My imagination for Customisable Load outs and Perks.

By now most of us have heard that Halo 4 will include these features. Now what i wanted to do with this post is just share the vision i have of these aspects, and my view on their best interpretation. I would rather this doesn’t become a Halo 4 hate thread, and i would prefer people avoid saying that “Halo is a game about starting equal.” I understand this, and agree, but now we have this information there is nothing we can do about it, so if you could avoid flaming, it would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, i think the word “perks” doesn’t represent the feature appropriately, i think it leads people to believe a call of duty type system. I disagree. Let me explain, what if every piece of armor changed your stats slightly. So for instance, knee guards changed your movement speed or agility, in different ways. None would be better than others, just different. If you started with knee guards that gave you a 5% bonus to sprint, when you later unlocked knee guards that let you strafe faster, that may be cool and all but you lose your speed bonus. This might slightly alleviate the balance issue of higher level players dominating the battlefield. I imagine these to be minor changes for the most part, that just play towards your play style a little. What if also though they had downsides, so a big chest plate would increase your health (after shields so a skilled player would take off the shields and still be a able to finish you off with a head-shot), but your movement speed was decreased. This could be extended to hit box changes as well, so you have a larger body hit box but you can take more damage.

The final thing that occurred to me was the visor. What if the markers on the HUD that show a player where the power weapons are was a helmet specific ability. This helmet would give no other bonuses, a experienced player would be able to time the power weapon drop, so would still have a distinct advantage. A more advanced player would also be able to you’s a helmet with another advantage, balancing out the bonus to newer players.

The next thing is the customizable load-out. I imagine something like gears of war when it comes to this, a choice of primary and secondary weapons from a choice of three or four weapons. This would hardly change anything, in some game-types in other halo games you could spawn with BR primary, AR secondary, would it matter if you could choose which is your primary? Anything remotely powerful would remain on the map for pickup. Then you would match that load out with an armor set, like i talked about above. If armor abilities are in the game, you may be able to choose this too.

Remember, this is just my imagination for the system. I understand it goes against some core halo principles, but if this was the way they implemented character customization, i would not be too upset. Anyway, please share your opinions, i would be happy to add these to the OP for other to see.

TL/DR
If you don’t want to read the post, you might as well not bother replying, i can’t summarize my ideas, so if you don’t want to read, go. I won’t hold it against you.

There are no perks in Halo 4.

I’m fine with the loadouts as is. But your idea isn’t bad either. And your perk idea is interesting I would be fine with perks if they were laid out in such a way as you have stated.

At lease you are optimistic

I think if this is the case…getting very minimal upgrades is ok for SOCIAL playlist, not ranked! 1-50 playlist should be all even, but still being able to unlock special changes in armour for social and visual effects. Lets say ur friend is a 50 in Snipes and u just started at a 1, you go in against 42, 44, 47, 49 and they have all the armour abilities it makes it impossible to be an even playing field, but social is alot of randominess and should be allowed in social but not RANKED! Imo i believe 343 has hinted that there will be AA’s for people who achieve things, but not such a huge advantage like in reach! Very minimal armour changes like looks, extra speed (not in sprint tho), being able to tell where weapons are of your choice. like u have 1000 headshots with snipe, you get the ability to turn on this to show were the snipe is! Remeber MLG and pro players are helping with this game to a certain extent, and AA’s are not good in that community (which I am on their side on this), but i do believe in minimal AA’s for progression and reaching a goal in the game for looks and minimal advantages in social is a very good way of making all fans happy. Social players and competive players! Bcuz we can all agree on one thing, H2 and H3 didnt have AA’s and are margines ahead in gameplay than Reach!

If I got this right, Armor parts do now have some sort of gameplay change, right?
The only way I see these armor parts affecting gameplay without changing the core gameplay of Halo is by having them for HUD customization. For example: wearing one armor type would add a compass to your HUD. Another armor part could change HUD color. Other parts could show info about opponents that are infront of you. For example: one armor part might give you the ability to see how much shield the guy in front of you has. Another armor part could show an icon that indicates what weapon he has and how much ammo is left on it.
I dont want to win/lose a BR battle because I/the opponent had the armor part that improved strafe speed.

i dont like any of those ideas. the whole armor unlock thing is just sooooo not halo. it should be looks and looks only.

I agree, these things should be social only. One thing i noticed, is that one of the game types in the vidoc said BR slayer, the idea of load outs for weapons contradicts this, so maybe load-outs won’t feature weapon choices, or maybe there is that divide between social and ranked. I hope that if 343 does make these changes, they have the appropriate place off launch for competitive player that wish to avoid these changes, Reach wasn’t a bad game but the lack of a competitive space off launch other than the shocking arena drove many early adopters away, who couldn’t wait for classic and MLG, neither of which were great anyway.

The thing to stress here is how minimal i think the game changers should be. The idea of making your player stronger appeals to me in a way, it’s a great drive to rank up, and seeing you beat an enemy in a battle with your hard earned armor gives a great sense of accomplishment, but that is far outweighed by the frustration of imbalanced gameplay. Also, while this fit in some games, halo has always been known for it’s more balanced even gameplay. I would rather 343 air on the side of caution for Halo 4, to draw back lost players, but i guess we’ll have to wait and see.
