I had an idea for a sequel to ODST. If you weren’t a fan of the first game hear me out. Don’t get me wrong I liked the first game but it could have been so much more.
One problem I had with it was the main character “Rookie”. I understand the premise of making YOU the main character but really what makes any story exciting are the characters. Why do you think the first Halo trilogy was so popular? It was because the Chief is one of the greatest characters in video game history. He was a hero you could play the role of. Reach tried it again placing YOU as the main character as Noble 6 and they did it better giving you the option to customize your Spartan making him/her your own but Noble 6 is still a nobody in the story of Halo.
Sorry, had to get that off my chest so now on to my idea.
For the sequel they should have us play as Eddie Buck in the campaign. We could follow Eddie through his career as a marine and ODST leading up to the point he becomes a Gunnery Sergeant. Why Buck and not a new face? Two words Nathan Fillion. He is a huge Halo fan and I’m sure he would love to come back for another Halo game and on top of that he’s hilarious. They could also bring back Trica Helfer for her role as ONI officer Veronica Dare and show how they met and how their relationship got to be where it was during the mission at New Mombasa.
The campaign could stretch out over the larger more important battles during the Human/Covenant war Like the battle at Harvest which Buck was there according to the fiction and I know Harvest was in Halo Wars but they only scratched the surface of the five year war there. Maybe even a battle on Reach (Buck was there to) with ODST’s against the Covenant or battles you read about in the books and other fiction. Then it could end with them getting their orders to board the Profit of Regrets ship at Earth which would make this a prequel to the first game.
The game should have a different feeling to it then Halo games from the past. It needs to have a gritty realistic feel to it. What I mean by that is if you look at all the previous Halo games there are so many shiny vehicles and armor that it looks like new cars right off the assembly line, which is fine for most sci-fi games but I would like to see ODST 2 have a more worn and used feeling to it hence gritty realism. Brutes shouldn’t have clean polished armor, they should be dirty and bloody, after all they have been known to eat humans and other species from the Covenant.
No game is worth much without a good multiplayer. ODST 2 could have a similar multiplayer to Reach with the ranking and the armory but of course you would purchase different items for your ODST armor like the different helmets, shoulders, and chest pieces that Dutch, Romeo, and Mickey wore, even throw in Dare’s ONI Recon armor. I can’t think of any improvements to Firefight that they hadn’t already made with it in Reach compared to its first run in ODST.
So there you have it if you like what you’ve read here let me know, if not then tell me what you would change. I welcome all your comments criticisms and other feedback and then hopefully 343 Industries could put this together and add one more awesome game to the Halo universe.
If you want a better example of what I mean be gritty realism, then you should watch the live action trailer for ODST We are ODST. It is exactly what I would like to see in the next game. Immediately after exiting your drop pod you are in the middle of a battle with a Brute or Elite in your face and bullets and bodies everywhere.
I felt that the characters from the game were nothing like the tough-as-nails soldiers portrayed in the trailer. Micky, Romeo, and Dutch just weren’t hardcore enough and didn’t really feel like they fit the profile of an ODST, for me anyways.
Maybe some game called “ODST legends”.
It could be a campaign split into 3 segments, 5-7ish levels each.
1:Harvest: enemies; Insurrection, rebel marines.
2.Sigma Octanus IV: enemies; covenant, Insurrection.
3.The year 2553: enemies; Up to you.
You could focus on 3 ODST squads and include some new AND old characters, maybe a spartan here and there. It could tackle the halo story in a different perspective, instead of covies, covies, covies. It could all start in some ONI room and be based with flashbacks.
also include something new to halo, lie ODST did with firefight.
I personally think it would be a great successor to H3ODST.
Im confused
I thought odst was a prequel to halo 3
so wouldnt that make halo 3 the sequel?
and halo 4 is the sequel to that so you cant be asking for a sequel when ones already being made.
also the game left on a high note that needed no sequel.
all was answered
we knew what was next
if we added a sequel it would just not make sense
Lol. What an absolute laughable statement. Did you even play Reach?
As for the Rookie, out of all the playable Halo characters, he’s my favorite by far followed by the Arbiter. An ODST sequel would be awesome.

