honestly look like they’re being controlled by toddlers? How does this not raise red flags with developers? Three years…three years since the release of Halo 4…and this is the Blue Team you deliver. Sad.
What I don’t get is why they are always utilizing their sidearms while keeping their powerful rifles slung. What sense does that make? I watched a segment of the Blue Team mission where the three AI members went through an entire area using only Magnums. Very strange…
It’s not the greatest, but then again I haven’t seen anyone using intelligent commands either. I think that’s the real purpose. Also, I haven’t seen them getting the players killed, they just sort of stay out of the way.

^ This…i haven’t really paid attention to any of the AI gameplay just because i haven’t ventured off this forum and halo channel for my insight into the game, however i believe that the commands is what will really end up making the game. since the beginning of halo: combat evolved i have been getting the game day 1 and the moment it goes into my system, it is solo campaign…legendary. i saw one video (early on) that shows Locke commanding a spartan to pick up a weapon. in legendary you better believe i will be making sure after clearing each zone/before walking into a battle that i will be having my spartans carrying whatever “the best” weapon is for that next particular area (given the enemies faced/what they are currently carrying).

true story. maybe it’s not the AI that crap but maybe people just aren’t utilizing it.
Yeah, they do tend to stay out of the way unless commanded (from what I’ve seen), and to an extent, that’s good. You don’t want to take away too much from a player’s own shoot’em up experience. But similar to what lemon cup said, everything they do is completely unrealistic. Leaps and bounds unrealistic. And for me, the anticipation of having Fred, Kelly, and Linda in the game…the way they’re portrayed in actual gameplay leaves me sorely disappointed with which will be my first experience playing with other Spartan-IIs.

if this is true it will be terrible. but i also believe with H5 going to solo screen only, the people that want to play the campaign co-op will only be the spartan to the best of their own ability. commanding them is highest priority for me. army of two was similar game-based play (only with you and another AI) and making him flank or draw enemy fire was amazing for getting a purpose done…having 3 at my disposal. lets just say I CANT WAIT!!!
Also, I understand what you guys are saying in terms of strategy about how players can use them more efficiently. But I’m talking about movement, dexterity, actions, combat appearance, etc.
We will be able to use Spartan AI strategically, but only because they’re sluggish meat shields with a ton of health. And not due to an actual sense to dodge bullets, move somewhat quickly, and survive.

This. The AI reminds me of that of Republic Commando. If you didn’t use them smartly. They would die easy. Everyone one I watched never used the Spartans this way.
When they tagged enemies. The enemies never died. When they told them to secure a area. They would run there and and take cover.
But when they didn’t use them, they lost them. So you have to use them. Unlike the Reach Spartans, They can die. But unlike The reach spartans, your allies on 5 can actually kill who they shoot at
Huh…would be nice if they reused some of the code from NOBLE Team, however…them, the ODSTs, and a few others on Reach seemed more effective than the IVs in certain cases.
It’s AI
what do you expect?
they were always dumb, remember Kat from Reach?
tsk
so many nitpicking about AI lately
the game has gone gold, can’t change anything.

I heard that one of the dudes that worked in Republic Commando is working on this game. Head something, which is the reason used to explain why you have a team.
One of the things that made RC cool was managing your team. That also became part of the gameplay experience because there were several situations that you could not get through alone. You had to manage where you place your team, when to push, when to fall back, when to focus on something, etc, etc.
Now, i know that none of that is Halo but why put 3 AI helpers that follow you through the whole mission and just have them not do anything but revive you when you get downed? It seems like they are the replacement of Cortana when it comes to dialogue.
If this was their solution for you having no communication with anyone they could’ve easily just had the team break up when the mission starts so they are away doing something else, so it doesnt mess with your experience, and still keep the conversation aspect intact.
One particular gem I saw was during RUL’s coverage of mission 3 at the gate. Buck stopped what he was doing to hop into a warthog and just drove around doing nothing at all during the final wave of enemies. The other characters were all in a warthog of their own, I believe, so it’s not as though anyone was going to join him. He was just cruisin’.

Yeah the A.I. is really crap. Also they they show the same idiotic behavior like in any other Halo game…You and Buck ride a tank. And what are the other two are doing? Correct. One drives a Mongoose and the other one a Warthog (with no gunner) and later they are circling around your tank, doing -Yoink-… smh

NO NO NO, Noble Teams AI was easily worse then anything I have seen from the Halo 5 AI. Kat had the worst driving AI of the series, Jun would shoot you in the back if you tried to melee an enemy and I’ve also seen him unload entire magazines into the empty space around an enemy. and don’t even get me started on Emile’s Shotgun “skills”.

Except they were heavily advertised to be anything but this inept.
Except coop AI is always dumb so you go and get 3 more friends for the purpose of coop campaign.
I don’t see much of a difference negatively if I were to play legendary with the AI. (Every 4 player coop fps/3ps has the exact type of cannon foddery AI)
Besides Legendary has always been defensive gameplay for me.
