I have a theory that could possibly hold some relevance. Maybe. Or maybe i’m just a fool, I don’t really know.
But it involves the deep space anomalies from hunt the truth. Across each of these episodes, these “anomalies”, as they were described, began becoming more and more prominent as the story went on. From Mishack’s brief mention at the start, to communication with the outer colonies getting completely cut off, and finally Ben coming face to face with the “anomaly”, within the ONI base; nearly corrupting his datapad.
The more obvious assumption would be that ONI was trying to break up communication in order to halt the spread of leaked information, attempting to divert a civil war. But what if there is more to it than that? What if the truth is much more sinister. After pondering this query for a while, and looking through other peoples ideas, I thought of something. The anomalies had started occurring long before the ONI leaks had even happened. Why would ONI be corrupting data in the outer colonies without any reason? Why did Katrina’s city block start losing power right before all communication was cut? And right before her entire system was overrun with corrupted files? The answer is simple. ONI weren’t responsible. At least not entirely.
So I began thinking of any possible candidates that could possibly pull this off. And that would benefit from it. I came up with this; what if the epidemic of data corruption across the outer colonies was a result of the flood’s logic plague? There is still a lot about the flood that we don’t truly understand, namely their full capabilities. They have been known to, “corrupt”, forerunner AI’s. The major one being Mendicant Bias. It could possibly explain why ONI would sever comms to the outer colonies; to stop the spread of the logic plague. Like a Quarantine to a virus. And there you have it.
Maybe this theory is a little far-fetched and I am just a fool. I really don’t know
But here it is. My idiotic theory.
EDIT:An alternative to the flood in this theory could possibly be the Didact. He was composed, after all, and it could very well be him. Another more unlikely candidate could be Guilty Spark. he was last seen having taken control of an ONI ship and could be involved somehow.
This sounds awesome. I hope the story is something like this. Honestly it makes sense that Oni is not responsible for any of the data corruption. It has to be something else (like you said, Mishack mentioned data corruptions before Ben even started really taking shots at ONI)

Exactly. And it would be the perfect time for for the Flood to creep it’s way in as the entire galaxy is divided by civil war. (Both the Covenant and now humanity)
I’m impressed at how many plates 343 have got spinning in the air at the moment. ONI vs the Insurrectionists (notably Zane), the Flood returning to judge us, the Composed Didact, Jul and Halsey closing in on the Absolute Record, Guilty Spark absconding with a human ship at the Ark, whatever the Librarian did to John, Blue Team running off on a secret mission… it’s difficult even to list all the possible suspects behind this data corruption, let alone figure out which of them is responsible.
It’d better not be Cortana.
Spark was the first to come to mind when his light starting “glowing brighter.”

it could very well be Spark, I mean it’s completely possible. But the question remains as to what his motivation would be. Both the Flood and the Didact have clearer cut agendas. And that would be causing destabilization within humanity, with the eventual intent of wiping them out.

I am also impressed, but I do miss Cortana. I really do…
If I could keep her for the halo series I would, her witty phrases and companionship is one of the things I remember most from halo games.

Personally I think the game should focus more on the other characters, like Blue Team, and less on Cortana; at least until Halo 6. Then again maybe it’s just me.
H5 could even even go back to the roots of halo lore and have insurrectionists as the enemies. Or even a mix of all enemies, who knows. Only one week left to find out anyway!

Cortana is either with the Gravemind or with the Librarian’s AI. Or even maybe imprinted on John’s Geas. Maybe the Librarian imprinted her on him.
I would like it to be Guilty Spark or even Mendicant Bias. It seems like a good way to justify the hackings and corruptions, not to mention the appearance of the Forerunner AI in Hunt The Signal.

Yes. I think that would be the obvious assumption, but at the same time, I don’t know if the Chief would be willing to fight insurrectionists knowing their reactions are justified. Locke possibly would, he does work for ONI after-all ,but at the same time he detests their methods. Not to mention his mission is focused on finding the Chief and not to get involved in civil war as far as I know.
Which brings us back to ONI. The way hunt the truth has unfolded makes me think that ONI could be the main antagonist within Halo 5; at first. Then the Flood or Didact, being the hidden threat, comes in later on. And ONI is cutting off communications to by itself some time. Things are probably about to get very chaotic in the galaxy. And if this division continues, Humanity and the Covenant will be hopeless to stop it.

Ah yes. Mendicant Bias could also very well be responsible.
This sound awesome, but there is something that I have thought of. If the logic plague is the Flood and it is effecting system all over the outer colonies then why isn’t it effecting any of the covenant systems? After all the Flood was both humans and covenant. If the logic plague was effecting systems would the elites, or what remains of the covenant be asking the ONI or UNSC about it and trying to figure out what is wrong.

Maybe they are and ONI is covering it up? ONI isn’t exactly known for Human-Alien relations.
Also the Flood is known to be selective of who it infects, as seen in one of the forerunner books, when they chose to spare humanity and focus there attention on the forerunners. And also in the Forerunner saga, The Primordial stated that humanity would stand trial when they became ripe with arrogance. Who more arrogant than ONI?

When I heard that part about the light I had a feeling that it’s BB. He was always pretty torn about the Spartan program and he grew attached to Naomi, even felt bad for her. Plus, BB was likely more powerful than Cortana, according to himself; since he was made using the same method only with better technology. Or maybe The Assembly is keeping tabs on Ben and they’re finally intervening.
Flood it is then. That would be an excellent story twist
One of the better theories I have read regarding HTT. Hoping you’re right!
Anyone suggest that the data corruption could be the rampant Smart AI Iona? As she is being processed to be “decommissioned” and is being discussed in Halo: Saint’s Testimony, to continue to “live”.

Thanks. But I really wouldn’t get your hopes up because it could definitely turn out to be something else, I do think the flood would be a cool twist though.