You obviously don’t understand what he’s trying to say. Halo 3 is a sequel to Halo 2. Not ODST. ODST is a loose prequel to H3. What he’s saying about a sequel is another game about ODSTs instead of the Chief.
I’m all in for an ODST sequel.
Think about it, it could be a spin off “series” thats set in the Halo universe but which could, and should, play different than the main series. Even more different than ODST was from H1-H3.
If there will be an ODST sequel I’d hope it will:
Be more gritty, kind of the ODST/Reach vibe but add more of the grit from the Halo live action trailers to it.
Make ODST’s notably smaller than Spartans. Which would mean Elites are bigger than you, Brutes tower over you, and that’s not even starting about how Hunters are compared to normal humans. This would increase your sense of being weaker.
Add more tactic, the VISR map can easily be used to set waypoints for teammates for instance.
Add some very basic squad commands (go to X, fall back, attack Y, take cover) under the D-pad.
Remove even more Spartan-esque features. No boarding, no walking around with Turrets, no boarding, no Equipment/AA’s.
Include less straight forward levels. New Mombasa hubworld was epic, the other levels were too much of a straight forward shooting gallery. Include more elements from the “open world” design in each level.
No more switching between characters.
More ODST specific weapons like the Silenced SMG and Silenced Pistol. Maybe include the MA5K Carbine with a scope, which falls in between the Silenced SMG and the BR.
Lastly: I hope it will have 2 storylines.
1 focussing on the original ODST team led by Buck, during the invasion of New Alexandria. Focussing more on the tactical part, playing as Buck. We never really see the invasion of NA in full glory. This game could do that. Think about Exodus, but on a larger scale. Semi-open worlded NA, with civilians walking around (maybe random pop up missions every once in while where you need to escort Civilians to transport?), the starting invasion, UNSC standing no chance. Ending some time soon after the New Alexandria level from Reach where you’re being escorted before making one final push off the planet.
2: Telling the story of Rookie and how his old squad gets slaughtered one by one, leading to him getting PTSD and going mute. More focused on “classic” action and less on tactics. Make this quite raw and gritty.
This would tie both storylines together towards the original ODST. Give more insight in the fall of New Alexandria, and in Rookies past. Doubt it will happen, but it would make me very glad.

YES! I like that idea. Several levels on each world and at the beginning of each world you have another drop pod sequence. AWESOME!

Yes I have, and for the story of Reach he served his purpose, but that was it. He’s is nowhere near the same league as Master Chief is as far as heroes go.
I think you’ll find that Noble six played just as big a part as MC, he just didn’t get as much exposure because he wasn’t one of the mythical Spartans of old, but he did topple many militant rebels all by himself, he killed many a covenant and changed the tide of several conflicts (see: exodus).
the problem with the rookie is not that they tried to make you the character (hint: they tried the exact same thing with MC) they just did it in a different way, they tried to make him a completely blank canvas that the players could imprint on but he was so blank that there was no foundation, MC had that foundation )see: every awesome thing he ever said) this allowed the player to take the already awesome Base that was MC and build their own awesome character (mostly in their mind). A;though i think they did it a lot better with Noble 6, they gave you a clean, but awesome, canvas and let you go wild, when six speaks he does so with an awesome demeanor that almost all players could associate with yet he doesn’t necessarily establish himself.
also, Buck isn’t really main character material, he’s built so obviously as a side character that to make him the main character would completely sever the player from the actions.
I like the whole We Are ODST concept, and I think a game that brought you through the rigorous training that ODST’s had to go through would be awesome. Not to mention, a drop like the one in that trailer would be absolutely incredible.
The best way I can say this is to compare it to a game like CoD where you storm a beach or something of that nature. I don’t like CoD games, but I did like what they did with some of their Campaign missions. In a newer ODST game, they could make us storm the battlefield with bullets flying past us, but not hitting us. Maybe once in a while one does, but most of them miss because of thick smoke and/or fog. Things burning on the ground would add to the scenery, and Banshees flying overhead would really do an good job putting the player in the heat of the battle. It would truly feel like a war, and that’s what I’d want from an ODST game.

