So I bought CEA a month or so after it came out mostly for the multiplayer maps and thought to myself, “I’ll get to the campaign when I get some downtime.” Having watched the Terminals online I thought “I’ve played through the campaign hundreds of times it won’t be terribly different now.” Well my internet at school sucks to I decided to take the old girl out for a roll in the hay tonight for the first time since I bought the remake.
I nostalgiaed all over myself.
Walking through the halls of the Pillar of Autumn it was oddly familiar to me, as if it were from an old dream, but you can’t exactly remember… The doors exploded on the crew man and I was 11 years old again in 2001 playing for the first time, giddy with excitement. Reciting the characters dialogue as they said it, as if I had just put the Xbox controller down moments ago.
Staring at small things on the walls and flipping back to the old graphics in awe of how far video games have come in the past decade. Marveling at the beauty of the sky on Halo, the subtle textures and details on everything I laid my eyes on, the menace in the eyes of my enemies. How I missed that evil look that the Elites used to give me. The satisfying sound of a sniper rifle firing, or the “thwack” of the butt of my pistol smacking a grunt.
Nostalgia, nostalgia everywhere.
