My inexplicable and spontaneous death in the wraith on asphalt?

4 or 5 times now in serparate BTB games on asphalt I have been in the Wraith and been “killed” instantly, but by what is unclear. More than once these have resulted in the Wraith spinning and elevating over the walls of the map. Sometimes I am told I “committed suicide” and sometimes my death is credited to another player?

Has anyone else had this experience AND does anyone know anything about it?

Thanks in advance.

Yes this is a known error on this map and the creator of the map is well aware of the issue. Unfortunately it cannot be rectified and is more of a Forge error than a design error. Luckily this rarely happens, maybe 1 percent or less of all games on this map.

Thanks Angus, I appreciate your taking the time to answer. That said, while this spontaneous death has happened to me a number of times (2x in one game on 2 occasions) I never have seen it happen to anyone else. Do you know; Is the error partially a question of perspective, perhaps similar to lag, that only affects players piloting the Wraith?

It’s happened to me; once in a Wraith and once in a Revenant, and I have a great connection.

It is a Forge problem, not a map design problem.

Nothing you can do to prevent it.

@ Little Moa: So far it’s been exclusive to vehicles. While I cant Fix it, if I stay out of vehicles do you know if that would eliminate the problem?

My understanding is that it’s only Covenant vehicles that are susceptible to the glitch so you should be able to joyride in the UNSC vehicles all you want with no worries.

Or run around on foot, that works too!

Happened to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqolGwlmJYA&feature=plcp&context=C4838e05VDvjVQa1PpcFOa7S8kEh1sJFP7Ilgl4s5EJ0AfVa9Aa7Q=

Indeed. My best guess is that the Covie vehicles in Reach actually have a physically-simulated antigravity effect, rather than just using an oversized hitbox to give the appearance of floating.

Yeah, it’s happened to me a few times. I usually tend to avoid vehicles on that map, but it’s been better about not spontaneously flipping out on me the past couple of times!

Hey guys!

Unfortunately this isn’t a problem that can be rectified. As far as I understand, it’s a built-in game error which happens based on some unknown geometry error when combined with covenant vehicles and possibly lag.

It can happen in any map, but seems to be more common(Though still relatively rare) in Asphalt for one reason or another. Many players blame the Coliseum Wall floors, but in fact any forge block can cause this.

This glitch has also happened to players outside of vehicles in rare instances; One of my friends got launched up into the sky by a pummel for instance.

It seems to happen more frequently in lagging games, and based on what I’ve seen and read I think it’s related to data transfer. It seems almost as if the victim’s game data is incorrect relating to vehicle position, and so when the new data comes through from the host, it causes a sort of “grind bounce” to move you to the new location. The results are often spectacular.

I’m hoping that this is remedied in Halo 4, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Hmmm… never getting into a wraith now…
