Tbh, I have never noticed someone else doing challenges in that way. I assume it happens mostly because I myself do it, but then again most of the challenges at this point don’t hinder the gameplay (in my experience, as of this season).
For ex, if I need to get kills with a certain weapon, I just end up getting better with that weapon and my kda sees little to no detriment for it. Getting high scores, killing oddball carriers or capping hills just happen while winning. If there has been a hindering challenge in my que I may have swapped it, but I don’t recall any.
I ain’t in love with the system, but it def isn’t the hindrance it was in November. As per OP, I earn them if I want the reward. Else, they’re just bonus on top of dailies.

I just did 11 challenges in an hour, and have two on the verge of completion for tomorrow.

I 100% agree with you and it’s something I’m trying to work on. But it’s like with Halo 5’s gold pack system. Some people get addicted to gambling in-game and I guess there were people who spent hundreds in the game to get that one piece or armour they want.
What I’m trying to say is, if people are having problems like that, then there are major problems with the systems in place. It needs to be reworked
