My New Halo Story

Hello everyone.
So, in a nutshell, I decided to write a Halo Story that takes place in the year 2546, and stars a Spartan III. I’ll copy and paste the first chapter below. Please give me any constructive critism you have :3

Chapter
ONE
1809 Hours, October 16, 2546
San Dimas Nature Reserve, Xesmonoe VII

The two-toed foot of an Elite stomped only inches away from Adam-079’s visor. Adam laid motionless and camouflaged under the leave-filled log that had fallen onto a crevice. The oblivious Elite ordered, or rather barked at the Grunts under its command. The patrol’s insensible language and hostility towards each other reminded Adam of a pack of rabid dogs, all eager for their next meal. Irritated of their chatter, the Elite punched one of the Grunts square in the jaw, loosening the alien’s methane re-breather and sending the creature into a panic. The Covenant patrol then moved on, deeper into the Nature Reserve.
After checking his motion tracker, Adam crawled forward, stood up, and unholstered his 99C-Series 2 Sniper Rifle from his back. The rifle was a little too large for Adam’s preference, but he figured it would aid him the most on his mission.
His priority was to scout out a Covenant invasion party that had reportedly landed in the San Dimas Nature Reserve. However, finding out what the invasion consisted of was the easy part.
Not being detected was the hard part.
The Aliens had set up patrols throughout the area, both by land and air. Squads of Elites and Grunts like he’d just encountered scattered the forest, but Phantom dropships flew over the airspace of plains and open areas. Adam considered both types of terrain to complete the mission on, but made a decision to use the forests due to the lower chance of being spotted.
He headed north to where he believed would be the landing zone. Since, according to his TACTICAL/UGPS on his wrist, was a large, open valley lined with mountains. Perfect for Covenant cruisers since they don’t have to particularly ‘land’ so to speak, and just use gravity lifts to travel to and from the surface. The tall mountains could hide them as well, adding on to their already superior stealth technology.
Some time had passed before Adam had run into another Covenant patrol. Thanks to his motion tracker, he was alarmed the moment they came into a twenty-five meter range. Giving him time to hide, or even attack. After contemplating the decision, he came to the conclusion that sneaking around was probably the best option for him and the sake of the mission, so he hid in a small river bank on his right. The targets finally got close enough to where Adam was able to take a quick glance.
He was relieved to have decided to hide.
Instead of the typical pack of Grunts and low-ranking Elite, the patrol consisted of five Elites. All of them were Zealot-class. Zealots are among the highest ranks in the Covenant, and are often deployed to retrieve artifacts holy to their religion. They can rip Spartans apart, overpowering them with their superior skills and intellect. Just one Zealot could take on three of Humanity’s greatest weapon, the Spartans.
Adam may be a Spartan, but he simply doesn’t have the strength to take all five of them on.
They soon moved on though, fortunately. Out of precaution, he waited a good half-hour before he decided to move again. He had heard cases where Zealots had tricked marines into thinking they had left, just adding to their already infamous reputation.
Adam couldn’t help but wonder why there were Zealots patrolling in the forest. The only thing that he could think of is that they were looking for something.
He decided to pursue them, just to see what exactly they were searching for. However he seemed to have lost them to the forest.

Two hours later, Adam had found the Covenant invasion
force.
Just as he predicted, there were about a dozen SDV-Class Heavy Corvettes hovering in the middle of the valley. He brought the scope of his sniper up to his visor, and saw everything he needed to know.
Six pairs of Banshee ground support aircraft patrolled the airspace, the high-pitched hum that they emitted seemed to fit the name perfectly. Below them was a standing army, consisting of Wraith mortar tanks, Ghost reconnaissance vehicles, Grunts, and Elites. However, what caught the Spartan’s eye was that there was a Field Marshall, giving out orders to the cannon fodder. A Field Marshall was one of the highest ranks an Elite could be given, in fact even higher than that of a Zealot.
Adam figured that he should report his findings to Colonel Kasimir on a secure channel. He tuned the frequency of the radio on his TACTICAL/UGPS before speaking.
“Command? This is Spartan A-079 ready to relay my findings on the Covenant invasion force, acknowledge?”
There was a 5-second crackle of static until Colonel Kasimir responded.
“Acknowledged, Spartan A-079, we read you and are ready for your information, over.”
“There are about twelve or so SDV-Heavy Corvettes stationed in between the valleys of the San Dimas Nature Reserve. They have already deployed a sizeable army onto the surface, consisting of both ground and air forces.”
There was a pause.
“Do you think we will be able to launch a counter-attack?” His voice suddenly got lower, sounding like a mix of depression and hope.
Adam took a moment to think of an answer, but couldn’t come up with anything. “I don’t know, sir.”
Kasimir sighed, “Alright. Your mission is completed, Adam. Move to your extraction point, I uploaded it to your TACTICAL/UGPS. Command, out.”
Moments later the details on his extraction were given to him. Adam would be air-lifted out via UH-144 Falcon, on an open field about five miles south away from his position. However, there was one thing he didn’t like about it. The Falcon wouldn’t arrive until early tomorrow morning, (since night operations were extremely dangerous) meaning he would have to find somewhere to stay for the night.
The Spartan holstered his sniper rifle onto his back and began to head south.
Three hours later, Adam had found himself a small cave that would suit his needs for the night.
Walking in with his M6C/SOCOM silenced pistol in hand, he checked the cave for anything hostile, whether that would be Covenant or not. He turned left to see that the cave dwelled deeper than he had originally thought, but he didn’t have any interest in exploring the rest of it.
Adam holstered his M6C and sat down behind a rock near the cave entrance, out of sight to anything that comes by. The thought of taking off his Mark VI helmet crossed his mind, but he reconsidered. He had grown to be more comfortable in his MJOLNIR armor the more he wore it, and it just felt weird for him whenever he took it off.
Rest was his only concern now.
