First things first, I want to say that I had an absolute blast playing this game. I played everything that was available in these last two flights, I played tons of solo PvE , PvP, partied up and went solo. I was one off completing the battle pass- man, I loved it. I was worried about Halo, but I think this is the best direction it has taken since 343i took hold of it. I’m still not sure on the purchase, but I think I’m leaning towards buying the game and the special edition console that will be released.
That being said, I want to give my honest feedback. I’ve played and own every single FPS Halo game and like much, fell in love with CE as kid, and it has been a part of my life forever, like the kid who used to carry CE in a USB and passed it around the computer lab, or class? Ah, good times haha. Just wanted to give a small idea of what Halo is to me.
I think the sound quality is great, very crisp and real sounds. I never really cared for the idea that in regards to the human weapons at least, that their distinct sounds were part of the Halo feel. After playing the flight I did sort of miss the unique sounds the BR has had in the past. I definitely think the best sounding BR was in Halo 5, and the best sounding AR has to be CE, and 4. The guns sound very realistic, and sometimes that just kind of makes them all sound the same. It’s nothing major though, and I wouldn’t let that influence the decision of buying the game or not because they still sound great. I’m definitely going to the miss the traditional sound of the Warthog, though. it was a weird blend of loud transmission or whirring sounds, and v8 and it was awesome. 4’s hog sounded the best to me. The quality in the sound for Infinite’s is great, and judging by how easy it was to flip and roll Infinite’s hog, I see how fitting it is for it. I wish we had the classic sound, but this works too. I don’t have much to say about the sound other than GG! haha. Oh, and the music is amazing. True Halo vibes, just modern. the in game music is fitting and isn’t overbearing either.
The aiming was clunky, and after tuning it to ones’ liking it was better, but it still needs improvement. This isn’t so much an Infinite thing as opposed to just a Halo thing. I’ve played other major FPS games, and when I come back to 3 or 5, I have to readjust to the clunk. It’d be nice for this to get some tweaks for release. Something about the reticles felt a bit off to me too. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I didn’t like the BR’s reticle for example. These are all probably things that they know now, but I had the hardest time aiming on this game. I went back and played 3 and 5 and didn’t struggle in the slightest. I’d say it’d have to be the aim assist. I’d think there needs to be a bit more on controller, I felt like I was useless at range with most weapons, save for the BR and when in the right range, the Commando.
As for a bit more on the multiplayer side of things, I’m not a big fan of the fact that 1.4x weapons do not get hit with descope when shot at. I don’t like that glint is put on precision rifles when scoped. I think these are some of the reasons why much of Infinite was an AR meta. it to me felt like it put weapons like the BR into a very specific set of guidelines as to when it is good to use it, but they aren’t even good enough to have such restrictions put on them. Certainly too noob friendly if I’d have to call it anything. I didn’t expect to like the grappleshot, but it was actually very fun. I’m gonna be honest though, I’m still having a hard time seeing it make sense in Halo. I like it, but I’d almost be happy if it was to be removed. The plasma pistol is useless if it can’t emp. only redeeming quality is the shield pop, but that’s been nerfed. 5 had it to where it broke shields in 3 shots, bring that back.
I don’t mind sprint so much, I’d rather not have it but if it was going to be sprint or thruster as a pickup, it just makes more sense for it to be the thruster. There was a gametype in 5 where it was no sprint, but thruster slayer. It had a faster movement speed, still had clamber, no stabilizer, and if you told me that’s what Halo Infinite was gonna be, I’d have liked it more than what we have now.
oh, Almost forgot to mention, the motion sensor is just too much. IMO it’s overly designed, and I liked it better transparent. Halo 5 or 2a had a real nice motion sensor. we should definitely go back to that.
As expected, I’d have to bring up the outlines. UGH, man. Easily the worst thing about this game. if there’s anyone thing that is keeping me back from buying the game (yes I know MP will be free, I’m talking about Campaign, as paying for that is supporting the game to me.) it’s this. There are not only better ways of implementing a distinction between friend or foe, but they block out the one thing that they were brought in for. To me at least, anything short of point blank or a dead body had the outlines completely ruining what the enemy looked like. They were just a red blob to shoot. It was to the point that in stressful or just being lazy situations, I’d just look for red lines that stick out of the map. not fun at all. When the enemy gets shot they turn to a red mass, and idk, that wasn’t doing it for me. All I could think about was “what the heck am I shooting at?” At long distance, they also give it up your location as everyone just starts looking for red shapes in the trees.
I have no problems with wanting to show off everyone’s skins, in fact I like that. This idea of outlines though, just doesn’t work. I hate mentioning it but, MW2019 had a good way of dealing with this situation. It wasn’t perfect, but I’d take it over this. What they did was make two factions, and people played on either one. Another way was placing a blue dot above your friends. I’m surprised this wasn’t done for Infinite. In 3 we had almost obnoxious 3 letter tag is above friendly players, and that worked out well. The way you could tell an enemy apart in MW was because they had no tag above their head, and were a different style. They also had a red nameplate appear for a certain range above their head. i don’t like the idea of having friendly outlines appear through the map. it just adds to much moving things and clutters the screen.
Another nice touch would be also having some weapons just spawn on the map like the old times. I like the weapon thing on the wall, but it being on a rock is just a bit weird sometimes lol.
Also, Idk if it is what happens when things become hd, or if it’s the color choice, but the kill feed is hard to see, the gametype info at the bottom of the screen is too hard to see, and I don’t like the medals in the middle of the screen. Honestly Halo 5 did this the best and I’d love to see that system come back. Where were the perfection medals? and I loved how 5 would put a little star on the feed when you did a perfect, that was a nice touch.
also…
WHERE THE H E C K IS JEFF STEITZER IN BTB???
how could you do this lmao. we’re only going to hate the replacement
I forgot where saw this but they made an excellent point. y’all claim to want to give the classic experience, but remove Jeff, and remove the EMP from the PP. Halo is; AR, rings, Arby, Chief, and SLAAAAAYYYYYEEERRRR lol.
well, that was just a bit of my take on Infinite. don’t have too much time to type this, and I don’t expect anyone to read it, I just wanted my opinion to be on record with 343i.
