Hello.
I will skip the intro, because it isn’t very important, and simply say that I am a long time Halo fan, and that I am a huge 343 supporter. The following is my ‘wish-list’ for Halo 4, though I would imagine at this point in Halo 4’s creation, it would be too late to change anything (a man can dream, can’t he?).
(I will attempt to make this as short and to-the-point as possible.)
I liked CE(A), 2, 3, ODST, and hell, I even liked Wars, but it stops there. Reach is not among the Halo games I enjoyed. I know, I know, another person complaining about Reach, you don’t HAVE to read this post, you know.
Halo: Reach had the potential to be a good game. I enjoyed the Beta a lot, but once the game came out, things got pretty old, pretty fast.
Here’s why: armour abilities, bloom, maps, and ranking system (along with a few other things, but not as infectious as those previously mentioned).
Halo 3 was, and still is, my favorite game EVER created (though I no longer play it).
Halo 3 had it all, in my opinion. Great maps, great weapons, great gameplay, etc. (Not to mention Forge and theater. How revolutionary for console gaming!)
Here’s what I want for Halo 4:
-
Halo 3, but with Sprint
-
Good networking system, UNLIKE Halo 3’s (host, etc.)
-
New and old weapons, new and old maps (guardian, the pit, etc.)
-
Ranking system that promotes skill as opposed to play-time (ranked and social playlists, like H3)
-
If you are going to put armour abilities into the game (PLEASE. DON’T.) but if you are going to no matter what the fans say (SERIOUSLY. DON’T DO THIS.) then please, PLEASE put them on the maps, not as load-outs. Eliminate load-outs, and just have universal sprint for all players, then on top of the sprint, the players can then pick up armour abilities that have been placed around the map (like weapon spawns) that de-spawn on death

I miss watching films with others

The maps, man. The -Yoink- maps. The Pit was one of my favourites, hell, every Halo 3 map was one of my favourites. The reason I liked The Pit though, was because it gave the gameplay purpose. Pick up BR, rush camo, rush rockets. Everyone had a job. Rush sniper/overshield. Watch out for sword room. Noobs be campin’ again. Grenade that little hole (you know which hole I’m talking about, don’t lie). That = fun, in my opinion.

No more Forge world maps. I mean, still put in a “Forge World” esque map for Forging, but don’t then make maps within it for multiplayer. I know a lot of people like them, and a lot of people hate them. I personally hate them. They are hard to look at, and the gameplay makes me want to vomit in a cat’s -Yoink!- then shoot myself in the face. Though I hate the maps in Reach, like, the actual maps, like, from the campaign or whatever, I will still pick any of them over a Forge world map any day of the week.

I miss how the weapons actually required SKILL. Remember back in the day, 2007, when Halo 3 came out? Remember how there were people who could snipe an apple off a guy’s cod-piece from across the map? Yeah, that guy was awesome. In Halo 3, that guy had a job. When the match started, he was on his way to the sniper spawn and no one would deny it. He was the best with the sniper, so he used the sniper. In Reach, I feel like everyone’s just running around with their beanie caps on pretending to know what the -Yoink- they’re doing, camping sniper spawn because “I’MA THEYBEST AT SNIPER!!” If those 'tards stepped into a match on The Pit, back in the days of Halo 3’s height, I would love to see them rush sniper, and then try to take on the enemy sniper on top of sniper-tower.
Popcorn, anyone? -sits back and watches-
This kind of brings me to my next point…
- I know this is impossible to actually create within a game, so don’t take this as part of the “wish-list”, but merely an off-topic rant, but I really, REALLY miss the level of intelligence players had in past Halo games. I don’t know why, I doubt anyone can explain it, but personally, I feel as though the level of “smart” teammates you find in Reach is about 20%. In Halo 3, it was about 90%. Maybe it’s because in Halo 3 there was an actual ranking system, an actual level of “look at my number, -Yoink-” kind of bragging rights. Maybe people were actually TRYING in Halo 3.
In Reach, very few people try. I am one of those who try, that is probably why I don’t enjoy the game.
Between the maps, the armour abilities (AKA in-game pause buttons, armour lock in particular), the bloom (which also slows down gameplay dramatically, and other things, I really, REALLY have grown to hate Halo: Reach.
But, don’t get me wrong, there’s a huge list of things I want continued from Reach to H4.
What they did right:
-
Forge world (cool, huge forge area, awesome – but just because you have a forge world in your game, doesn’t mean you -Yoink- on the rest of the maps in terms of forging – I mean, look, I played a lot of Reach (I’m a half-moon rank, I can’t remember what it’s called) but not once, NOT ONCE did I ever play on a forged map that WASN’T forge world. There’s a reason for that. I tried forging on a map other than forge world once. Ew. What the hell. Not cool, Bungie. Not cool. In Halo 3, every single map was forged on. Remember High Ground forges? Zombies on High Ground was amazing. Had to keep 'em out at all costs. I lost some good humans on that map, and it actually meant something.)
-
“Screenshots Of Me” (awesome) Important? Maybe not. But still awesome.
-
I miss Halo 3’s file share system, where you could check people’s file shares during pre-game and post-game. In Reach, you can’t do this. I cried.
-
The armory (nicely done, though armour effects could be dropped and I wouldn’t miss a damn one of 'em).
And a few others things would be nice to see in Halo 4. Halo 4 will have a Forge mode, and a theater mode (I think this goes without saying), and hopefully they learn from 3 on those aspects, not so much from Reach.
Firefight.
I loved ODST Firefight. It was amazing. It was absolutely amazing.
Hmm. This pistol is pretty badass. What’s that over there? A…a chieftan? Hah. Just watch and learn, guys.
-proceeds to get -Yoinked!- up by chieftan-
But in Halo: Reach:
Hmm. This pistol sucks -Yoink-. What’s that over there, a chie–
-chieftan dies one shot with a fuel rod cannon-
-facepalm- This is unacceptable. Reach took one of my favourite survival modes from ANY game, EVER created, and completely -Yoink- on it. Firefight in ODST was ACTUALLY ABOUT SURVIVAL! What’s it about in Reach? Credits.
What’s anything about in Reach?
Credits.
Though I could type and type about this for, literally, ever. (lol) I will end my part-wishlist, part-rant now.
If you agree with me, I don’t know, leave a comment or whatever. This is my first post on these forums, so I don’t really know if there’s an up-vote/down-vote system, but if there is, upvote the -Yoink- out of this post, 'cause I would love to have a 343 person read it.
Peace out.
P.S. I am open to discussion. I would love to hear your opinions. Maybe even change my mind on a few things? Or bring up something I didn’t go over? Anyway. Do whatevs.
