My idea for future Halo games ranking systems.

With the recent changes made to Halo 5 ranking where you can now drop a rank/full tier…

-Ex: if you just got to Diamond 1 and then lose, you can now become Platnum 6.

It it got me thinking. Why not just bring back a polished form of the iconic competitive ranking system from Halo 2 or Halo 3 (preferably influenced by H3 with exp tracking/progression)

Personally I feel that the classic 1-50 style of ranking was the best solution to having ranked games and social games, Halo 3 did it best in my humble opinion. To an Extent, you could play the game how you wanted… Social was stress free fun with friends and ranked was obviously more competitive and balanced in terms of matching.

  • Ex: if you search in a team of 3 sometimes in H3 it would ultimately turn the match into a 3v3 instead of matching a team of 3 and a random vs a full team of 4. (The point I’m making with this is it would try its hardest to match you appropriately.)

I have even thought of a solution to people creating new accounts and wanting to get multiple 50 accs (which would happen anyway but this is a nice addition I feel) Also this could be a solution to players who hit level 50 and stop playing the playlist because they don’t want to lose it.

What if when you hit level 50 you had the option to prestige? What I mean by prestige is simply this…

  • If you do not prestige and play on your 50 you will still have the risk to lose your 50 in that playlist. You will still gain exp and you can still stack wins on it to prevent de-ranking but there will still be that chance that if you lose too many games that you could lose the 50.

  • If you decide to prestige your level 50 in that playlist you will still be a level 50 on your service tag in game but in that playlist you will now be a level 1 searching 50 high. This is to ensure that the player experience for lower levels is not ruined. This will only make the second time you achieve level 50 in that playlist slightly more difficult because you will be level 1 searching 50 high through it all.

An example of how I picture this working ranking-wise to show how many times you’ve chosen to prestige would be this…

-Ex. You’ve just hit 50 for the first time in a ranked playlist, you decide to prestige. You are now level 1 General grade 1 in that playlist.
Let’s say you hit 50 in the playlist again and you are now a level 50 General grade 1 and then you decide to prestige again… Now you are level 1 General grade 2

Ultimately you can prestige 5 times with Level 50 5-star General being the highest possible skill to achieve.

This is just my opinion and I thought I’d share it with 343 and the community for the possibility of this being something they could maybe consider for future halo games.

For the record Halo 5 ranking system is not bad but in my opinion it can take itself way too seriously and can be unenjoyable for casuals and semi-casuals who are really really good but can’t play all day just to be reset next month.

The H5 ranking system is great if you want to be a pro player but not everyone in halos community wants that which is why I present my ranking system idea.

If I made tons of spelling/ grammar errors I apologize. I was typing this rather fast… Anyways I’d love to know what you think!

Or they can have a -100 to +100 system. Everyone starts at 0. Negatives are below average players and positives are above average players. 0 would be considered average.

I liked the ranking system from reach when they had the seasons and it was more skill based than w/l

This isn’t bad. I like the idea, but I’m not sure the prestige thing is necessary. Obv no one wants to lose a high rank, but like in H3 it told people what your highest all time was. So even if you lost it people knew you were a 50. And adding dimensions to that as in prestiging, I feel would just take away from the accomplishment of it. Being that a 50 was so difficult to get.
