I hope (and I don’t think that this is unrealistic) that Halo 4 will be released with a robust multiplayer component
similar to Halo 3 (not like reach, reach got old way too fast).
Halo 5 will have Halo 4 multiplayer with a title update and new maps (almost like Halo: CEA is doing) and have a long, 30-hour campaign.
Then we will have some game in between this as a minor release. (like ODST)
Then Halo 6 with a new campaign and multiplayer.
The reason for this logic is I DON’T WANT A NEW HALO MULTIPLAYER EVERY YEAR.
I want the game to last like Halo 3 did (in my eyes still does). I don’t want a new rehashed multiplayer every year. Halo does not need to earn the reputation of “oh its the same thing every year” just like COD.
I am happy with new campaigns but multiplayer needs to be spread out.
EDIT: Let me note that I do not WANT annualization, I believe it ruins the series but I am only basing my ideas off of what I have been told, and i’m almost positive that microsoft , sometime after the release of reach, said that halo will be annualized.
Who knows. Maybe Halo 5 and Halo 6 will be released 2-3 years after one releases.
We might get maybe a Halo 2 Anniversary or something in 2014, 2 years after Halo 4, and then a year after a Halo 2 remake, we would get Halo 5. And then in the coming years we get another mini-release, then with the final Halo to top it all off.
I just hope we don’t get new major releases every year.

Ha! A Halo game in the linear storyline every two years. That’s funny.
Why would you want them to milk Halo even more. While it hasn’t hit the utter destroying work of Activision with Call of Duty, Microsoft has pulled a lot out of Halo if you look at everything they’ve released.
But, annualiztion is a horrible business model for developing games. You get the same game with a few tweaks shoveled at us for $59.99 each year. Its not fair to us or the developers because then they can’t flex their creative muscles.
I don’t want annualization but a while back I’m almost positive that they announced that they would annualize it (as in some new thing every year be it major or minor, this was like in january or short after reach’s release)
> Yup. I heard that the new trilogy was supposed to occupy another 10 years, so perhaps the games will have all share long, healthy lifespans.

I think we’ll see Halo 5 in 2014 with the launch of a new Xbox. At this point there is no reason why there won’t be a new Xbox in late 2013 or early 2014 and with it (within 6 months of release) a new Halo.
But between that, we may see another side project (ala ODST) but if we don’t, I would be fine with that. Since 343 is a Microsoft owned company, they’ll be used heavily in marketing and allowed a lot of early access to the next generation system to work on Halo 5. Because of that, I can see them going full in on development of strictly Halo 5 after 4.

Microsoft, not 343, said it wouldn’t mind a yearly plan for Halo. 343 is planning to spread the Reclaimer Trilogy across several years. It’s been hinted a new game every 3 or 4 years is the plan (someone above me outlined it well).
