I know that just because ive been around since halo 2 doesn’t make my opinion more important than anyone elses, however this is my current opinion of halo 5
But to start, i have been playing since halo 2, i played competitively, but i guess i was the rare exception where i also enjoyed playing the more fun side of halo, Custom games of all sorts that weren’t based on competitive styles like mlg etc. I thought halo 2 was my favorite, but it turns out it really just was my nostalgia of it and now i realize 3 is my favorite and 2 comes second. Ive liked almost every single halo game or at least tried to like them, i even liked halo reach. To be honest i liked reach alot and even sprint didn’t bother me that much even though i feel halo is better off with out it. Halo 4 was the first time i gained a distaste for anything halo honestly( and i gave it a fair chance, look how much i played it) and im a complete fan boy when it comes to halo. I even appreciate the work 343 did to make the old halo games relevant again. they may have messed up but it happens and they have fixed the majority of issues i had with ihe mcc.
Now onto halo5. Basically to me it feels sort of similar but also alien at the same time. Its like i don’t even recognize the game series ive loved and spent way too much money on over the years. Again sprint has made a comeback, and one of their only reasons to say its there is because they dont want gamers to be confused because “every” modern fps has sprint. Well counter strike GO doesnt have sprint and people still play that every day and the formula has stayed the same well since the late 90s. Sure there are people that complain because hit detection and weapon balance changes a bit, but at its core its still the same game only shinier.
I personally dont like sprint but i can accept it if they really want it in, it just doesn’t seem necessary to me in any way and only detracts from the halo formula. But to me halo5 got it right in a few ways and wrong in so many other ways.
The things they got right.
The weapon balance, To be honest its actually nice to see a halo game where every weapon is actually relevant in situations.
The lower sticky aim, its made the game harder for me but i for one welcome this change.
Clamber, i actually like this to an extent and it feels pretty good to pull off a thruster pack boost and make a large gap.
thruster pack, i like this and it can be used very skillfully
Teamwork, it is actually important now, i can still carry my team but i find it much harder, especially at onyx skill rank. in old halos it was much easier to lone wolf it
The Bad.
Unnecessary changes to sound effects and weapon appearance. Honestly i dont get why changing iconic weapons was a good idea.
Sprint, i know i said i find it tolerable but to me it detracts from the halo experience, i dont really know how to explain it just doesnt feel right, an increased movement speed would be better
Smart link, It makes aiming feel awkward to me and sometimes clunky, especially the dmr
power weapon timers. Yes it makes it more accessible but it takes a skill away and it isnt that great having an entire team know where you are because the marker disappears when you grab it.
Kill times, People say its similar but i just feel far too weak and easy to kill, almost impossible to counter someone, but it is doable and ive gotten reversal medals quite a lot
Grenades, i really dont get why people are saying nerf them, either they bounce too much or they are too weak because i find it insanely hard to get kills with them, in halo 2 i was amazing at bouncing them and knowing when they would explode
Im not saying give me Halo 3 again, even though i would love that, but atleast try and make it feel more classic halo
