My MLG Idea

I got to thinking about what could possibly make MLG more competitive and exciting. I’ve always been a tournament paintball player and there is something we do fantastic in our league that the MLG could easily adopt.

Every tournament we play on a different field layout. This layout is not released until exactly one week before the tournament. This gives everyone the same exact amount of time to practice on that layout. No layout is used again in that year but they can make a reappearance in following years only if there have been noticeable tweaks.

So this is my idea, 1 weak before every event 3 new forge maps are released. They take over the MLG playlist online and of coarse are available for download. This gives an advantage to those who truly work best as a team. In one week you have to develop call outs, game plans, learn weapon and player spawn points and times. The little things like jumps and shot angles.

I think this has the possibility to work great this year since forge will be the best it has ever been. This is only a rough idea but I think there’s potential.

MLG dont take orders from you!

MLG takes order from their creed!

Symmetrical Maps!
Spawn with only a precision weapon!
No AA!
Snipers on CQC Map!

> Symmetrical Maps!
> Spawn with only a precision weapon!
> No AA!
> Snipers on CQC Map!

Umm… yea? I thought that was understood?

Make that two re-tweets! I couldn’t have said that better myself.

That is actually a pretty interesting idea.

Though I don’t think it would fit for Halo… Paintball and MLG Halo, while both ‘shooters’, are quite different games. One is instant hit kill and therefore more based on stealth, the other is based on having a good setup and strategy and communication so that you can teamshoot your foes.

Furthermore, MLG is all about the power weapons and powerups. They completely alter the flow of a map. It makes it more complicated, and the time needed to ‘master’ a map is much longer.

When I compare the MLG tournaments right after the release of Reach to the last one, I notice a huge difference. The gameplay is much more intense and matches are closer. I’m pretty sure that’s because all pros know the maps better after playing them for so long.

So what i’m basically saying is that in order to get the craziest and most intense matches out of a map, we need to have a map that is well-known to the pros. It is also a lot more fun to watch gameplay on a map that you already know yourself. “wow, I didn’t know you could make that jump” or “wow, i didn’t know you needed to hold that position in order to prevent the other team from taking that route” etc.

If the pros have only known the maps for a week, and 3 for example are revealed to them, they would have almost no time to practice on them and matches would become relatively dull. And viewers would have to analyze the map for themselves while watching, instead of just enjoying the high level gameplay.

But that’s just my theory… Who knows, it could do the opposite and bring life to MLG and prove me wrong. But I personally think it won’t.

If you’re complaining about it, then all faith in humanity has been lost.

He’s just telling the absolute truth. Nothing wrong with that!

What truth? That MLG know how to make actual Halo settings better than the people who made the game?

Why? Halo 1’s Prisoner was extremely close quarters, yet it had 2 snipers and a rocket launcher. Same with Damnation, very close quarters, yet it has 2 snipers and a rocket launcher. Also, the map with all the teleporters (that I have disgracefully forgotten the name of) which had rooms no larger than about 10ft^2 had a sniper on it.
Countdown is also considered a small map, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t have a sniper and a rocket launcher. The size of the map has no correlation to what weapons should be on it. Hence why there are massive BTB maps with shotguns just laying out in the middle of nowhere…

Just because you got noscoped by a better player cos you ran in for a beat down doesn’t mean MLG make bad settings.

Someone’s getting a little mad.

All I said was that he was speaking the truth with what he said, no need to write an essay about it.

Not mad at all. Just funny that people come into a thread with MLG in the title and start trashing the settings.

I don’t need to start trashing the settings, because they already are trash.

Well in my opinion every single other playlist (besides Anniversary) have absolutely God-aweful settings, and I can barely play them unless it’s something like multi-team that I can just hop into and go +70 over and over again.

Well, Reach’s community (and 60% of the time, gameplay) is awful. The weapons, vehicles and abilities are not balanced, the maps are awful, and our DLC maps are gone.

Ah well, at least we have something to look forward to in two months, eh?
