I really don’t like the challenge system in Halo Infinite. I don’t like a single this about it. I don’t like challenges so much that I almost never do any challenges. So I’ve spent a lot of time thinking how I would like to see challenges be overhauled. And I feel like I’ve come up with something good.
Challenges need to be able to be completed is any (or almost any playlist)
There needs to be different kinds of challenges e.i… finding something, doing something, achieving something, something goofy
Have the ability to be completed without intention
Don’t feel grindy or insurmountable
Serve to compliment performance based progression
All challenges need to be available and ready to progress
Let me explain
Point 1, 2, 5, and 6 are probably the most important! No one likes to be forced to play a specific map and mode to do a challenge. So any challenge should be able to be completed in any playlist or almost any playlist. So for instance a challenge should be able to be completed almost every arena playlist, ranked or not, and BTB.
Having challenges like, get a kill within 10 seconds of dropping a weapon, deal chain damage with a shock weapon, or send players for a swim. And add goofy ones one, like fall from a fun drinking spot (bar) to a dangerous ally, find a note left by an unruly grunt on (insert map), or collect relic fragments on (insert map). Really just stuff that to make gameplay more interesting and less restrictive. Additionally, being able to progress any of the challenges at anytime would improve the experience. Having to do a few before getting to the rest is incredibly frustrating, especially when I only have so much time that week and want to be efficient with doing challenges.
I also think that weekly rewards should just be dropped all together, because let’s face it, the weeklies are awful and uninspired. I think that instead, there should be one armor set a month, and challenges that release weekly AND STAY available throughout the season. Have the rewards for the armor split and the conditions for unlocking each portion is for instance, complete x amount of weekly challenges to unlock the right hunter shoulder ect…
Just as a bonus, the event need a serious rethinking. They should be a combination of themed map changes and rewards that can be unlocked in any order and have a challenge associated with each reward. And challenges swaps and xp boosts should just go in the recycling bin imo.
Convert score points directly into XP (scaling the payouts appropriately),
Replace the current boring grindy challenges with much more fantastic achievement-esque feats of daring and dedication deserving of a big payout, such as “Get big air with a Scorpion tank” or “Mid-air grapple an aerial vehicle” or “Two kils, one sniper round”. Things that are difficult to do intentionally, but when they happen, you’ll be stoked and rewarded handsomely.
But it still has the problem is that people will go into the game and spend all their time trying to hijack said vehicle (even from team-mates) and then do the challenge.
I see that one of the principles of challenges is to get people to try different playlists.
But instead of “Play ‘x’ five times”… they could have “Play games in 3 different playlists”. And that way players could at least choose how they spend their time.
Even “Win games in 3 different playlists” wouldn’t be as bad as having to play to win in a playlist you don’t like.
I’m all for the cumulative damage or score challenges.
eg. “Do 3000 damage in a single slayer type game”.
eg. “Earn 15 medals in a single game”.
Instead of specific weapons - make it a weapon type or group.
eg. Deal 1500 damage with shock type weapons or grenades
eg. Get 5 long distance kills (30m or more).
eg. Get 10 kills with power weapons.
eg. Get 15 grenade kills.
Encourage players to improve;
eg. Get 10 headshot kills.
eg. Recharge your shields 15 times.
eg. Get kills with 8 different weapons.
Things like that should be commendations, or at least not time-sensitive. That’s my main issue with the challenges. For instance, I’ve only ever landed 1 Quigley, and it was a total accident.
That is a bit to high. I have had matches where i got half the total kills for my winning team (so 25 or more) and still didn’t get 3000 damage. So that amount is just not realistic, especially for the average player. Don’t forget the challenges need to be done in such a way that average players should also be able to do them.
I am more in favour of a total amount of damage or ‘score’ and not just in 1 game.
Basicly same as above, seems a bit to much. Perhaps would be better if it was a total amount of medals and not per match (number can be a bit higher then).

This would just encourage people from fleeing a fight and leave their teammates alone… Would result in another challenge that encourage bad teamplay.
Just instead of specific weapon challenges, make it by weapon type. Kinetic weapon, Plasma weapon, energy, and power weapon challenges. It makes more flexible picks without fighting for a single weapon while still forcing you to play a certain way like 343i wants.
simple solution. do it in a winning match. however, trying to win btb with its random game design must send people crazy though. winning btb is a lottery
The challenges should be playlist dependent so at least you can play what you want and get challenges without being forced into game modes you don’t want to play just for challenges. With the exception of special event playlist/challenges. Also have xp like MCC where it’s medal based and the challenges are just bonus xp.

But i agree, they must stop with those playlist specific challenges. I am an (slightly above) average player, so i do not want to be forced to play Team Slayer, Tactical Slayer, FFA and ranked, because those playlists are dominated by mostly above average players, so it’s hard to find matches against people your own skill. On top of that i don’t like Tactical Slayer and FFA in general.
So when i saw this weeks challenges, i am already extremely frustrated at the game, because most force me to play long times in those playlists. In total i have to get:
10 FFA kills + complete 2 matches (but can’t do them at the same time ofcourse…)
115!!! kills in Team Slayer
70 kills in Quick Play
70!! kills in Tactical Slayer
75 kills in Fiesta
This is just extreme… The few challenges that don’t force me to get kills in those specific playlists are also not good: 2 flag captures (you can’t chose that mode), 3 enemies killed that are attacking your zone (can’t chose that gamemode), 10 pulse carbine kills (that weapon is extremely bad in killing), 1 ally saved from far. The 3 that challenge that aren’t bad (play 4 matches, 1 back smack and melees) just don’t make up for this crap.
I am already so frustrated with this BS, that i ain’t gonna play the game this week. I love going after challenges, but not if it is just like this just trying to punish the players… Never had such bad challenges.
And how far is 30m in game anyways? As far as I know, there isn’t a rangefinder on the HUD. This is basically the same problem as “Get Guardian Angels”
Would self/team damage count? Could just drop a grenade at your feet at spawn. Either way this on isn’t that bad since it translates to, “Win gun fights and survive long enough to heal”.
