So i’ve just finished playing 5 games of infection and i have to say i’m underwhelmed. I didn’t expect it to be super great but it just doesn’t feel right for me. To elaborate i’ll explain some of the reasons why i think so.
The movement system, i feel that the movement system is somehow fundamentally different from the other playlists beginning with the missing sprint for infected followed by the low gravitiy for infected and coming to a close with the bad working clamber. I feel the clamber impacts my gameplay the most because i just don’t know anymore if this ledge will enable me to clamber up onto it or not. Objects and ledges that allow clambing in other gamemodes do not in infection. This really ticks me off and irritates me while playing. All in all the movement in infection escpecially the infected movement just doesn’t feel right to me.
The weapons. There was a lot of discussion about weapon pickups on the map and the starting weapon being the assault rifle and shotgun. So after 5 games i can say that some of the weapon pickups do not affect gameplay a lot, some however do so significantly for example the saw is a beast in this gamemode equaling a portable turret in infection, my recommendation remove most of the pickup weapons or change them to pistols or something, that’s the weapon we all want the most in this gamemode. The starting weapons on the other hand feel a bit unbalanced, while the shotgun is perfect for close range the assault rifle severly lacks the ability to kill targets on range without wasting a lot of ammuntion. My recommendation for the starting weapons : either give us a real range weapon that can succesfully place aimed shots or give us a assault rifle that is more suited to killing on range.
The maps. So far i’ve played on 5 maps 3 were infections versions of Riptide, Overgrowth and Plaza the other 2 being the oil rig or something like that and the other being the foggy outdoor map. For starters the new maps don’t look very good, some objects on it look like they were glued together by a 5 year old ( for example the bridges on this foggy map or the helicopter on the oil platform ) , adding to that they don’t play super good either, atleast from my point of view. It didn’t matter if i was zombie or survivor i never felt that the maps were really good for infection, in fact on some maps it felt like they made it so bad just to give the survivors a higher chance for survival.
The remixes don’t feel that good either, 343 just placed crates and beams everywhere as to obstruct fast movement. Often enough this doesn’t hinder the zombies as much as it hinders the survivors. Another issue that came up while playing on these maps is the aforementioned lack of range if you don’t find a better weapon than the assault rifle. A lot of the maps feature long sightlines and tight entrances to the rooms, which can be one hell to get through if you are a zombie but on the other hand as a survivor i wished many times for a weapon with which i could stop the zombies with precision shots rather than pumping the hallway full of bullets. As a zombie this whole scenario is sometimes even worse because of this strange movement mechanic the zombies got. I often wanted to use secondary routes into rooms and hideouts of the survivors but was bocked because the movement system is super stupid sometimes. A lot of the ledges that are on the new maps are often made so you cannot climb up on that spot which further limits your movement possibilities. I felt like the way the maps were constructed in combination with the strange movement ruined infection for me so far because i cannot use the pathways i want to because the game doesn’t let me, but the path itself is SUPER obvious, it’s iike they implemented that path just to troll you.
Overall i am not satisfied with infection. I will play some more another time and maybe post a revised review of this gamemode.
By the way i stil had lags in every game despite changing my search settings to focussed, so much for the matchmaking options
the movement is perfect in terms of speed and gravity and spartan abilities. It’s exactly what you should expect from infected. Sprint would make zombies OP.
Weapons… you don’t want the pistol to be increased in the quantity. An average pistol user dominates by his/herself when it gets picked up. Second… the AR is an AR, you’re supposed to burst fire at range, or not fire at all. Wait until the zombie is closer.

If you still had ammo left for the shotgun in that video you wouldn’t have even used the AR … really bad example if you want to teach me how to use my AR in infection
At least it doesnt have spartan charge, which didnt make me uninstall forever, but i didnt have fun, power weapons made me really angry because now i have to compete for them, i cant believe they took fun out of it, just like the took fun out of grifball with spartan charge, if they fixed TMCC i would never play halo 5 again
I played two games and i will never play again…everything that made infection cool on reach was that fact that zombies were OP and able to “roll”. No sprint… im not playing another fail for 343. Basically a skin pack update for me. Griffball gone more fail.
I don’t mind the infection dev maps, the community ones on the other hand are a little too campy, the oil rig has the outer platforms, the mall has the one room, and the mining town has the ridge, the crypt doesn’t seem to campy atm, that might change though

We are talking about the AR, right? I used it, got a killtac without using the shotty (blowing my last round). I say not having any ammo in shotgun means there’s more pressure to be accurate and efficient with my AR because you’re right, I WOULD have switched to my shotty had I had ammo. But since I didn’t, I had to use a mix of burst fire, thrusts, timely reloads, and efficient aim to get my 5 kills. How to use AR in infection 101 class dismissed.
Edit: AND I had to use good positioning (thrusts played a role) to land seriously high risk melees (zombies, duh). #KeepCalmAndThrust
Me and my company have been playing infection since it came out and are having loads of fun. The clamber situation is certainly annoying and so that is definitely an issue, i think the movement speed for the infected is balanced and makes for interesting game play. Although it is frustrating when you spawn far from the survivors and you have to essentially walk back. I thought the weapon spawns were quite good actually, and they all have limited ammo so they’re more like kill streak rewards if you find them. They’re also comical in some aspects, that foggy outdoor map you mentioned has a rail gun in the house… a rail gun? :’)
I can’t remember the name of the map but its a forge made community map with a sliding door that can be closed with the use of buttons, that map has the CE pistol on it and i go for that every time and can go on crazy kill streaks. Ended up being last alive with infinite ammo just popping the infected as they ran towards me. Overall infection is loads of fun but I’m sure it could be refined in some aspects, yet to really figure out what those aspects are though.
Yeah I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve played of it so far. The first game I had i was infected, and was absolutely terrible, only got one kill! Still had fun.
I managed to pick up a magnum and I agree with people who say it is better as a pick up instead of a starting weapon as it can become a powerful anti-infected gun due to head shots.
