My Honest Feedback

Since I never do this type of thing, I didn’t know if I should post my feedback here, or the Halo 5 support forum. But since this forum has more traffic I went with this one.

After the playing the beta for the first 2 days I can honestly say I’m having fun with it. It does feel like Halo, although different. I still feel like I’m playing a Halo game. Red vs Blue, 4v4, weapons spawning on map, equal starts. Those last 2 already puts this game miles ahead of Halo 4 IMO.

For me, Halo 5 is hard! First hand I could immediately feel the greatly lowered aim-assist. Halo 5 is the hardest Halo game I’ve played. I have to learn to play again! Which for me brings new life to Halo. Aim is key in Halo 5. Some other players have said that they’ve seen or noticed bullet magnetism (which is notorious in Halo 4), but personally I haven’t noticed any. Maybe I’m just not paying that much of attention, but the majority of 1v1 battles I lose by not having a grenade explode in my face is because my opponent had better aim than me. Plain and simple. The new spartan abilities I’m honestly okay with also;

  • Thruster is my most used and most helpful ability. It really helps me dodge a grenade or thrust to some cover if I’m about to get double teamed (which I’ll talk more about later) or if I’m losing a BR/ DMR battle. - Sprint is okay, I could take if or leave it with the state it’s in. I like it alot better than Halo 4’s because it flows with the map and really seems a part of the game, not some tacted on addition like it was in 4 and god forbid Reach. - Ground Pound I haven’t even used because I always figure it’ll get me killed, I feel like it’s just a gimmick to get a silly kill anyways. - Clamber is cool, I like it. I have some trouble with it, but it gets me around places and out some combat if I’m losing.- Charge I also haven’t used. So, I literally have nothing to say about it other than the fact that I don’t need it what so ever.- And Slide, well. I don’t use that either. So, not much to say.Hm, maybe give me some more time with the spartan abilities and I can give more feedback on the ones I haven’t used.

There are some issues I have, some things I absolutely think needs changed, some nit picks, some annoyances.

I personally want changed is the Kill cam. I feel like I’m beating a dead horse with this one but I’ve never liked it in any game. Not Call of Duty, no where. I’ve just never found it useful, I’ve never learned anything new from seeing my opponent kill me from his point of view. And kill cam barely works in Halo 5 anyways, which I understand it’s a beta, but what the hell is the point of having a kill cam if it doesn’t work. I’m not asking to take it out but PLEASE, PLEASE give me the option to turn it off in the settings, I don’t see the point of having kill cam mandatory, LET US TURN IT OFF!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN 343!!! And for the life of me can we get rid of this -Yoink- death music. It’s… -Yoink-. That’s all I can say. Can we also PLEASE go back to the classic countdown to respawn with the iconic beeps. It works better, it sounds better, and I can confidently say the community likes that better. The little death music que really annoys me to no end.

And here I bring up a pretty talked about subject. Time to kill, or TTK. TTK has been greatly increased with the AR and SMG.

  • AR I’m on the fence with. I like how the AR isn’t just a throw away weapon anymore. You can actually hold your own with an AR. But there have been times when on Truth I’m at Blue Team spawn and I just completely mow an opponent down and they were top mid shooting me with a precision weapon. Maybe they had bad aim, maybe my strafes were on point and they couldn’t keep up. But I just feel like I shouldn’t be able to do that. Maybe I’m just not used to it yet. And I remember hearing a developer talking about ADS where he said “If you feel the need to aim down the sight every encounter, then we’ve broken the game.” Well, with the AR, I definitely feel the need to aim down the new ADS because I’ll get destroyed by someone who is! I’ve heard people say that slowing the rate of fire with the AR could balance it out and I’m interested with this idea.- SMG needs to be toned down. If I have a precision weapon and a player rushes me with an SMG I’m pretty much dead. I have been able to turn it around by a well placed grenade but god -Yoink!- it’s only luck. Even if I see the player coming I don’t even have time to put 4 shots in his face because the TTK on the SMG is so quick. IMO I definitely think SMG needs some tweaking.That brings me to another problem that I have. If you get double teamed; you’re pretty much boned. If 2 players are shooting you with AR’s. You die almost instantly. You CAN turn it around and still wreck 2 players that jump you. But the chance to do that is greatly reduced IMO. If I see 2 or more red dots on my radar I say “Oh -Yoink-.” and I get the hell outta there, which is the complete opposite of how I’ve played Halo for so many years. Maybe I’m just not skilled enough at Halo 5 yet.

  • Truth does seem too dark. I have completely over-looked blue players.- The sniper is clunky zooming in. And the time to scope in after switching weapons should be increased. It doesn’t feel smooth like it does in past games.- Ranks should obviously look different depending on what tier you’re on. Like Gold I, Gold II, and Gold III should all have different (but similar) symbols so tell what tier of Gold that player is on. Makes no sense why the ranks should look the same on all Tiers. But it’s beta, so I can deal for now. I’ll wrap up my first feedback post here, it’s longer than I expected. Hopefully this gets some attention and can possibly add to the overall feedback 343 gets from this beta. I’ve loved Halo ever since the beginning and I want Halo 5 to thrive. I’ve been have a fun with the beta, and already like the multiplayer 10x better than Reach’s or 4’s. I’m not the best writer and I never give feedback on games like this, but I love Halo so I thought I’d do my part and voice my concerns.

I would like to disagree on your points concerning ADS and the SMG.

I think that most people are very comfortable with ADS and rightfully should feel like they need to aim down it, almost every modern shooter does it, and it’s also the proper way to handle a weapon. For instance I am a hunter, I know the right way to handle my weapon is to aim down the sites.

The SMG should definitely be a close quarters powerhouse, otherwise it would be rendered redundant by the AR and obsolete/useless by every other weapon. Luckily it can easily be countered at range since it is a close quarters type weapon.
