My (new) theory on the second level.

Just posted this on Bnet, but hey, this is the heart of H4 discussion.

My guess is the second mission takes place at night, after the Dawn has crashed into the planet, setting the Didact’s Cryptum to standby, and that’s the structure we can see in the distance during the dark, exterior gameplay in the new ViDoc.

Understanding that it’s some Forerunner structure, Cortana directs John there to find out where the hell they are, encountering the Prometheans along the way (note how the same Knight pounce animation shown at E3 now takes place in this dark exterior environment), and she, accessing all the Forerunner -blam!- once in the structure, accidentally looses the Didact('s cryptum).

Thoughts? Note also how the Covenant is all up in this area, and fighting the Prometheans. Looks like we’ll be having three-way battles much earlier than ever in this game. If my theory is correct, of course.

I cant really say that would be that strong of a theory since the chief found the prometheans after the infinity crashed.

I’m fairly certain that the night level we’ve seen so much of is “Shutdown” (The 6th level). This is because there’s a portal in the sky that is being powered by the structure’s that Chief is moving towards. The Covenant seems to really want this portal to stay open, to me it seems like they’re using it to bring more forces onto Requiem, but Chief must stop them not only because of that, but because they also are an opportunity for you-know-who to exit Requiem.

Oh. Alright then.

I’m not too keen on 343 showing us a level so far into the game. We saw half of Halo 3’s levels before launch, that wasn’t good.

I think it’s safe to say that what we saw in the E3 demo can be mostly disregarded, as it has been revealed that the level was changed A LOT since then. If you ask me I think we meet them in the second mission, as it most likely partly takes place at night, and then there’s this picture.

So you were tight in saying that the second level takes place at night, as it partially does.

I think:

1st mission takes place in the ship you wake up in(forgot the name), based off of the gameinformer coverage.

2nd mission, was the E3 campaign preview.

Yes. That was the other thing I was thinking of, but kept forgetting to mention it. Clearly Cortana’s checking out Forerunner logs and whatnot, and loads of Knights appear and John’s all ‘Hurry up, Cort- Ohshi-’ but they just watch, rather than attacking them, because they know she’s inevitably going to wake their master.

I doubt it, I’m thinking that is a later level.

Btw, don’t take the E3 2012 demo as confirmation of their first discovery in that particular campaign level. The E3 2012 demo was, well, just a demo. Often times the final version of the level in the game is very different from the E3 demo.

The E3 Demo takes place 1/3 into the game. Its not the second mission.

And the ship you want is “Forward Unto Dawn”.

I think the second mission will be the scene where he walks up to the cliff edge and looks over… just exploring the new world.

though we all cant be sure since it seems that we might go back to the FUD and the pic you displayed maybe when we do go back

Yeah, just look at the campaign demo they showed off for Halo 2.

Edit: Obviously by ‘they’ I mean Bungie and not 343, but still.
