I just want to add my voice to the growing chorus of gamers that are in utter disbelief at how bad the launch of the Master Chief Collection has went. I, like many of you, pre-ordered my physical copy of this game weeks ago with visions of a 24 hour Halo fest on launch day dancing in my head. I bring my Xbox One to my friends house and we put the game in and sit down on the couch eagerly awaiting the Halo logo to show up on screen. Now, keep in mind that I just bought my Xbox One barely a week ago exclusively for this game. My friend who still only owns an Xbox 360 even bought his own Xbox One controller so we could play multiplayer together. Imagine the fun we end up having seeing that 343 industries decided that the first game to install slowly should be Halo 4 campaign. What? We both already own this game on 360 so where is at least the Halo 2 campaign? Well, that portion ends up installing next to last almost 3 hours later. Thanks. The full multiplayer ended up taking almost 8 hours to install so there went our fun evening of gaming. I guess in the end it would not have mattered. I tried it the next day when I got home from work and the multiplayer was/is extremely broken which leads me to some points I want to rant on.
First, this game is supposed to be Microsoft’s ace in the hole, The can’t fail system seller going into the Christmas season and this is the best they could do? There should have been more than enough time for extensive stress testing on multiplayer BEFORE launch. Even if they finally get this game patched correctly and the server issues fixed, this will still go down as the worst Halo launch ever and a serious black eye for Microsoft at a time when they are far behind Sony in system sales. Not to mention that this seriously damages the faith that gamers have that 343 industries can manage the Halo franchise as well as Bungie did.
Second, a 15gb download for everyone before they can play multiplayer is extremely short sighted on Microsoft’s part. Then they make it worse by only allowing those that pre-ordered a digital download of the game to pre-download the patch/update. Why should it matter who downloads the patch? It should have been open to anyone who wanted it. What can you do with the patch if you didn’t buy the Master Chief Collection? How did they not realize that by limiting those who could access the pre-download patch that the servers hosting this patch/update would be absolutely traumatized by the amount of people trying to download this on launch day? They didn’t care that hundred of thousands of Halo fanatics were taking a day off just to play this game in multiplayer only to be stuck waiting for a download that takes half the day, or worse yet, never finishes? What about all the people like me that bought an Xbox One just for this game? Unbelievable!
Third, supposedly, the multiplayer issues were obvious to those that watched the twitch stream of the pro teams playing multiplayer before the MCC game launched. Which, If true, would explain why they held the multiplayer portion back after the campaign portion went gold. They could not release it because it was a buggy mess and they were trying to fix the multiplayer portion right before launch day! I am sure they were not allowed to delay this game because of multiplayer issues even if they wanted to because the Master Chief Collection has to be out there selling Xbox one consoles for Christmas! This is what happens when Microsoft forces a launch date down a developers throat ready or not!
Anyone having better luck connecting since last night? I just don’t understand how they could not have known there would be issues before they launched this game. Isn’t that what play testing is for?
Interesting but did MS make them make an hour long documentary about cut scenes?
Not to mention there are still serious bugs and issues being reported with the solo campaign games.
I honestly do appreciate the effort that went into making a game of this magnitude, but if it wasn’t ready then it should not have been released, period.
I mean any way you look at this it makes 343 Industries look bad. Either they knew there were single player bugs and major multiplayer issues and released the game anyways or they had no idea of any of this and that makes them look borderline incompetent. Again, it is strange to me, that with the full backing of Microsoft and the budget they had for a AAA title that there should be the kind of issues we are experiencing. I know some of the work on MCC was farmed out to other studios but ultimately 343 Industries and Microsoft are responsible for what they released and when it was released.
This is why you need a beta!!!
I feel you with the installation part. I pre-loaded it and it made me reinstall the entire thing at 12:01. couldnt play until the next day.
I agree that this should have had a beta build that was open to Xbox live accounts with a history of playing Halo online. I think the sample size of hand picked pro players or 343 industries employees was just too small. The only real way to stress test the servers and find out if the multiplayer is actually going to make it in the real world is with a LARGE amount of players on the servers. Large, as in tens or hundreds of thousands of players! I remember Bungie offering players a chance to play beta builds to get problems fixed before the game was released and even 343 industries is offering it for Halo 5. What happened with this release is horrible and I personally don’t think it is going to be a quick fix. If 343 knew exactly what was wrong wouldn’t they come right out and say what exactly the problem is? All we keep reading right now is that they are “working around the clock and are aware of the issues”.
Please post in the Discussion Forum
This might be in the wrong section but there many other threads like it in the Halo Support section. A mod can move this to the Discussion Forum if they want.
so many rants. such entertainment
I am ranting and admit as much in the title to this thread but I feel it is much deserved in this instance. This is a AAA title with Microsoft’s full backing and it comes out of the gate looking like a third party low budget buggy mess. Unacceptable!
Anyone got an update on multiplayer matchmaking? Is it better than the 20+ minutes to find exactly nobody that I was experiencing yesterday?
I keep reading people on this forum saying to give 343 industries a break because fixing all these problems with the Master Chief Collection takes time. I say that is exactly why they should have done a better job testing all this before it was released so that those fixes that take time could have been done on their time! Again, I bought a $350 console and a $60 game just for the Halo experience. So far, that experience has been horrible. I am sure at some point this game will be fixed but when? A week from now? A month? Who knows? There are so many bugs and glitches being reported in the campaign mode let alone multiplayer that I can not comprehend they will have this game totally fixed any time soon.
Why does everyone need to post this? WE ALL KNOW IT’S BROKEN, 343I knows it’s broken! This extra ranting just brings down morale, it serves no purpose to rant among everyone else.
They will fix it. Your money isn’t wasted, you didn’t buy a useless game, IT WILL BE FIXED!

My money was wasted, until it is fixed.
I did buy a useless game, until it is fixed.
Not completely useless. There is campaign, but even that only works half the time.

I agree. Reading thread upon thread about this is getting old. It’s broke, move on. We don’t need 4,893 threads a day about how much this sucks. I wish all these threads would be deleted…

Of course I understand that it will be fixed at some point but how does that make up for what has already transpired? People like me are ranting because they put a lot of hard earned money into this game and the console to play it and it has not been working now for two days! Like I stated in my initial post, I took time off of work to play this game. There are a large number of people that bought an Xbox One just for this game and then stayed home on launch day to play it. People invited friends over, spent money on snacks, extra controllers, beer, etc and ignored wives and/or girlfriends for this game and for what? To sit there and spend the entire night downloading a broken 15gb update! It is no different than buying an expensive front row ticket for you and a friend to your favorite sports game that had taken you weeks to save up and plan for and then being told that your favorite team can’t play so come back on a different day. The point is that even though the ticket is still good it is a major inconvenience to re-plan everything and more than likely you would be upset and demanding a refund. Maybe that isn’t the best example to explain why I am upset, but in the end, I feel it is not good enough to be told to just be patient and don’t be upset about what happened because they are doing the best they can.

I get that, I took off three days and bought two cases of beer. But you know what? I got three days off and two cases of beer. I mean -Yoink-, we all know it’s broke. Stop posting you’re own thread. We’re all going through the same thing. We all get it.