I agree. At the beginning of Halo: Reach, you pretty much are told that Noble Six is essentially the runner-up to the Master Chief as far as how much they’ve done in battle. Noble Six has a serious resume, especially after the fall.

You meen Buck when he was a rookie, that is me vision of ODST 2, Reach ODST. Buck when he was the age rookie was in 3 ODST, with his own caption and squade mates that are more experienced then him. In the trailer we are ODSTs, you saw buck fight on Reach, so Reach ODST is a suitible name.
And in the begining they get a new girl recrute, younger then buck and imbarasingly more skilled, Veronica Dare.

But Buck served at Harvest before Reach so I’d like the story to start there instead of the game being an expansion of Halo: Reach, that way ODST 2 would feel more like it’s own game unlike Halo 3: ODST which felt like an expansion of Halo 2 and 3.
Veronica Dare was a ONI spook when Buck met her so I’m not sure she would’ve been a recruit at that time but they should defiantly have them both meet under some circumstances in the game.

My friend, Reach took place a few months before ODST…Like, 2-3 months or so. So Buck was far from a rookie back then. He even lead the same squad as he did in ODST. I’m all in for a “Reach-ODST” however, if you read my previous post a bit above.

I’m not sure Mickey, Dutch, and Romeo were with Buck on Reach. I got the feeling they hadn’t worked together that long when Dare asked if they were all replacements, I could be wrong though. Also in Reach Buck was a member of the 11th ODST and dropping into New Mombasa they were members of the 105th ODST, two different squads. I do agree with you though, Buck was definitely not a rook at Reach. I liked a lot of the ideas you had in your earlier post and this sequel would be more of a prequel to Halo 3: ODST.
odst is not viewed as real halo so if they wanted to try the CoD or battlefield 1st person shooters ODST would be the place, not to say that i dont like halo as is

That’s exactly what i was thinking. perfect idea. I had this sort of thing on like Sigma.Oct.IV where you drop from the pod/pelican (depends), and rush out with a silenced M7 careless/MA5C and just charge into Cote d’Azur (check the fall of reach Novel, i may be wrong in spelling)
That is sort of a good idea, but I think mine brings a little more to the table. The game begins minutes after the original ODST. Buck is in a mexican standoff with Romeo for some unexplained reason. Mickey, Dare and the Rookie are all dead and Dutch is unconscious. Before anything else can go wrong, that weird purple alien squid thing they made friends with kills Romeo by driving his tentacles it Romeo’s eye sockets. Buck and Dutch then successful deliver the squid to Johnson and are sent on a special detail to find and recover a clone a Abraham Lincoln in a secret facility that was compromised by the covenant during the alien invasion. Buck and Dutch are joined by a group of colorful new replacements consisting of Cobra Fist Jackson an afro wearing, sword wielding, roller skating riding rapper, Jack Danger a professional adventurer and treasure hunter, Odysseus a four hundred pound mentality limited Chinese man kicked out sumo wrestling for unnecessary roughness, and the Scottish born Mad Dog Mcspanky, the last surviving member of a badass spartan team ,massacred by robot death scorpions on a distant planet. Together they must battle their way around the world in search of the oni cloning facility and true friendship. Alone with your standard array of Covenant adversaries comes hostile tribal people, robot death squirrels, traitorous USNC forces, fat people wielding chainsaws, zombies, ninjas, and cannibalistic clowns. New weapons such as shark firing bazookas and chainsaw firing crossbows will also be available along with in game weapon and vehicle customization. Halo will now longer be as repetitive, unoriginal, anti-climatic, disappointing, criminally short, samey, and lacking of new innovation because the developers of this game wouldn’t be lazy -Yoinks!- with fetal alcohol syndrome who feel the campaign should just be tacked on after the multi player is finished. That being said this game would have multi-player it would just be totally different in a few respects, such as game types and their would be no profanity filter because the people playing the game are suppose to be 17 anyway. Basically it wouldn’t suck like ODST and the campaign to Halo 3 which expected you to turn around and go back the way you came all the time, a crime that should be punishable with up to seventy years of imprisonment or death, I like death.
